Pretty good handroll place, but I'm not impressed by the rice since it didn't have much taste. I do liked the nori they used since it was crispy and had flavor. Selection of fish was good and we opted for the spicy ones which was not spicy at all. I didn't get as many fresh fish as I had hoped. Service similar to other hand roll places and served as you go but it was quite slow for lunch on a Saturday since there was only one person serving so it was noticeably longer between rolls. I tried the rock tempura shrink and it was delicious but be careful as it comes piping hot. Ambiance was much more lovely and loud since there's also regular table seats and not just the bar. They validate for if parking under the culver steps so that was nice.

Wanted to try their hand rolls but unfortunately I had my dog with me so sat at their outdoor patio and they do not serve hand rolls outside, only cut rolls and onigiris. Had their onigiris set and yellowtail sashimi, pretty decent and would go back to try their selections of hand rolls. Staff: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 (street parking so can be hard to find)

The BEST hand rolls in LA. This is the perfect spot for a date night or small 2-3 group dinner where you want good food but don't want to break the bank. I personally think it's better than kazunori and has a bigger menu / variety. Pro tip, join the yelp wait list ahead of time and check in when you get there!

Spicy albacore crispy rice w/ truffle soy sauce

Was craving sushi one night, called up a few friends, joined the yelp waitlist, and drove 20 miles just to eat here. Very similar to kazunori. I especially loved the unagi & shrimp tempura handroll. Ran into a friend who recommended the spicy albacore on crispy rice w/ truffle soy sauce which I now also recommend. Good food, good service!

Food: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Wow. What a nice decor. I came here to see what is it about their hand rolls. I had to walk around a bit to find the restaurant. It's located downstairs. I ordered three handroll set, negi toro, unagi and salmon skin. I wish 5 or 6 rolls. All the roll are tasted great and fresh. My favorite was negi toro, fatty tuna was melted in my mouth. The service was also on another level. The chef was keeping an eye on me while I was eating. He only brought out one roll at a time to keep the roll fresh. Interior decoration was modern and very upscale. Perfect for date night or just hang out with friends. I would definitely be back.

Delicious hand rolls that are worth the wait! Before driving over, I joined the Yelp waitlist, which estimated a 45 to 60 minute wait at 7pm on a Friday. Parking was easy at the Culver Steps underground parking garage, and once you walk or take the elevator up, the restaurant is just around the corner. They also validate if you park there! Inside, the space is modern with all bar seating. It's definitely a date spot with mostly couples. The only downside is that the chairs are placed close together, so you might feel like you're part of the neighboring conversation. But with how long the wait gets, I'm not sure they could remove any seating. The waitstaff was also very nice and attentive, checking in periodically and making sure I had everything I needed. I ordered the spicy four hand roll set, which came with Korean seaweed. It was a great choice because it added an extra kick and the perfect crunch. The set included tuna, albacore, salmon, and shrimp tempura. I appreciated that the fish wasn't overly minced, so you could really taste the fresh texture. The shrimp tempura was nicely crispy, and the added cucumber gave it an extra refreshing crunch. I really enjoyed my hand roll experience and can't wait to come back to try the non-spicy option with the Japanese nori and the other specialty rolls.

Quote of the day: Finger food is the best kind of food. This is by far one of my favorite hand roll spots to get a quick sushi fix!! I frequent the classic hand roll spots such as kazu-nori, sugar fish, etc and I do say Yumoni stands out with their appetizers. I absolutely adore their rock shrimp tempura. It comes so crunchy and hot. Absolutely addicting. 10/10 must order everytime I go. The rolls themselves are quite nice too. You can choose your seaweed: regular, soy papers, or spicy. I find this quite unique and I enjoy choosing different seaweeds. While I do think it's on the pricier side I find they have more options for hand-rolls such as tempura and unagi. Both which are delectable. It's the same concept as kazunori where you are sat around the kitchen and can see your handrolls being made right in front of you. Dinner and a show is always preferred ;) It does get quite busy around dinner time and there's a parking structure at the culver steps! Perfect for a quick lunch or cute date spot. Final Verdict: Always in good hands-(rolls) while I'm there!!! Hahaha

this place has definitely been added to my recommendations list. a friend spoke of how this was her favorite spot and we got to try together! we came at 7:30pm on a monday and joined the yelp waitlist beforehand!! apparently it gets packed fri-sun so just make sure to check the yelp waitlist. you could park in the garage under the culver steps and the area is just so perfect to stroll around and hang out with friends. we sat at the bar and there were hooks for bags under the chair. i ordered the four handroll set! i have an intolerance to salmon so i was able to sub it out for a tempura handroll. it was free to sub, but they mentioned that it will soon cost a bit to sub out diff handrolls. the fish was soo fresh, i'd forgotten how much i loved handrolls and sushi until this moment. the four set was perfect for me since i wasn't too starved. the service was also veryy friendly and willing to explain what could be subbed. i'll definitely be back!! i love this area

Spicy Shrimp & Snow Crab Cut Roll (available on the patio but they also make a handroll version inside)

A great addition to the Culver Steps, especially since that's not great sushi (IMO) in downtown Culver. I love that inside, you can sit at the counter and get fresh hand rolls made to order right in front of you. Everything tastes high quality, from the fish to the tempura that comes out still piping hot from the fryer. Then on the outside patio, they have an assortment of cut rolls, which are also delicious. The service is always top notch and love the decor inside too. KazuNori still reigns supreme for me in the handroll category but Yunomi is a not-too-distant second! And I like that they have options other than just handrolls so it's a place I can bring my family when they come to visit.

Yunomi offers an awesome setting at the downtown Culver City Stairs making it a great spot for an evening hop around the area on foot. We sat outside on their patio but just know the patio seating only allows cut rolls and nigiri--no hand rolls. I'm sure there's a reason for this. The sushi was good which is unfortunate because it toon nearly 45 minutes for our nigiri and cut rolls to arrive. Insane given that nothing ordered involved cooking whatsoever. We put a second order in and sadly that one also took 30ish minutes to arrive. To be fair, they were extremely busy inside but it definitely seems like they prioritize the bar seating requests over patrons on the patio. We wanna come back and try the hand rolls. Tip: the wait can be quite long so just be prepared to come early and put your name down on the list.

I visited during lunch time with a friend. It was about a 20 minute wait because this place is pretty popular during the lunch rush. They do have a digital waitlist you can join, and they send you a link where you can check your place in the virtual queue, which is a nice feature. Seeing my place in line gives me a better idea of how long I will need to wait. I ordered the three hand roll and the appetizer with the spicy albacore on crispy rice. My friend ordered the yellowtail Serrano sashimi as an appetizer. Everything was incredibly delicious! The crispy rice was not overcooked or dry. The hand rolls tasted so fresh because they are making them fresh one by one. It was fun to sit at the bar; it was a fun place to sit and chat with my friend.

Ask the Community - Yunomi Handroll

Is a gift card purchased online valid at both locations?

Yes it is. It’s valid for all 3 locations.

This place says it's disabled accessible but they weren't letting people sit outside, I only saw a bar area, does this restaurant offer seating for people with conditions that do not allow them to sit on a small stool?

At all of our locations we do have 2-4 ADA compliant seating at a lower countertop with chairs which can me removed for wheelchair access.

Is the outdoor patio dog friendly?

Yes it is. But we won’t have it open until next weekend.

I've been going to SunnyBlue since their first location opened in Santa Monica on Main Street!…read more I'm seeing people get confused between the locations and the CULVER CITY LOCATION HAS SEATING with a community table inside and several smaller tables outside. The Santa Monica one is more grab and go as it's their smaller flagship location. This business has been carried by the owner Keiko who has brought a slice of Japan outside of the designated communities of West LA's Sawtelle and DTLA's Japan Town! Here (at either location) you will find unique delicious flavors of omusubi but also called onigiri rice balls! That you won't find anywhere else! Rice balls are actually shaped into triangles and stuffed or mixed with simple ingredients like a salted plum called ume (it tastes salty, and tangy with a touch of sweetness) To more engaging offerings like the lucky cat with japanese pickles with fresh wasabi, ginger, and bonito(dried fish that is sliced paper thin) These finger foods can be enjoyed as a snack or grab a few to make a meal. The Culver City Location has a decor that immerses you in Japan. They have a small market section with alcohol such as saki, handmade dishware from Japan, cute claw machines for kids, and expanded meal offerings! Besides Keiko being absolutely amazing, the food is as well! From curry stuffed to fresh shisho leaves and pickled wasabi!!! There's lots to choose from and the best part.,,.they have always had an expansive vegan menu! Yes they are very Vegan Friendly! I love the Eggplant Chili Miso and Wasabi Tsukudani. I highly suggest checking out the Culver City location so you can sit down and enjoy a drink and the ambiance and expanded offerings. After going to this place for nearly 16 years there are rare days where things like the rice may be off due to a mistake, but I've only experienced that a total of 2 times in 16 years so it's pretty rare!

Ask anyone who's ever eaten Chinese food or Indian with me will tell you: I love rice…read more So I was excited to try this place, which makes omusubi, which is basically a hockey puck of rice stuffed with meat or fish or veggies. I had it once before, when I was Tokyo, but don't remember it. I won't soon forget this place. I tried 3 omusubi: the Sunny Blue Curry ("tender chicken and scallions simmered in wafu curry), the Miso Beef ("tender beef and caramelized onions cooked with homemade miso sauce"), and the Tokyo Tori ("chicken with sweet and sour sauce"). hard to pick a favorite; they were all really tasty. Though I kind of think the sushi-like nature of omusubi might work even better with fish, which they also offer; specifically the Kara Tuna ("albacore tuna with diced cucumbers and onions with spicy mayo sauce") and Spicy Salmon ("cured salmon with chili seasoning"). Maybe next time. As for the place itself, it was clean and neat, and while there was only one table inside, they had a nice outside area on the side. They also have a staff who were friendly and helpful. As for parking, I easily found a spot on a side street on a Wednesday around noon. There's also some metered parking on Washington. Just watch the signs. If I had a complaint -- and I don't, really -- it would be that I wish they had some coffee drinks. But that kind of wouldn't fit the vibe (and, to be honest, there were tons of coffee places on Washington on my way home). Instead, their beverages were fittingly rather Japanese. Like Ramune.
