I'm giving this 2 stars for "ambiguous".
Take Away:
One of the worst I've ever had. The meat was tough and the sauce was completely flavor free, on both the chicken chow mein and the beef chop suey. When I reheated the leftovers the next day, I had to add flavor or it would have had none at all.
My opinion (cooked too fast). When I ordered take away I asked when it would be ready, was told 'five minutes'. I confirmed and was told 'five minutes, do you want wait longer'. Well, if it means properly cooked food...YES. Even the best Chinese takes 10-15? and I expect no less so why is the person on the phone pushing 5 and an obviously undercooked meal??
[Edit: waiting longer to collect it doesn't help, it's still underseasoned, watery and inedible.]
Eat in:
Much better than take away. Only one point that bugs me: every table is seated from the kitchen outwards towards the window. So, if the restaurant has 3 table of 4 all will be seated nearest the kitchen, cramped together.
There is no reason for this, it's a big restaurant and it's perpetually mostly empty.
[Haven't eaten in since I initially posted this review, my experience with their takeaways was just too bad for me to want to make the effort.]
I'll update this review as I visit the restaurant again. So far, my impression is that the quality of the take away is significantly lower than that of the food for eat in dining; however eat in diners are very few but are all cramped into the back few tables for no reason that makes any sense.
[My revised impression is pretty much the same as my initial impression with the addition that since there is NO other chinese within walking distance (unless you fancy a trek up Sallynoggin Hill or a bus to Blackrock), these people have a captive audience and are blowing it.
[Revises Recommendation: sack the cook, forget eat in and focus on take away, and get a receptionist/sales person with a good business sense.]
Note: As a comment: I've seen a review on the web that says this place charges E55 for dinner for 2 with wine and crap service, that's nonsense. read more
