In a strange but interesting turn of events, my children and I witnessed a squirrel in labor on one of the trails. A most unusual and unexpected sight I can promise you! I have to admit we got a bit more nature than we bargained for that day! Lol. My few qualms are these, it tends to be a very crowded place and the trail maps are not the clearest/ most accurate. A big improvement would be better trail maps (particularly with a "you are here" marker) and better signage throughout the trails. Overall though, it's a wonderful place for the community.

There are a few points where you have to go quite a bit in one direction to get to where you need to go.

My son is infamous for getting stuck or needing help but he was able to navigate the entire place without calling out for help once. Meanwhile my baby had a blast in the toddler area. The setup is really well thought out. I could sit in the middle and see my 3 year old in the gym and my daughter in the toddler area at the same time. I love how they designated an area for toddlers because it helps ensure the babies don't get run over by the bigger kids on a busy day. The toddler area is off to the side so it's unlikely bigger kids will run through there while playing. The man working the desk was extremely nice and attentive. Snacks and drinks are fairly priced. One of my favorite things about Pittsburgh is how they just create parks in random areas of the…read morecity! The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust debuted "The Backyard" at the Three Rivers Arts Festival. They had live music and some of the food stands that you typically see at the arts fest in this section. I was so excited when I heard they were keeping it, especially since we missed the Allegheny Overlook. They put down fake grass with lots of tables and chairs (even rocking chairs too) facing the stage. I attended the PGH Opens there last night which included extra food trucks and gift card giveaways in addition to the music and Pgh Mobile Bars. The space is comfortable and family friendly. The mobile bars offer a happy hour on weekdays with $2 off cocktails. I tried the Goodlander Strawberry Basil cocktail with vodka and it was delicious! I recommend stopping by next time you are downtown to catch a local band and have a cocktail. It's open Tues. - Sun. from 11 am - 9 pm. They also have free yoga on Saturday mornings!

There's a part of the playground for little kids and a part for bigger kids, as well as a sandbox to play in as well (there's woodchips over most of the ground). We also used the park bathrooms while there which were clean, though slightly smelly. We didn't use, but also saw tennis courts, a baseball field, a pool + splash pad, a basketball court, many swinging benches, and multiple pavilions. Overall a lovely park with a great play area for kids.
