Walked in, it wasn't packed, and I appreciated that -- you could tell they were actually focused on their clients and not just rushing through back to back. They offered me something to drink while I waited and the green tea with lavender was really good!! Mark was my stylist -- he was professional, friendly, and easy to talk to. He gave me a great haircut and one of the best blowouts I've ever had. And I mean that. I have very long, thick, wavy textured hair and a blowout alone never cuts it for me. I always have to follow up with a flat iron. That's a big deal for my hair type. I left with my hair looking amazing and didn't need to touch it. Also the products made my hair smell amazing! I was charged extra for longer hair but I expected it and the price was fair. Most importantly, I felt extremely relaxed and comfortable the whole time. I always ask for super long layers in the front and super long layers in the back. No matter who I get it from, when I say that I always end up with the same thing. This time I said the exact same thing and my stylist even asked "do you want your layers in the back this long or do you want some more shape?" And I answered to just keep them the same (long). She then cut my face framing layers at least an inch shorter than I had asked and I now have layers all around my head that are definitely not "super long" like I asked. One of the layers in the back is at least 4 inches shorter than my longest length of hair which is not "long layers" at ALL. I usually would have said something but by the time I noticed it was already done and it's not like you can un-cut hair. I usually come here and it is usually great so I hate to write this!

My hair was a mess with split ends etc since it had been awhile so I sucked it up and made an appointment. I was afraid to go in but I was really relieved with the amount care they took to make sure everyone was safe. They were specific about their check ins so there weren't too many people there all at once. Everyone was masked, there was 6 ft distancing between customers and air filter machines. I felt really safe there even though I was very apprehensive at first. Moving onto the haircut- I don't think I will go to anybody else other than Mohsen after he did wonders with my hair. I am picky about my hair and had quite a few specifications and Mohsen listened and asked if everything was looking the way I wanted every step of the way. I wasn't afraid to share my thoughts and he was really attentive about what I asked for. He even taught me a few tricks on how to make my hair look perfect when I'm on my own! ! I was so happy and received many compliments from friends and family afterwards. Also the trick he taught me (I asked for wispy bangs) was a life savior as getting bangs to look good after a shower can be extremely frustrating!) I had even provided photos of my daughter's hair in advance, so there was no surprise or misunderstanding. Further, the "master" stylist was very rude and accusatory when he approached me about retroactively charging us. Mind you he was the one I showed the pictures to, as well as the one who submitted the payment slips to the young women at the front desk. Changing prices after the fact is unfair and unacceptable. It also raises serious concerns about discriminatory pricing practices. Customers deserve transparency and honesty, not hidden or after-the-fact charges. I would not recommend this salon to anyone who values professionalism, fairness, and respect.

Therefore, it's a barefoot massage that involves using bare feet to apply strokes, assisted stretching the muscles. It's freaking awesome. I'm totally weirded out by feet, but I needed this. It the room looks all BDSMish, but it's totally not. She uses drilled poles to steady herself. I was so apprehensive but excited at the same time. Mare's sweet disposition put me at ease. I really valued my experience because I didn't think about her bare feet. I was relieved and listened to the flute and waves. If you're open and want to try a different type of massage, then this is a viable option. Did I mention they take FSA/HSA, too? Check of their list if serves. I really don't know where to start, but my name is Missy and I'm originally from The Bronx , born and raised. I relocated to Charlotte 1 1/2 years ago, need I tell you it was the best thing that I did when it comes to me and my kids. Now on the other hand for my hair it has been somewhat rough. I'm a New Yorker and know what hair should look like. In the course of 1 1/2 years I have gotten my hair done 5 times twice by the Africans in braids (that was by no other choice had to work) twice by 2 different Dominican ladies (all Dominican can do hair YEAH RIGHT!) and once by and older African American lady (press and curl). Well I guess all can tell that I don't have any chemicals in my hair. At this point I would wash and brush my hair into a little ponytail because people was always telling me that I should get a perm, just because it would be easier to manage. No, No why would I need to satisfy anyone, other than myself? I had made up my mind 2 years ago to cut all my hair off and let it grow naturally and that is what I did. My 37th birthday was approaching quickly, I needed a change so I decided I was going to put a perm in my hair and go back to an African America to do my hair since that seems like the only way to get my hair done down here in Charlotte. It was by the grace of God that I found the sweetest, warmest, loving, caring, honest and faithful Dominican hair dresser (to the core). I will never forget the very first time that I walked in those doors. It was on 11/7/08, my birthday, the feeling that I got was like being with family. Nobody looked at my hair and started speaking in Spanish, nobody left me in the corner because I refused to put a perm in my hair (they never even requested that I get a perm). Ana washed my hair and was talking to me like she knew me forever; their mom is a very sweet woman, she is there every step to help her girls out. Yvelisse's husband is such a wonderful man. He supports her in every way. I was made to be comfortable as I was sitting there, they bought me things to drink, they weren't speaking spanish and when they did, they apologized to me and told me what they where talking about. What do I say about Maria? She is a heaven sent person. She took her time and did just what I wanted her to do, not what she wanted but what I wanted. Maria is not afraid of the work it takes to do all natural hair, she has the strength in her hands that people with natural hair needs at its' highest peak. She is a woman that takes pride in what she does and who she has in her salon working. My second trip was even better, it was 9:00 pm and Maria still did a fabuIous job on me and my niece who has hair down her back. You would never know that it was that late there was no short cuts. Josie thanks for the spanish lessons you gave to my niece (lol) we had a good time in the shop that night. I have found a new home (NY style) right here in Charlotte . This is rated the #1 Dominican shop in North Carolina . Ok, I posted a review of this salon back on November 19th, 2008 shortly after their grand opening. It appeared as though Yelp had deleted it, but it looks to be back up again. So here is an update a month later: I was blown away then by the service, salon atmosphere and personnel, do I still hold onto the same sentiments? My experience with Yvelisse Salon then and now has been consistent. The staff here have all proven to be professional, friendly, attentive and highly-skilled at what they do...Oh yes, and don't forget about Andres who is always there to help things run smoothly! I have given salons a "trial period" of a couple months in the past, just to see if they would continue to perform as the first day...only to be disappointed. I have yet to experience an "off" day at YS. So far I have left happy every time. In the month or so that I've been a client, I've had a trim AND color treatment (that is HUGE for me since I'm not very trusting of new stylists). I love the products they use, and I think everyone who's posted a review of this salon would agree with me on how fabulous your head feels once Josie or Ana give you a head massage (aka shampoo). I'm lulled to sleep each and every time! They put the appropriate amount of time and care into making sure that my hair looks and feels its best. I know that when I walk out that door at Yvelisse salon, I am walking out w/their reputation on my shoulders. And they are sure to make it an outstanding one! I have recommended many people to this salon. Take advantage of their current offer of a free deep conditioner with a wash from Mon to Thurs during the week. The deep conditioner is a MUST. Your hair feels fabulous afterward! Of all the people I've recommended, 8 of them have gone for various services and ALL have come back to me extremely excited about the results. Now if they could just offer some sort of a referral policy - that would be my suggestion. If you recently moved into the Charlotte area from CT, NY, or NJ like me, were accustomed to easily finding a good dominican salon, are on the hunt for a new stylist, and don't want to fly to your next appointment or take that 10 hour drive back home...then try Yvelisse salon! I loved coming here! Just a couple days ago I decided to try somewhere new for a pedicure and manicure. Yvelisse Salon is located very close to me and it's also really easy to find. As soon as I walked into the salon, I felt welcomed and a happy, warm energy coming from all of the employees. The amount of positive energy and fun they were having was contagious. The salon was playing great Spanish music and I was immediately seated to get my nails done. The wait for a walk-in was not long at all, and the nail technician asked me all the right questions to make sure I got the look I wanted. I got gel polish for my manicure and regular polish for my pedicure, and my nail technician made sure to match the colors perfectly. I got a deep red wine color! I was even greeted with a drink of my choice. While getting my pedicure, I was seated in an amazing massage chair that you had the option of controlling. I was even asked how hot I want the water which was nice, because some places just assume you want it burning hot. Not only was it relaxing, but it was enjoyable to watch the employees sing and dance to the Spanish music. Also, the owners of the salon are very open to helping out local businesses and allow them to come in and offer their goods/services to employees which I thought was so unique! While sitting down, a lady with a basket of hot empanadas came through and almost everyone got one! Some other details I noticed about the salon was that the hair stylists were very detail-oriented and passionate about their work. I didn't see a client not extremely happy while walking out of the salon. If you like diversity, quality, and a welcoming and positive atmosphere, then you will absolutely love this salon! My hair is all natural and will remain that way. I do double strand twist every two weeks, So my hair is trained for that pattern. I wanted my hair staightened in order to trim the ends and to see myself with staight hair again. All I understood was: in order to straighten tightly curled natural hair and remain natrual was with the "HOT COMB" . My friend in Jersey recommened me going to the Dominicans, b/c of her experience previously and currently. She searched the charlotte market for Dominicans hair salon and read me the reviews. She came across Yvelisses' salon and from the pics, called and asked can they straighten natural black hair and how much. Yvelisse said yes and $40. I went in and talked to Yvelisse and showed her my hair. The Process they take u through: They prep your hair with conditioners, leave in conditioners, anti frizz and anti sponge, plus some other stuff in a green bottle (smells great!). She blows out your hair in small sections using a brush, Then trims (if needed) great trimmer! Followed by the flat iron. In between being blow out and flat Ironed, Yvelisse is constantly adding shine and some other oils to your hair. I felt and looked at my hair and was amazed it looked the same way it did when i went to the dominicans when i had a relaxer. Thats all it took for me to know that I found a salon and a sylist. Overall, I recommend it to women with really thick, course, happy to be nappy, tightly curled, ethnic, black natural hair. I felt and looked like I literally had a korean made weave in my hair. Straight silk, shine and enormous body. I would never relax my hair again as long as i live. I now have a place who understands my pride and my pockets. One love read more

I am originally from New York but I have lived in Charlotte for over 10 years. I have gone to at least eight different stylist since I moved to Charlotte and by far Yvelisse salon are the best group of professionals i have encountered. I am very serious about maintaining healthy hair. I am also very particular about who does my hair and the technique they use because I know ALOT about hair. They are professional, extremely thorough, knowledgeable, very clean, quality hair products with great techniques. I have been a faithful client of Yvelisse for over five years because they take "caring for hair" to the next level- no exaggeration!! I have gone through several life transitions: losing over 100 pounds, having children and health issues all of which affect your hair. Every time life have brought my through changes Yvelisse's hair care and most importantly FOLLOWING their advice has made my hair stronger than ever!! I have recommended several friends and my mother, people with different hair types chemically treated and natural hair, lengths and hair concerns and the outcome for everyone is the same... they all sings their praises. CAUTION: Be careful with taking advice from people (Kimberly R. 11/15/2013) that had a "bad experience" because reading between the lines it sounds like lack of accountability for your own decisions, possibly a language barrier (Yvelisse travels to NY often but would never say to a client she was moving back there), and choosing not to follow common sense advice. Before actually attending Yvelisse Salon i actually came on to this website to read the reviews on it. I was a little unsure if i should go the place since some of the reviews said that they were rude and the prices were a bit pricey. I decided to go try it out anyways and let me say my experience was just amazing. My hair is very very curly and if not blow dried the right way it will become very frizzy the same day. I received good treatment for my hair which i went under the drier for. The lady that washed my hair did an amazing job i actually was able to close my eyes and feel relaxed. my hair was blowed out and then flat ironed. Every product that they used on my hair just made my hair look at feel amazing. I do recommend this salon to the max. I visit charlotte a lot through out the year and this is deff the place to go to either if you live there or if your visiting and need your hair to be done. The reason as to why i gave it 4 stars is because when i do go to the salon i have to stop at the bank before getting there to get money out because they do not accept credit or debit cards. Overall this is a great place to go to , i have always had problems trusting people with my hair but they do an amazing job that i go in with no problem , let them know what i want, and just patiently get my hair done. I return to the salon after talking on the phone with the owner/manager of the shop. She recommended I come back to fix my last experiance. She personally took me under her wings and gave my a total makeover hairdo. After, washing, rinsing and styling my hair I was amazed at what she did for me. She managed to bring back my beautiful curls from the dead. I was almost in tears because I thought the texturizer from before ruin my hair for ever. She even took me to the back where she explained the difference between relaxers, texturizer and showed me they only use product that they would personally use themselves. She apologized and gave me a curling kit filled with shampoos, conditions and lotions for my hair. Not only did she provided free hair care today, but also told me to personally call her September 12 to come get my hair done again. Overall, my experiance was completely made up 100%! The salon is sleek, warm, inviting, and your staff is wonderful. My long search for a healthy hair stylist is finally over. I'm elated that they have decided to bring their talent to Charlotte. My only hope now is that they stay here forever! I have been loyal to Yvelisse salon for about 4 years now! They have always been very health conscious about my hair and they always recommend the best products to some they are expensive but healthy hair is what they strive for! A lot of ladies don't take care of their locks and see many different stylist I recommend you pick a stylist and they are ALL very good at what they do and stick with a hair stylist at Yvelisse salon watch how healthy your hair gets! Once you visit your price is set you will always pay the same price unless you add services (but that's to be expected) I recommend Yvelisse salon to everyone who compliments my hair! First come first serve is kind of a good thing here.. Everyone knows the hair salon is busy on weekends so if you're the type that doesn't like to wait around you should definitely go during the week days! I too am a african american women and I must say that I will definilty go back to this salon! I've heard so much about Dominican salons but never went to one until now. First of all this place is beyond nice.....absolutlely loved the vibe....the decor is trendy and and Maria and Ana made me feel very welcomed. One of my big issues with the salons down here is that the stylist will only wash my hair once but I was used to 3 washes back home...well I must say that Ana washed the heck out of my hair...not only did I get 3+ washes but I got a deep conditioner....I honestly never had my hair washed so good before! Maria was equally great! I loved my hair and for the first time I left feeling like I got my hair done! it had so much bounce and was extremely straight! I have extreme new salon anxiety from some really poor past experiences. I decided to go to Yvelisse Salon in Jamaica, NY to get ready for a very important event (after recommendation from a good friend). LOVE this salon and the wonderful women who work here! Xiomara is a pro with color--I had clip-in extensions that needed to be put in for an event, blown out, curled, and pinned up to last overnight for the following day. I also needed a my color touched up to match my extensions. The result was amazing, she listened to what I was looking for and knew EXACTLY what to do. The following day my hair held up perfectly for an all day/night event. Even lasted the next few days! I can't tell you enough how beautiful it was... couldn't keep my hands off! I just moved down here a few months ago and I was in DIAR need of finding a good hair salon. A couple people kept telling me to go to the Dominicans. I was very hesitant because I've only had black people do my hair. I read the reviews about yvelisse on here and I liked what I saw and decided to try them out. I went during the week and they immediately took me back. I got a deep conditioner, my hair straightened, a trim and style for $65. I have longer hair but I thought they were a little pricey but it was DEFINITELY worth it. I haven't had a relaxer since august and when I left the salon it looked like I had just gotten one. Everyone was really nice and the woman i had did EXACTLY what asked for. This is the best cut I have had in years and I will be going back for sure. I recommend them to anyone! Thanks for the response Yvelisse! I do appreciate it. No disrespect but I am not the first to wonder about your husband's presence in the salon. I personally am old fashioned and believe that a beauty salon is a time when women can escape from family, work and reality and be pampered and men have no business in there, just like I believe women have no place in a barber shop unless they are a client! That is just my humble opinion and if you look at other websites.....people have said worse about your husband and his odd behavior and manner on the phone which I noticed you did not address! As well, if Ted Gibson, who is one of the premier hairstylist in the country and featured regularly on Oprah can tell you upfront what his starting prices are for his work....thick, long, fine, short hair etc....... I really don't know where to start...after being in Charlotte for 5 yrs and trying multiple stylist, I actually walked out feeling and looking like I'd been to the hair salon. I've never gotten as many compliments during 1 day in my entire life....my hair was absolutely gorgeous and just felt like silk. Yvelisse and Ana were wonderful...very professional!! No gossip No drama and very courteous. They offer reading material and something to drink while under the dryer. Ana washed my hair thoroughly 3 times..one of the best shampoos I've ever had. Having lived in NY & ATL, it's hard to find a good salon who could care for my hair and who were nice people to be around.As you walked in you are immediately welcomed and are asked what serviced you are having, (you can also tell them with who you would like to have it with at this point) then you are immediately sent to the wash area aka head heaven, where your scalp and hair receive the ultimate wash and massage treatment! Afterwards if the wait is not long, which it can be on BUSY days you are directed to your stylist. The staff is wonderful and feel as though they are just another family. I've NEVER WALKED OUT upset about my hair. I tell everyone I meet to come here! Service is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for! ill be retuning for as long as my pockets allow lol. read more

Prior to going to Yvelisse, I was going to another salon in Charlotte. My hair was very badly damaged due to the permanent hair color in my hair. Today, my hair is healthier than its ever been since moving from NY. Each time I go to get my hair done, I have a better experiece. The entire staff is always friendly, very professional, and are always excited about doing your hair...regardless of the type of hair you have. And not to mention they know their customers...that's what I love about this salon. You will definately be happy when you leave this salon. This is the best salon I have ever gone to in Charlotte. First I would like to say that I love this salon and Ana, Maria, and Josie. I have been wanting to try a dominican salon, but haven't found one that did good on natural and short hair. I saw this advertisement and called and spoke with Yvellise. I asked her if she can do natural and short hair and she assured me that she could. I went to her during her first week of opening up and have been going on a weekly basis ever since. I love how she straightens my hair out like it was permed. I leave there with my hair bouncy and very healthy from the washing and deep conditioning. Also, the salon is very beautiful and trendy. I recently got my hair done (9/24) as I was going to a party celebrating a milestone birthday for one of my dearest friends. I wanted my hair in a special way and decided to have some tracks put in. I must say what an AWESOME job Yvelisse did with my hair. She literally transformed my hair into something special and magical. My family and friends loved my new hair do as I received so many compliments that evening. I highly recommend Yvelisse hair salon if you want to feel and look special. i went to the salon for the first time, nervous not knowing what to expect. i tried nyc several times. first visit i was excited, second i was so disappointed. my husband went to the internet and found this salon with high ratings. he stated lets try. after work the next day we went. yvelisse was told exactly what i wanted but i could never get the look and feel i wanted. when she started i became very scared. more and more hair started hitting the floor so i closed my eyes and trusted her. i even asked if my husband was still here. when she finished i was simply AMAZED!! anybody looking for what they want i urge you to try this salon. read more

I'm very impressed with this salon! The shop was neat and clean. I went for the first time last Friday after finding out the other Dominican salon that I typically go to was closed. But I'm so glad I finally tried Yvelisse because now I think I'll be going here instead!! My stylist was Yude and I really liked her. She was sweet and quick! I was in and out of there in a little over an hour and a half. She did a Great job. My hair and scalp was the cleanest I think it's ever been. Best shampoo I've gotten. The price was also very reasonable and they had a great playlist of music! I love how my hair turned out and will definitely be back! read more

After striking out at a couple of places, I stumbled upon Lucid Hair Studio in Ballentyne. Walking in, I admit I had a moment of "this looks too fancy for a quick men's cut," and worried about the price. The cut was definitely on the pricier side compared to my usual spots, but the owner herself, Oxana Mak Folls, was available to take me as a walk-in. Then something unexpected happened - I got the best damn haircut of my life. Oxana is a true artist. She explained her process every step of the way, including why she uses only shears instead of clippers. Apparently clippers just follow the shape of your skull, and since most people don't have perfectly smooth, symmetrical heads, you end up with a haircut that varies with your head shape rather than looking even. A skilled stylist with shears can actually compensate for head shape and create a more natural, even look. Plus, clippers create jagged edges that make your hair look rougher and grow out harsher - though I'm still wrapping my head around all the technical details. Either way, it worked. We had the most engaging conversation too - the time flew by! And the scalp massage? Lived up to every bit of hype. The products she used smelled incredible, and the face massage was a fantastic touch. I'm usually not one to buy products at a salon, but the spray wax she used was so good I had to take some home (cost more than I usually spend on hair products, but whatever). Lucid Hair Studio, and Oxana specifically, is now officially my go-to spot whenever I'm on the East Coast. My new dilemma? Finding someone local in San Diego who can match her skills - good luck to me on that quest. I'm writing this three weeks after my haircut, and here's the thing: it still looks fantastic. Oxana told me it would last 5-6 weeks versus my normal 3-4 weeks, and she wasn't kidding. It actually looks better each week as it grows out. When you do the math, that's about 36% more value per cut - suddenly that higher price tag makes a lot more sense. If you're in the Charlotte area and looking for an incredible hair experience, seriously, just go. Trust me on this one - you won't regret it!

However, I was charged $95--yet I didn't receive any additional services like a trim that would justify the higher price. The lack of transparency felt dishonest. Between the excessive wait time, poor customer service, and inconsistent pricing, this experience was extremely disappointing. I felt taken advantage of, and I won't be coming back.
