I really wanted to like this place, but it was disappointing. I saw their food truck at the Evergreen farmer's market and it looked good so I ordered the empanadas, chilaquiles, chips, and Mexican wedding cookies. I was so excited to try it all because I love chilaquiles and empanadas, but both were pretty bland. The "empanadas" look more like quesadillas, but a lot less flavorful and the texture was eh. The chilaquiles looked good, but the sauce was so bland and runny, it made everything soggy. The only thing I liked were the chips and Mexican wedding cookies. I would get those again if I see it at the farmers market, but will skip everything else. read more

Additionally, I have been trying to come to Zaida's for dinner but they always close earlier than scheduled. I even showed them the time which was before 6, and they still refused service. Food: I went with the Super Burrito (pork carnitas) & Taco (pork carnitas). Started off with the taco and was blown away by the fresh corn masa, cilantro, pickled onions, avocado, and a mild salsa. Packed full of flavor is an understatement. Next up was the burrito. Even though it has a bit more tortilla to investment ratio than I prefer, that corn tortilla was a treat in itself. Most legit, authentic tacos in the whole Palo Alto/Menlo Park area, on par with the best of taqueria-rich Redwood City. Corn tortillas made by hand when you order. I love my Mexican food and I really have to say that it take A LOT to impress me these days with Mexican cuisine here in the Bay Area. When there is a taco truck or Mexican restaurant or taqueria on literally every other block, you subconsciously have your bar raised pretty high. This truck was randomly around the corner from my apartment in Mountain View. I did a quick search online and saw that they specialize in Oaxacan cuisine. Like I said earlier, I know my Mexican food and know that this particular cuisine is very regional and tastes a bit different than the traditional Mexican taqueria food so I decided to visit. When I came here, the gentleman who helped me was super friendly. After I placed my order, he conversed with me on how they typically do farmer's markets and that they only recently started their food truck service. I got the breakfast taco, the mole de La casa with chicken, and the memela. The guy also gave me a complimentary mole Amarillo on the side as I was curious about the difference in the two moles. Right from the start, the thing that makes this place stand out is that they make their own corn tortillas. You can actually see the action when waiting for your food. The ingredients are also super fresh. Even though I'm a Mexican foodie, I have to be honest... I'm not the biggest fan of mole... however the mole de La casa here was so outstanding that I'm now convinced that I have just not had it at the right places. The mole Amarillo was also quite tasty... it was almost like a salsa in mole form. The breakfast taco and memela were also nice. I will say that this place is quite pricey... definitely more than I'm used to spending at a Mexican food truck. However, you can tell that the ingredients are fresh and the quality is high. I will definitely stop by this truck if they are back in my neighborhood. They also seem to offer cooking classes and I will definitely be interested at some point to learn more about this regional cuisine! read more

The mole was just ok, and the to-go container wasn't closed well (a piece of chicken got caught between the lid and container) so it leaked over my stuff. Wonderful customer service!! Honestly, the sweetest owner made our catering service a complete breeze. We were able to order and have her set up for 30 people in our courtyard. It included drinks and all of the serving ware necessary. The food was pretty good as well, nothing outstanding, but very solid Mexican food and a reasonable price for the quantity. I decided to try their food while at the farmers market in the Evergreen Village Square and I regretted it soon after. The chicken mole was quite bland. It did not have salt and was not sweet like typical Mexican mole. Also, the horchata was watered down and had zero sugar. However, what bothered me the most was their service, specifically the cashier's behavior. Right after ordering the lady gestured towards the contactless payment device and I paid without much thought. A split second after she shows me the screen and i see the 15% tip had been applied without me even choosing the tip amount and the payment had already gone through. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it so i let it slide. Then while waiting for my food, I notice that as she's taking orders from other customers she doesn't even bother to show some of them the screen! I'm almost certain sure she's adding a nice tip without their knowledge. Also, they conveniently don't accept cash and don't give receipts either. The lady simply ripped the bottom of the receipt which has the order number and hands it to the customers. Seems a bit shady to me. read more

Oh.. my.. god.. I've seen their stall at the Campbell's Farmers Market for years but never tried them until they came to my work. I just know that anytime I see them in our calendar I will plan to indulge because ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Service was awesome, too. Ronnie saw the menu but because he's rather picky and not open-minded when it comes to food he left to go to our cafeteria whilst I stood in line to uncover what I have been missing for years. The chicken burrito and chocolate brownie = winner. The chicken was juicy and I loved every component inside my burrito. The brownie was decadent, dense, and rich.. *Tram approves* After we got back to our desks (we eat at our desks after the gym) I IM'd him to tell him the burrito is bomb. Super disappointed with Zaida's, especially for the price. The food truck has been coming to our Hospital for the past few weeks, and my employees warned me not to go here, but I wanted to try them out for myself. I should have listened to them because it was one of the worse Latin foods I've had. I ordered the Chicken Mole NEGRO plate ($17), a mole NEGRO tamale ($7 for 1), and a Horchata. Here is how this went.... Chicken Mole Negro Plate - Now I have had Mole negro all my life, and what was given to me yesterday was Mole Amarillo. After taking a bite, I knew that it was wrong and walked back to the truck. I asked the cashier if my order was right. Since he didnt know he asked the girl making my food, and without looking she said "yes it is". I was given back my food and sent on my way. See the attached picture, Mole negro is black, hence "negro". Not red. On TOP of that, the chicken was shredded and unflavored. Its like they put boiled shredded chicken on a plate, and put sauce on top. The flavors did not combine well, nor was the chicken seasoned. The rice was decent, but the beans were bland as well. For $17, I expected more flavor. The only SAVING grace was the fresh tortillas, they get a extra star for that. Tamale - Tasted exactly like the plate, except wrapped in a leaf. Overpriced and under seasoned. Horchata - Watered down sugar, that's the best way to describe it. I didn't even get a hint of cinnamon. Its great that they come to the hospital to serve our hard workers, but I feel like if you are going to raise your prices, at least keep your standards in place. Based on the other reviews, the food is "good" but my team and I have not had the same experience. After speaking to other areas of the hospital, they agree as well. Today Zaida's Kitchen was at the farmer's market on Stanford's White Plaza. I had a Tlayuda with slow braised pork. The pork was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The base of the tlayuda, which is a crispy tortilla, was very difficult to navigate and eat, because of its inconvenient size and the plastic fork I received as the only utensil. Overall the meal was good, but definitely on the small side for something that cost me $17+. The cashier was super nice and friendly. They prepared the food very quickly and the pork was warm. My girlfriend and I like to go to the farmers market together and we LOVE to stop at Zaida's! My favorite thing is the Memela! The flavors and textures are amazing! The tortilla it comes on is so good that I actually salivate every time I think of it. I have ordered it with the eggs and chorizo and with the slow braised pork. Both were excellent. The black beans and the sauces/salsas are extraordinary. I order without cheese or cilantro and they always get it right, which is a huge plus. It's a flavor and texture experience to be celebrated! My boyfriend and I were able to try some food from Zaida's Kitchen at the Campbell Farmers Market recently and everything was amazing! I particularly loved how wonderful the tortilla tasted. We got the chicken and pork taco and the quality of the ingredients were incredible. My boyfriend also had a champurrado that he describes as authentic and delicious. I really enjoyed their Cafe de Olla at the Sunnyvale Farmer's Market. They get two stars because of a shady practice. After my purchase, I was notified of a Square charge for $1 tip, that I did not approve. I happily tip often, but the person who had taken my card to charge had not shown me a screen to even make that kind of choice, or ask me if I wanted to tip. I only saw it later in an e-mail receipt. Tried this Oaxacan food truck at Cal Ave farmer's market today. The woman who took my order was younger and sweet. Both my fiancé and I ordered the gluten-free super burrito. The handmade corn tortilla and fresh flavors give this burrito a unique taste. I like that it's light unlike most Mexican food that's heavy or greasy. It wasn't too salty either. I also ordered a half dozen gluten-free Mexican wedding cookies which are great as a snack or paired with hot tea. I hope to take one of Zaida's cooking classes sometime. I was really excited to find Oaxacan food in Palo Alto, and I convinced my family to try a bunch of dishes from their stand at the Palo Alto farmer's market. Across their offerings, the tortillas are obviously handmade and consistently delicious. Every bite tastes like fresh, nixtamalized corn; the griddle crisps up the outside while the inside is soft and chewy. Unfortunately, the steak, carnitas, and chicken are all dry, and neither the marinade nor the grill impart more than insipid flavor. With better fillings, this stand has the potential to be very good, but the meat definitely doesn't do the tortillas justice. read more

I have been a huge fan of Oaxacan Kitchen from back when they had a restaurant in Palo Alto. After it closed and they switched to catering and selling at the Farmer's Market, I looked forward to the weekly purchase of a fresh, handmade tamale-choosing which one or two was always the greatest challenge. You honestly cannot go wrong. All of the ingredients are incredibly fresh, locally sourced and 100% gluten free. This year, I had the pleasure of meeting Zaida as she attends the gym that I operate. We used Oaxacan Kitchen as catering for an event and they blew everyone away. Not only did the food impress our tastebuds, but we got to see the care and time that goes into the preparation. As guests made their way up the line, they witnessed one of the cooks preparing tortillas by hand. Furthermore, the food itself is free of grease, which is often the case with tacos catering. I would highly recommend using Oaxacan Kitchen for catering if the opportunity presents itself. In addition, seek out Zaida for private cooking classes! Not only is she an amazing chef, but an all around incredible person and a delight to be around. You will not be disappointed. read more
