He extracted both of my bottom front teeth and installed an implant w/cantilever to replace them. Because they were front teeth, there was a need to have a bone graft (as apparently the front teeth do not have as much bone and space to have a lot to attach the implant). No one wants to go thru such a thing, but if I had to do it again, I would again use Dr. Bradley DeGroot. Details: * he provided the options available to me * he explained things very well--and I typically have lots of questions--particularly in regard to options, but also for long-term viability of choices being compared * the office staff was very friendly and efficient--felt like a nice extension of Dr. DeGroot's capabilities * executed the surgery very well...because I had to have both bottom front teeth extracted/replaced, there was a need to do a bone graft to provide a better landing zone for the implant. As is apparently typical for front teeth, there was only room for one implant, so a cantilever was used for the other one. I had sought opinion of another periodontist/implant specialist for this procedure, and they seemed to know what they were doing, but I didn't get the same level of comfort that I did when I spoke with Dr. DeGroot. The first doctor spoke more like a surgeon, but Dr. DeGroot spoke more like a person solving your problems. He explained things very well and he is VERY thorough--my dentist (who is also quite good) indicated so, too. Dr. DeGroot's exam was more thorough than the first periodontist/implant specialist I sought. Not going to mention name of first doctor, because I'm sure the other doctor is fine and not looking to taint anyone here, but I just felt more comfortable with Dr. DeGroot. * he and his team were incredibly flexible and understanding. When I shared my extreme aversion to needles (and I needed three shots to numb the area for the bone graft and implants), I asked for LOTS of numbing agent before they put the needle injections into my gums - three needle shots were coming!!! - and once the assistant put enough numbing agent, and Dr. DeGroot apparently deftly placed the needle injections, I literally didn't feel ANYthing when he gave me those three injections! Yowza, that was nice! And once the injections were done (with novocaine, I suppose), I didn't feel anything during the surgery for extraction, bone grafting, and implantation. I was quite pleased--except for having lost two of my front teeth, of course. :-) * wore retainer to cover the two missing teeth for about 4 months, while the bone graft healed...no issues, but as I was counseled by his team, it was best to remove for eating. * had no issues with after-surgery care, as I simply followed the instructions on the rinse care and what I should/shouldn't eat. * saw Dr. DeGroot for temporary crown/cantilever, which is apparently standard for front teeth, due to their more aesthetically noticeable location--this procedure went well, too...it was nowhere near as difficult as the main extraction/implantation surgery, as the "worst of it" was done at this point. * I then saw my general dentist for performing the permanent crown/cantilever. * it has been 8 months since the implant was done, and no issues. I have had the permanent crown/cantilever for 2 months, and have had no issues. All seems great, with no limitations on my lifestyle! I can floss around the implant, and I even floss around under the cantilever, as there is a natural (very small) space under it--not noticeable to others, but it inherently is not going to go immediately contiguous to the gum line. I will consider a water-pick for flossing, but thus far have had no reason to consider it. Conclusion: Overall, a very good experience, considering the not-so-pleasant need for having two front teeth extracted and replaced. I would use Dr. DeGroot again, if I had any further need for periodontal issues, and I would recommend him to anyone who had the misfortune of having to have implants done.

I have had…read moreorthodontic care in the past (braces twice) and was seeking an opinion on whether the issues that remained with my teeth were treatable and if so, if it was worth getting braces again. Dr. Bibbs was very straightforward and explained why he would not recommend further orthodontics. Many other orthos wouuld have tried to sell me on moving forward for their own gain, but Dr. Bibbs was honest and ethical. In addition, all the other members of the staff who I met (especially Roxy) were extraordinarily pleasant and accommodating. I will most definitely be recommending this office to friends and family!

Two other patients who walked in 30 minutes after I got there were waited on within 10 minutes of their arrival. After asking if they had forgotten that I was there, the receptionist said their appointments were before mine. So, I guess I should have been 45 minutes late so that I wouldn't have to wait an hour before being serviced. Silly me, NOW I know the drill. THEY NEED A NEW RECEPTIONISTS!! If I had not already paid $1,000.00 out of pocket, I would have asked them to remove the braces THAT SAME DAY so that I could go to another provider. Two (2) more things: (1) during a previous visit one the assistants removed my old bands but never replaced them with new bands. I didn't notice until eating lunch at work two days later when the brackets fell out while I was eating. As a result, I had to readjust my personal schedule to go back to have the bands replaced; (2) during the previously mentioned visit I overheard the same assistant giving very valuable tips re: maintenance and comfort to a new patient and I heard about a product that I had never been told about. (Maybe cuz I'm the wrong color) Again, the Dr, his office manager, and (oh yeah almost forgot) the Asian assistant - who prior to my last visit didn't realize I spoke English and not Xhosa ) are very pleasant ... so, let's blame their back office staff for this marginal review.

The appointments are quick and so efficient, they have you in and out in record time and are punctual when it comes to calling you once you've checked in. I never felt that I was being pushed for services and Dr. Neal was always available to answer questions and clarify treatment concerns. She surprisingly had her braces removed today after we went in a week early for our appointment due to a loose wire. They were so quick to remove, educate on retainer use and answer any follow-up questions we had, I'm honestly so glad we were recommended to see him when we did. Unfortunately I will be leaving the practice after all these years because of the women at the front desk. I had 4 visits within one month. At 2 of the visits I was told they would be billed to insurance and I would receive an invoice for anything not covered. At the other 2 visits I was told I needed to pay upfront and would get a refund for whatever insurance covered. I was getting whiplash from all this back and forth, unable to predict if I would need to pay upfront or if it would be billed to insurance. After receiving an explanation of benefits from insurance I called the office to discuss my overpayment. I was told they had not received the insurance checks yet and would put a note in my chart to call me once they were received. I never got a phone call. I ultimately followed up and was told the checks were received and I had a $900+ "credit" on my account and they could write me a refund check if I wanted. When questioned on the practice of making ONLY delta dental patients pay upfront and only at some visits the women became quite defensive and rude. All she kept saying is "this is the way the doctor wants it done". Well if that's the case why isn't it followed at every visit? Had I not followed up would a refund check have been written or would I have just had this credit sitting in my account there? This seems like double dipping, keeping the money I paid out of pocket, while also keeping the check from insurance and just having a credit sit in my account. Something just doesn't seem right about this. In today's economy when every penny counts I can't be going to an office when I don't know if I'm going to have to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars upfront and if they will actually refund me once insurance pays or if they will just keep a credit in my account. I'll be finding a practice that has followed their previous practice of billing insurance and sending an invoice for what wasn't covered. The longest it took insurance to write a check to the dentist in all of these visits was 8 business days. So the woman's explanation of "it's taking insurance too long to pay, that's why delta dental patients have to pay up front" doesn't make sense.
