Finally there is hope for this woman with little (deep husky) voice. I learned about Dr. Zalvan about 4 years ago form a throat surgeon who told me...If he operated on my vocal cords, there was an 80% chance that I would never speak again - hmmmm... Not such a bad thing for "some" in my life, but for me... I have a lot to say. This was not the first surgeon to deliver the news to me, but the third. This particular surgeon said, if it was him, he would only see Dr. Craig Zalvan. I googled him (of course) and read all I could on this man. He was a ROCK Star and worked on the vocal cords of Opera Singers. Hello... That could be me.
Sadly, four years ago my insurance company was not in network with him, three years ago the same and two years ago I cried and last year, well... I almost broke my telephone over the voice of the last insurance company who said "no way." Finally, for 2016 my new insurance company accepted Dr. Zalvan. I made my appointment in November 2015, knowing of the change and went to my appointment on January 7th.
Who walks into a new doctors office without their brand new insurance card? ME. Let's just say without the wonderful young woman who calmed my freak out, I might have not been seen. Great staff.
Dr. Zalvan walks in (after his nurse sprays my nose with numbing agent) and I am an absolute mess. First, because I have been waiting four years to see this doctor and second... I know he is about to shove a long tube through my narrow nostrils and down into my vocal cord region. Anxiety attack - breath... Dr. Zalvan promised it would not hurt "him" or my "wife" all the while laughing. Really people, I did not even feel it. Nothing. Here was a man who knew his trade.
Final outcome. He said he most certainly can fix my voice and remove those ugly polyps, without the fear of permanent damage. The only downside (remember anxiety) he prefers that I do this procedure awake. I begrudgingly agree, because after-all, he is Doctor Zalvan. He did say, the worst part...I might feel a little heat (from the laser) and smell some burning flesh. Really?!? It can't be worse than going to the Dentist (anxiety).
Here is the bottom line. I trust this Doctor so much, I am willing to be awake and endure the anxiety, the heat and the smell.
Thank you Dr. Zalvan for being who you are. Your kind and patient nature worked well for me and I trust you explicitly with my vocal cords. I will see you next end of Feb to mid March for my surgery. I might even be a little excited and feel really lucky to have him as my surgeon. read more
