We contacted Local Handyman for a bid on a kitchen oven replacement to build the cabinet that the…read moreoven, microwave and warming drawer would fit in. The representative came out and reveiwed the project, everything was going well. She told us how the bid would be laid out in detail with the detail of the various options listed. When we got the bid it was a one line totla bid, no detail at all and the bid was 5 to 6 times more that what we were told that the job should cost. The representative called me several times afterwards to review the bid, but her phone wasn't working correctly and I couldn't make out what she was saying. I told her this and asked her to call me back on a different phone. Each time she continued to call on the same phone that was broken and I was not able to understand what she was saying. We found someone else to do the job and it was actually less than what we were told the cost should be. No where close to the bid that we received from STL Handman that was 7 times more than what we actually paid to have the job completed.

I hired Local Handyman-St. Louis (167 Lamp and Lantern Village, #129, Chesterfield, MO 63017) to replace the wood area surrounding my front door and sidelights, paying $2,200. My request was for a full removal and replacement of the wood surrounding the door with PVC. Instead, the company performed a surface-level "capping" service, nailing thin PVC pieces directly over the existing wood. The merchant later confirmed in writing that structural framing and jambs were entirely excluded from their work, despite charging a price point that represents a full system replacement in the St. Louis market. Furthermore, the workmanship left the front door weather-stripping misaligned and initially highly difficult to lock. While a technician returned once to adjust the weather-stripping, the door remains at times physically resistant and difficult to lock and unlock. Proceed with caution if you expect comprehensive structural replacement for premium pricing from this company.
