I contacted Michelle at "Your Mannerly Mutt Inc" to train my dog. She told me private training was US$650.00 for six 90 minute sessions, paid up front. We set up first session for a Tuesday. Monday night, Michelle called and left a voicemail she had an appointment at the time she had scheduled the session and had to reschedule. I agreed to reschedule for Wednesday at 1pm.
She came 11 minutes late and presented me with a "contract" stating "Terms and Conditions" and one thing caught my eye "If owner must reschedule or cancel a lesson, it must be done by phone 24 hours prior to scheduled lesson, if not, that lesson will be forfeited, and the fee not returned". Doesn't this apply to her? She rescheduled our first session the night before. She left early and scheduled the next for next Wednesday at 1pm.
Wednesday Michelle called at 10.47am asking to reschedule for Thursday. I told her I would be at work so she said fine she would come at 1pm as planned, sounding irritated. At 1pm she had not shown. At 5 minutes after 1pm I called her and she said she was stuck in traffic. Why not call? She came 37 minutes late. She then starts yelling at my dog for not quickly "getting" what she was being taught, saying that other dogs she worked with "get" things faster, accusing my dog of having flees coz she scratched a little, and complaining that my dog had jumped and scratched her. Third session was two weeks later on Wednesday
Session 3, she starts by yelling at my dog not to scratch her and make her "bleed" like last time. Don't recall seeing any "blood"....We set off for leash training. Usually the trainer demonstrates then the owner takes over. She did not want to and just followed criticizing the whole way. We ran into my neighbor and her dog who politely asked if she could approach and Michelle yelled No you may not!! My neighbor was so shocked she just walked away. We walked for 45 minutes and when getting back to the house, my dog pulled a little on her leash and Michelle yelled this was a total waste of time. Back in the house Michelle said that the dog was too tired and "I" should not have let us walk that long. Wasn't she the one giving direction outside? She had said how far we would go but now all of a sudden, "I" had walked the dog too long and she was too tired to learn anything else. With that she left...early. Let's not forget she was to make up her being 37 minutes late the previous session. Session 4 was scheduled the next Wednesday at 1pm. Later when I apologized to my neighbor she told me she could see Michelle being critical from a distance.
Wednesday the day of Session 4, Michelle called at 11.40am and started in a rude tone "If you're planning on walking outside I'm not coming, just wanted to let you know that"...I asked her why? She said it was too hot. I asked her what she had planned for the session she answered..."I don't know it's up to you". I asked what she could teach indoors and she said she would think of something and hang up. She came late and taught the dog 2 things. After 40 minutes she said she was done. I asked her to teach one more thing. Didn't I pay for 90 minutes? She did it quickly and left...early!!!
Monday, two days before session 5, Michelle emailed saying it would be hot on Wednesday and we could not go outdoors so if that's what I wanted we'd have to reschedule. I replied saying that was fine and I was available any day, including weekends. She said she was not available until 17 days later but she would come on Wednesday if we could work inside. I said that was fine; she could teach what she had planned indoors. She replied saying I should think of what to work on. Who's the trainer here? She did the same thing the previous week. I asked her if she had a lesson plan, she scheduled the 6 sessions, she must have planned what to teach. She said she had taught everything. So I told her if she had nothing else to teach she should refund me for the remaining two sessions. Her response SHOCKED me! She went on to say that she had given me an "option of single sessions, a package of 3, or a package of 6, the more sessions purchased, the greater the discount, and since we had 4 sessions it's $450 for the 3 session package, plus $150 for the single session". This is direct from her email. I could not believe what I was reading. Michelle had only offered the 6 sessions at $650. No mention of a 3 session option or discount. I told her she was dishonest because she never offered any other options, if anything if I knew there was 3 session option instead of 6, I would have taken it instead.
With that I decided to call it quits and told her we should just forget about the remaining sessions. Oh and she said if she owes me anything its $50. I asked her to send it and have never seen it!! The supposedly hot day turned out to be a mild 77 degrees.
I found other negative reviews which I wish I had seen before hiring her. Consider yourself warned. read more
