    Fish, chips, beer and arms.

Went here for a work lunch following some field work nearby in sunny Dun Laoghaire last Friday. Was recommended to go to the Shack on the East Pier by my boss but heard that there was an actual restaurant now open, so we decided to go there for an aul sit down. First of all, the "shack" in the title of the restaurant could be misleading, as this place is very stylish and comfortable. The restaurant has it's own fisherman, icecream maker and has a relationship with 8 Degrees Brewing (Cork) to make their own beer. I decided to try out all of them, so went with fish and chips (I had to get the fish and chips!), double chocolate icecream and the Fish Shack IPA. All of which I would highly recommend to anyone going to the restaurant. Excellent service also. We threw the new staff a curve ball with an awkward split bill which they handled like pros. Excellent addition to Dun Laoghaire/Sandycove. Hopefully I will find an excuse to go back soon!

One of the best places to eat seafood in Dublin. I can't help saying that their food is delicious and the portions are generous and the combo of quality and price attracts me. Their staff are so friendly , they really put a smile on your face. I had the calamari and my husband had the haddock and chips and it was mouth-watering.

Mussels and shrimp & chorizo nachos - nice mmmmm!!

A great place to go to eat really fresh fish very nicely cooked and very well presented. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful so when we went slightly off piste from the menu it wasn't a problem !! On first look the menu doesn't overly exciting but go for it.......; the mussels were lovely, the shrimp & chorizo nachos delicious, the fish of the day was beautiful & the lobster was cooked to perfection. The really good sign was on a Tuesday evening the place was constantly busy with customers coming & going and the staff looking after them all so well ! Nothing to fault at all, oh and the ice cream selection at the end freshens the palate - we'll be back :-)

The fish tacos were terrific with every part of the plate so fresh! Lovely guacamole, radicchio, and flour tortillas.

They seemed understaffed, and as a result, a little disorganized. We we standing right in front of the host stand, but it took 10 mins for them to take down our information. When they did, we watched them write down "blue coat" as their method for notifying us that our table was ready lol. Fortunately, no one else was wearing a blue coat, and we were seated after about 30 minutes. The restaurant is bright and spacious. It's a very pleasant place. The brunch menu is very reasonably priced. I split the kickstart and burger bowl with my husband. The kickstart was very basic, which was what we wanted. It had toast, bacon, poached eggs, tomatos and avocado puree. My only only qualm was that the avocado puree tasted a little stale - like it maybe wasn't made that day. I have a lot to say about the burger bowl, which was having a major identify crisis. I think it was trying to be a salad. There was a large slab of goat cheese on top of the burger, but the salad underneath it had large chunks of feta. Feta and goat don't go together. Pick one. The burger was thick and had potential. It would have been better if it wasn't well done, but we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked. I know a lot of places won't cook anything rarer than medium, but a well done burger is a travesty. The burger was served on a bed of mostly inedible greens - you know, the kind that look like artificial plants that your body would have some difficulty digesting. It was a greek salad with olives, feta, tomatoes, and onions, so you'd expect greek dressing to be an option, but it wasn't. You get either balsamic, tomato relish, or pesto. It was a strange meal, but not a bad one. When we were finished and ready to leave, it took us a while to chase down our server. They were very busy, so we understood. I'd come back for brunch, but I'm much more interested in trying their dinner tapas.

But I am afraid to say it just didnt reach my expectations. Maybe more my fault...... Ventured here today and blown away by the amazing looking doughnuts on display. I wanted them all and I wanted them now. Which one to have, so many options. Settled on a mug of the hot chocolate with the promise of malteasers strewn through and a hazelnut choc doughnut. The hot choc was sadly mediocre. More tasting of milk than chocolate, and I sadly didnt get the taste of malteaser in it at all. The doughnut was so disappointing. Tough, chewy, tasted a little on the raw side and didnt have the zing you would expect from hazelnut and choc together. Normally such a great combination. There was also a slight taste of maybe orange running through it which hadnt been mentioned and didnt add to it at all. I'm afraid to say after 2 bites (the second to confirm the findings of the first) it promptly went into the bin. Not what you want with your doughnuts. Now I appreciate that the doughnuts are not made by Hatch but brought in from another company, and maybe I will have to try another to fully make this judgement, but overall not the best experience for me

Really good and the portions are great, neither too big or small. which is nice. I guess my issue is the service.... more importantly servers. While the guy I assume is Harry, is fantabulously brilliant the other servers are..... lacking. First there is the guy today who talked about his vacation to Poland, where he drank so much vodka (which is apparently miles better than the stuff here in Ireland) he was sure it was 24 hrs straight, while I patiently waited for my menu. Now, I am proud of him. I would have died from alcohol poisoning if I drank vodka for 24 straight hrs. However, I am not really sure the doorway of your place of employment is really the place to have said conversation, because I was far less offended when he retold the story to a table full of regulars. Seriously, I was. No clue that was about, but moving on. Second there is the too cute for words little boy (in all honesty he is probably in his early 20's, I am just old) who always looks like God pooped in his cornflakes. Every time I see him I want to ask him if it is really so hard to look as if he completely hates his life. I mean even a look of total boredom would be better than the "I may have to go to my room and listen to Morrisey after this because misery loves company" look he ALWAYS has. However, since the food is good, the coffee decent and the proximity to my gaff is ideal I will continue to frequent this place and endure angsty little boys and oversharing on the drunken front.

It overlooks the peoples park and in the near distance, the sea. I went there for Christmas lunch with my family and it was a great lunch and I have absolutely zero complaints about the food quality, it was top nosh! The reason it loses a couple stars though are because the menu is very small and limited so you can't be a picky eater, luckily I eat everything but that's not the case for a lot of others. The fact that it's made from redbrick and glass also means that it's very very loud inside with everyone talking as it doesn't absorb any sound and it just bounces around the room, very hard to hear your own conversation. And my final complaint / warning is that the ginger beer they serve has a lot more ginger in it than you might expect, it's flavored naturally with powder ginger and really gives you a kick, so beware! Apart from a couple things if your looking for a decent place to eat, it really stands out over everywhere else in Dun laoghrie and the price is very moderate too!
