Less than one star!!!!
Hello, I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with Zales and the warranty service. Upon the purchase of my wife's wedding ring set, a $2,500 plus purchase and several other purchases, from a Zales associate was specifically told that as long as I have these items inspected and cleaned every six months, the repair and replacement due to any damages under normal use would be covered. A few weeks ago, my wife and I visited the store and he had located several loose diamonds in her band. The ring was not damaged and had not been abused; the diamonds simply came loose. The diamonds were in a protected channel and no prongs were missing or broken. He sent the ring set out for repair and re-plating (as he said they needed it to match the repair area). I had received two calls this last week stating that the rings were done and ready for pick-up.
Today, my wife and I went back and he says that the bill will be $88 and some change. I point out the warranty and that fact that it was a fault of the stone-settings coming loose in a protected setting. Nothing my wife did caused damage to the ring. I also pointed out the sheet of me getting the ring inspected and cleaned (as required) and he had no answers. So he spoke to his manager.
She tells me that any repairs to the ring are billed out despite the warranty. I inquired about what good the inspection / warranty protection is for and was told that if the diamond fell out, that would be replaced- but I would have to pay for the repair. This is upsetting to my wife and I as We were told that if I was to take care of the ring and have it inspected and cleaned, under normal use, any issues would be covered. So apparently if the soldering is not good enough to secure the diamond, and this is found during an inspection, how am I to be at fault and have to pay for a product flaw?
She then billed the repair at $45 and as we were about to pay and asked to see the ring. Not really sure how the bill was nearly cut in half in the matter of a few minutes. She inspected it with a microscope and found more loose diamonds! This is after we were told that it was "good to go, ready to be picked up". She further surprises me and tells me that it was inspected before the repair was made, after the repair was made, inspected prior to shipping and then inspected again when her store received it. That is four inspections and it took her less than five minutes to find more loose stones. To further exacerbate the problems I have experienced with Zales, I bought my wife some pearl earrings only to have them come loose from the studs in less than three months. She told me that she would repair these earrings and find a new set for our replacement. She then tells us that they are "out of stock and no longer offered." How are standard pearl earrings on studs "out of stock" when I was looking at some in the cabinet.
Long story short, how is normal wear and tear and the diamonds of a protected ring coming loose any of my responsibility. As I read your warranty card supplied with my purchase, The diamond commitment does cover normal wear and the diamonds in their original setting, inspected and repaired by Zales. Your setting failed and now I have to pay to have it fixed? The loose diamonds are the ones set in the channel...not the pronged ones. How is that any of my fault? To be honest, if this does not get resolved and repaired at your cost, I will be done purchasing anything from Zales again. With over $3,000 spent in the last year and a half from your company, I will say goodbye and take my business elsewhere. I am extremely disappointed in the service, quality and the say one thing, do another actions I have experienced here. I am further frustrated with the four (4) inspections and as we are about to leave...more diamonds are found to be loose. Now, my wife with without her ring for another week. I have to ask what is next? In closure, on my diamond commitment folder, it states "Zales wants you to be as happy with your beautiful new diamond as the day you selected it." Well, I am far from happy. read more
