Bento Boss - Salmon Bento Box

Me and my mother came here after a day around Bristol; this quaint and modern little Japanese…read morerestaurant is quite tucked away if you don't know what you are looking for. Upon arrival we were greeted by the bar staff and a waiter took us to our table. The view was really nice as it overlooked the busy street of Bristol. We ordered 2 half pints of Asahi dry beer as they were out of Kirin; the waiter was the only one on the floor and it seemed understaffed but he was very nice and didn't seem too stressed. I ordered the Salmon Bento Box with the chicken Gyoza and tuna Sashimi and my mum ordered the traditional Ramen. The food was quick to come out and it was elegantly placed, the miso soup was part of my Bento Box and was traditional and tasted exceptional. it's important for the rice to be perfect as much as the protein and every element was prepared with care and tasted really good; the salmon hand roll however included the salmon being a bit squished which diminished it's structural integrity but with it being freshly prepared, it was a factor I could overlook. My mum's ramen was spiced well so that it was not overpowering and they even included chilli paste on the side in case she wanted it hotter but there was no need. Ultimately, this place was a lovely surprise and I would definitely return!

I like this place…read more If you have visited Japan & Korea etc and have been missing the atmosphere of a ramen shop, this will suit you perfectly. It does a very good deal on a 'stop the clock' idea, which means you can sit and eat for two hours, from the moment of your first order. The cost is £15.80 which can't be bad. Personally I recommend the Bulgogi, thin sliced BBQ steak. Ushikata! I have hesitated in recommending Teppan Oriental because its very appeal is that all the customers are apparently Korean, Japanese or Chinese and this adds to the atmosphere...

Dishes are often cooked at the diner's table on metal grills that are built into the center of the table where diners can enjoy doing there own grilling/bbq at the dinner table. The Chinese Hot Pot also known as Shabu Shabu in Japan, and in Singapore and Malaysia the Steamboat. Like fondue but replaced with a simmering metal pot of stock at the centre of the table where diners place their ingredients into the pot to cook. The cooked food is usually eaten with a variety of dipping sauces. Typical Hot Pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, vegetables, dumplings and seafood. Here in Teppan we have a vast choice of ingredients, dipping sauces and stock.

Slightly unexpected, but here it is: an authentic Japanese restaurant in the middle of Clifton (the…read moreonly one in Bristol that I know of, in fact). It's hidden away up a back street, but the locals seemed to have discovered it nonetheless, crowding it out for both lunch and dinner. This is serious contemporary Japanese fare, though with plenty of explanation on the menu and knives and forks set as standard. The décor is all very authentic looking and the menu extensive. If your knowledge of Japanese food is limited to sushi (as mine is) then this is a good place to find out what words like 'tempura' mean - the service is polite and amiable; they'll be happy to explain anything. All importantly the food is first rate. Lots of little morsels of flavour, with lots of sharp, interesting flavours. A lot more stimulating than getting a pub lunch. Noa is authentic without being intimidating, an asset to Clifton's restaurant scene.

The decor was very retro manga and I had fun looking through the different rooms to see what was on display. I had the kimchi sushi (genius) and the roasted aubergine - incredibly tender and yummy. If I had one quibble, it would be that these 2 tapas style dishes didn't fill me up - but then again I had a wedding the next day so not being too full was actually appropriate ;)

Firstly, the venue itself is good. Nothing striking, nothing fancy, just a decent restaurant with a nice open window at the front where you can people watch. I sat down and was handed a menu. I instantly noticed the I was the only white caucasian customer, which is generally (I find) a good sign of authenticity. The waiter came back a couple of minutes later to take my order. I wanted the Japanese Style Beef on Fried Ramen but asked if they could add some bean sprouts. I was told quite firmly 'no'. But I ordered it anyway because it came with vegetables. The dish was really tasty, if not a little too salty. But it was a soy sauce dish, so you have to expect it to be salty. I really enjoyed it! I finished and within a couple of minutes my dish had been taken and I ordered the bill. Paid. Left. All done within about 20/25 minutes. I was on a lunch break so this was perfect for me. I can't really fault Toro. There's no Wow factor to it, but it's good at what it does and i'd certainly go back.

They have half…read morepriced sushi some days, which is great, except when you show up on days that are full priced (like me). The decor is clean and spacious, service is okay. I ordered the chirashi and my friend ordered the spider roll and sushi set. The chirashi had some good bites of fish, fresh and tender, but for the most part, the bento was half crab stick and tamago (egg) for filler. For 9 pounds, it was a little light on the fish, which made me sad. The sushi set looked good, with a good amount of tempura to fill you up. The spider roll, however, was very heavy on the rice, packed so tight and not recently, so that the rice was dense and a bit chewy. If my meal were a half priced meal, I'd totally rock the place with a three star review. The portion sizes were good and the quality sufficiently okay to eat there regularly. But to get what we did on a full price night, with no additional perks or service? Sorry. Two stars.

Usually if a restaurant has good sushi, they really go to town on hiking the prices up. Then I walked past Obento one day and saw their 'half price sushi' poster in the window, and I am not one to pass up a good bargain, especially when there is sushi involved. When I got my sushi, I was so happy with it. They really put thought into the presentation of my food, eventhough I only ordered off the half price sushi range, which I really appreciated. Now the taste - fresh, light and clean. Their half price offer was only for a few months, but it seems to always be extended, which works fine for me! I have been here numerous times, and won't stop going anytime soon. They have the freshest sushi I have tasted for a long time - and I have been on the lookout for years.
