Spring roll and pad see ew
    Ruchi A.

Picked up Thai food for the first time and I'd go back! I got the chicken pad see ew and the fresh spring rolls. I didn't love ordering on the website so I called and by the time I arrived my food was ready! The portions were good and I felt full. I wish the pad see ew had more sauce but it did have flavor. Overall, I'm excited to try more on the menu

I hardly Yelp nowadays but a new business just opened up that I had to spread the word about. Having lost my favorite Chicagoland restaurant of 25 years last year (Siam's House), discovering Zaab Thai was like finding a culinary oasis. The family behind Siam's House, now at Zaab Thai in Elgin, continues to craft the best Thai food I've ever tasted. Despite dining in Thai restaurants across the country and even in Bangkok, Thailand recently, Zaab Thai's offerings stand out. This family-run gem sets itself apart with handcrafted dishes, no part-time cooks, and a menu featuring rare finds outside of Thailand. What makes Zaab Thai exceptional? First, everything is made from scratch. Ordering multiple items from the menu guarantees a delightful experience, each dish boasting complex flavors and textures that reflect the family's commitment to Thai cuisine. Weekends at Zaab Thai are particularly special, featuring a must-try delicacy - raw oysters topped with fried shallots and their house specialty nahm jim. This innovative touch showcases the restaurant's dedication to offering unique and delectable options while still being fully authentic. Thank you to the family of Zaab Thai and may you continue to offer the best of Thai cuisine for generations to come!

    Crab Rangoon

My wife and I stopped into Zaab Thai today for lunch. This is a cozy little place that just opened up a few weeks ago. The lunchtime rush was on and there were only 1 or 2 tables left. Right as we walked in there was a table of 5 or 6 Buddhist monks enjoying their lunch. I said to my wife, "Ooh boy, this is gonna be great!" And it certainly was. The staff is very nice, polite, and downright friendly. Heck, the chef even came out to greet us. What a wonderful smile he has! I've attached his picture. Am I right or am I right? Their menu has a lot of options and it was really difficult to choose, so we over-ordered, knowing full well that we were bringing some great Thai food home. We ordered crab rangoon and egg rolls as an appetizer, followed up with roast BBQ pork and Basil Duck as our main entrees and a sampling of their homemade ice cream which was in two flavors, durian and coconut. Everything was perfectly done, fresh and delicious. The flavor of the real crab came through in the Rangoon. The egg rolls were densely packed and crunchy. The roast BBQ pork served over rice had a great flavor and the star of the show, the basil duck blew me away! Just when I couldn't think of eating another bite, our lovely and sweet server offered us their handmade ice cream. So light and creamy, yet so flavorful, the ice cream was a perfect ending as it cleaned up our pallets beautifully. I can't wait to get back. Please, get over there and enjoy!

The heat is layered and intentional, and even the small detail of the hot pepper garden behind the restaurant adds to the sense that the kitchen genuinely cares about its craft. This spot is not much for ambience inside or outside but on the day of my visit they had brisk takeout and the dining room was packed...real quick. I'm sure a lot of folks go here for the Chinese menu items but I was there for the Lao goodies! They did not disappoint! We had the fried meat balls; a mixed app plate with chicken wings, Lao sausage, and beef jerky; lap beef; and a healthy serving of sticky rice (ok maybe we had 2 to sop up the lap beef). Flavors were on point. Medium spice had us excited and rolling at the same time as it got spicier throughout the meal for the lap...but it was so good! I can't wait to go back and try more! Service was friendly and attentive. Parking was easy since they have their own lot.

Upon sitting, we were immediately seated. Their menu has plenty of choices. I ordered the garlic chicken and egg rolls (4 to an order). My better half got the Basil Chicken. Her basil chicken was delicious and plenty on the quantity as well! The basil didn't overpower the dish but delivered a perfect amount of minty basil flavor. My garlic chicken was crispy, and maybe a little dry but the flavor was great. The garlic was great in the chicken... but fantastic in the broccoli and veggies'. The only thing I would ding them on is that the garlic chicken quantity seemed skimpy compared to hers. The egg rolls were awesome and their sweet and sour had a little no heat spice to it!!! Yum! Overall, we liked the food. I'd give hers 5 stars and mine 4. One thing I almost dinged them to 3 stars (my average), was that the small dining area froze every time the door opened. Thai Express is absolutely worth checking out!

We didn't wait too long to be seated - which was deceiving for the rest of our experience. We ordered a couple of apps, thai teas and entrees. The apps were forgettable with not a lot of flavor. The ratio of tea to cream left my friend disappointed. Overall the entrees were much better but flagging our waitstaff to order and for water refills was tiresome. There appeared to be one person taking orders and one person bussing. This was insufficient for a busy evening and we recognize that this happens but it didn't appear that this wasn't the norm based on the waitresses behavior. All in all this establishment may be better suited for a take out order when I'm visiting friends in the area vs dining in.

This time I had Mus Su Mun Curry and it was great! I wasn't familiar with the dish. It was a wonderful curry that was both a bit sweet and spicy (heat). I added shrimp and scallops to mine. The staff are very helpful with the menu. And the food is always timely. If you are going for dinner, especially on the weekend, I would make reservations. They can get quite busy and the restaurant is not that big. They do have a full bar if you do have to wait.
