Little place off the beaten track. Basic ambience, staff super nice, seemed to have a lot of locals. You do feel as though you are getting true island food instead of meals with an eye toward Americans and Europeans. Had goat stew, very good. Okay, this place is the best St Martin has to offer. It was so good we came back three times for dinner. They have odd hours but if you can work around them you should stop by for a bite. I tried their Goat Curry, Stew Conch, and Oxtail which were all fantastic. Each meal is served with Johnny Cakes which are always pleasant while visiting the island. The owner and servers are great and attentive. Parking is just past the restaurant past the lower line pole. If you are visiting St Martin then you have to come here at least once for some authentic locale fare. You will not regret it! read more

Yelp helped me find this gem today when we went looking for local food. Yvette's was on the French side of the Island so about a 30 minute drive from us at Simpson Bay. They're open for dinner 6:30-9:30 so we wanted to be there at 6:30 incase there was a wait. We arrive at 6:35 and there were already 4 of the 10 tables filled. We sat immediately and our waters were poured. (1L water for the table for $2, not optional) We ordered about 10 minutes later after all finally deciding on what to get. Myself : creole snapper with veggies Husband: Curry Chicken with rice and beans and a Presidente Daughter: brewed snapper with fries Son: grilled chicken with fries Starter: saltfish cakes and the free Johnny cakes Free plantains with your meal as well. Every.Single.Thing.Was.Amazing. We all shared to taste it all... and even my 9 year old son couldn't stop eating his delicious garlic grilled chicken. The salad dressing was like nothing I've ever had. You could taste the love they put into this place. Their momma would be so proud. Attached a menu, because I searched high and low for one and there isn't one anywhere on the web. First the directions, which are crucial. When you cross the border, keep driving straight for next 1-2 miles, as you approach an abandoned gas station on your left, turn there. Then drive forward about 800 feet and you will see it on your right. Hopefully my picture is enough for this purpose. The food was quite tasty, stew chicken was what I had. They give you a plate of small Johnny cakes (local fried dough bread). The atmosphere is pleasant with lots of colors all over the tables and walls in local patterns. The main restaurant is in a separate air conditioned room, which is a god send. Overall, it is off the beaten path but is very much worth the extra exertion. read more

Absolutely love this place. Authentic delicious island cuisine. The place is no frills in terms of decor. It's more like a family members home than a restaurant but we loved it! What an amazing, authentic restaurant! Slightly confused about getting there, we made it after joking it would be in a house that was converted into a restaurant (it was). We arrived at around 2 pm on a Friday, with no wait however several tables occupied. We ordered the conch salad as appetizer, one for each of us which was perfect serving for one person and of course the Johnny cakes. Both amazing! I ordered the pan seared snapper with salad and fries and my friend ordered the garlic (can't remember the exact name) shrimp with salad, rice and fried plantains. All the food was so so delicious, we were so excited to have found it. We also had rum punch to drink which was also fantastic. We decided to try Yvettes after stellar but limited reviews on yelp. It did not disappoint! Although it can be a little pricey(cash only), but the food is excellent. To start we had the Conch Yvette was flavorful, With a gradual in building heat that was very pleasant. The fish cakes were spicy and tasty however for appetizers I would recommend the aforementioned specialty of the house. For the main course we had the Yvettes special seafood platter and the stew conch. The Stew conch was buttery and tasty and fairly light, it was served with Plaintain's and rice and peas like most dishes. The seafood platter was fairly expensive($30) but a mixture of fish, conch and shrimp the sauce it was in it was very good and worth sucking up with rice or Johnny cakes(free) that were left over. You were told by another table but it was a favorite of the locals and I would concur! read more

We found Yvette's on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It was difficult to find but with the help of gas station customer we made it. It was dark outside so we couldn't really see the exterior. We walked into an empty room, then went through a plain green door to find a delightfully decorated, clean cafe. We were greeted immediately by the owner's charming son. The owner/ chef also greeted and welcomed us. The menu has quite a few selections in chicken,beef and seafood. We chose to forgo an appetizer. A large bottle of water was placed on our table right away and drinks were ordered. My husband ordered the whole red snapper with beans and rice on the side. I selected the StewChicken St. Maarten with a mix of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. While we waited we were serve 4 small Johnnycakes (fried dough) which were delicious. Our dinners came promptly and were beautifully presented. We were also served 6 slices of plantains. My husband was very pleased with his red snapper, but struggled a bit with the tiny fish bones. The rice and beans were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. My Stew Chicken had a wonderful flavor, very aromatic without being spicy hot. It had 4 good sized pieces of meat, mostly dark. My vegetables were obviously frozen rather than fresh as I had expected so, they were disappointing. Both dinners came with a small lovely salad with an amazing house dressing. The prices are very reasonable. The bill for the two of us was $35 plus a tip. Be aware that you must pay in cash. No credit cards are accepted. I had a week to use or lose in St Maarten so I gave it to my daughter-in-law and a friend of hers. Well after I suggested things to do and places to go they found Yvettes restaurant on the french side, in St Martin and they are raving about it.I had eaten there some years ago and remember that the food was wonderful.
