Me, ( The Chocolate Man! ) Eating, my Delicious Dinner. (Spicy Miso Chicken.)
    Ramon M.

The food was exquisite! The Ambianae was to die for! My Server was on point. ( Duilio, G.) I did not want for anything! I was in need of a toothpick, for my Miso Spicy Chicken that was wedged in between my teeth, there were none on site. He improvised, with a drink toothpick! I was in need of a salt & pepper for my mashed potatoes. No salt pepper shaker on site He also improvise by using a,small tea plate. My dining experience was a 10 out of 10

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Yoshi's this weekend. We frequently enjoy coming to shows at Yoshi's and were looking forward to having a nice dinner and drinks, but unfortunately the experience left us feeling misled and taken advantage of. While ordering our dinner, I ordered a Remy Sidecar. I was brought a Sidecar made with Remy VSOP, which I now understand is a top-shelf option and resulted in a $45 charge for one drink. At no point was I told that the bartender was using a top-shelf cognac or that the drink would cost $45. I then ordered a second Sidecar. Again, no one explained what liquor was being used or what the price would be. When our bill came, I was shocked to see that I had been charged $90 for two drinks. As a former bartender, I would never assume that a customer ordering a mixed drink automatically wants the most expensive liquor available. I would always ask whether they wanted the standard option or a premium/top-shelf selection and make sure they understood the price difference. That basic communication is especially important when the price difference is significant. Had I known the Sidecars were $45 each, I absolutely would have made a different choice and I likely would not have ordered the second one at all. What was most disappointing was that when I spoke with one of the bartenders about the situation, I felt as though the issue was being placed on me rather than acknowledging the lack of communication. I was essentially told that nothing could be done. That response made an already frustrating situation even worse. We are living in an economy where people are carefully considering how they spend their money. A night out should be enjoyable, and customers should be given the information they need to make informed decisions about what they are purchasing. No one should be surprised by a $45 mixed drink when they simply asked for a Sidecar without being told that a premium spirit was being used. We have two children and had just spent a significant amount on back-to-school expenses. We were treating ourselves to a nice dinner and a show, and instead we left feeling like we had been charged for something we were never given the opportunity to knowingly choose. I strongly encourage Yoshi's management to review its bartender and server training and customer-service practices. Staff should be trained to clearly communicate when a premium or top-shelf product is being used, particularly when it substantially increases the price of a mixed drink. Customers should always have the opportunity to choose between standard and premium options before the drink is made. We genuinely enjoy coming to your establishment and attending shows, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Unfortunately, after this experience, I'm hesitant to return anytime soon. It's difficult to feel comfortable spending money at a place when you don't feel that pricing and options are being communicated transparently.

For July I came and saw two shows. First was Kindred & the Family Soul. This couple sings so good together live. I enjoyed watching their chemistry & their couple banter. They weee here to perform songs from their new album Grand Life, but they sang their classics as well. Everyone got into 'All My People' when the opening beat started the song. I sat at table 11. It was a good seat. I had a great view of the stage. For dinner, I did a repeat and had scallops & Risotto. Second concert in July was Avery Sunshine. Wow, does this lady have a voice. She was quite a ways from the mic & the audience could still hear her belt out them runs and notes. I'll admit, her songs were not in my rotation on my Apple Music and I confused her with Sunshine Anderson. Two totally different singers. Avery is liken to Patti LaBelle, Aretha. Yes, she has a clear powerful voice and she's an entertainer. She plays piano, her husband the guitar, and her son on the drums. Wow so much musical talent in one family. She sang some gospel and all of us were in Cherch on a Friday night. I got early priority seating for the 7:30om show. I was at table #6, a first for me. I sat with 3 other ladies one was a solo traveler like myself. Just getting up and going places. No FOMO here. I come from the 559 and the Amtrak gets me here. The crew at Yoshi's recognize me as a regular and so does the conductor. Even the hotel staff. I love Oakland or The Town as they say around here. See you some more on Yelp 2026

Yoshi's is always a joy to visit. From my entry with the staff behind the counter welcoming us all the way through to the concert. Everything was great. The atmosphere and ambiance of Yoshi's restaurant is always relaxing and welcoming. The decor is beautiful! Vanessa was our server. She managed quite a few tables very well. I love that she introduced herself, welcomed us and shared menu items. The tiger shrimp was flavorful and delicious! The Spicy Miso Chicken was not spicy to me at all. The chicken was very moist and tender. The sauce added an extra layer of flavor. Those potatoes were so good! I'm not sure what they had that made them a little green, but again, they were so good. The Beringer Cab wine was delicious! Thanks Yoshi's.

I came here on a Thursday evening for Stella Cole with a party of 6. It was a cozy place covered with tables and even a tatami area! I ordered the Spicy Miso Chicken, Snow Monkey Roll, and a Gelato trio along with getting a bite of the Kobe beef skewers + rib eye. The chicken was pretty salty and felt the sauce was unevenly distributed but it paired well with the mash potatoes. The mash potato's were very creamy and flavorful! By default, the dish itself was just chickens and mash potatoes but I did wish it had some form of veggies as well. I'll probably keep note and just order veggies additionally. The ribeye and skewered were great! Super tender and flavorful. I definitely preferred it over the chicken, haha. The snow roll was good and the tempura in it wasn't overpowering. Gelato was pretty average, didn't stand out to me. I really liked the banana gelato. The jazz club was fun and cozy! Sound was super crisp and clear. Next time I come, I'd love to actively have a dinner AND a show because we ate first before going to Stella Cole.

If there's anyone playing at Yoshi's that you want to see, stop reading this now and go purchase tickets. Try to overlook the excessive junk fees and forget about what you paid sometime before arriving. Next, reserve a table in their restaurant and show up early with your tickets in hand. This is your ticket to obtaining excellent seats. Yes, there's an easily achievable minimum restaurant tab to get you into those great seats but when the house is open you can waltz over, cocktail in hand, and take your seat. In this instance, it was a table in the second row from the stage for The Sugarhill Gang. Nobody asked me to spend any more than I already had but in the nightclub, a server happily supplied water (and another drink) when asked. Dinner tabs are closed out at the end of your meal; tabs for whatever you order during the show are closed out shortly before the end of the show (18% tip automatically added to those tabs). The dinner menu is very good and satisfying, with a wide range of sushi and other Japanese-adjacent fare. Service is especially wonderful, with the whole place operating like a well-oiled machine. Seats in the show (as mentioned in my ealier review) are front and back of a round table with another party on the other side of the table in the same arrangement. Awkward for a date and worth knowing but not in any way a deal breaker for me. On each of my visits to Yoshi's I've been impressed but now that I've tried their restaurant and reaped the concert-seating benefits that's the way I'll roll every time. Other stuff: Yoshi's partially validates covered garage parking in the attached lot.

    As delicious as they look.

Fabulous night of delicious sushi even though we were part of a very Katy party (80+) the waiting staff was attentive. We went on to the jazz club where desserts were served. It is a spacious place with a more intimate part for smaller parties. Parking is very convenient t with with the multi storey car park next door ($20 for three hours) or you can opt for the free open lot in the side.

As both a frequent patron and a professional. I am continually blown away by the experiences Yoshi's team delivers. From a fan's perspective, the atmosphere at Yoshi's is unmatched. They created an intimate, world-class setting where the connection between the artist and the audience feels incredibly special. The service is always seamless, welcoming, and the cuisine is par excellence, making every night a major event. From a technical standpoint, I have to commend their sound team and production services. Acoustic design in a venue that doubles as a gorgeous dining space is no small feat. The top level clarity, flawless mix, and production values make it look effortless. It is easily one of the best-sounding rooms I've experienced. Can't wait to visit again!

Beautiful night at a beautiful venue with incredible food. Im counting down the days until my next visit to Yoshi's. I love that Yoshi's is a one stop shop for entertainment and food. One half of the venue is an amazing restaurant while the other is to witness incredible music. Arrived on time for my 7:30pm reservation and was seated right away. Super pro tip - get a reservation! This place was HAPPENIN' Ya hear me?! There were tons of folks eating, drinking, celebrating, and having an overall good time. The food was absolutely incredible: Nigiri - Had a combo of Hamachi, Salmon, and salmon belly. Easily some of the best fish i've had in a while. So fresh and the salmon was fatty, buttery, and delicious. Caesar Salad - This was a miso caesar with a mix of kale and, romaine, parm, and wonton chips on top. YUMMY. Miso Cod - Out of this world! So good! And went perfectly with everything else I had that day. And the music was amazing! After our meal, we headed to the music venue portion of Yoshi's. We saw THE Rahsaan Patterson which was an awesome show. Great time over at Yoshi's! I really loved my experience and its so dangerous this is mega close to my new place.

Really like the ambiance with the live music and convenient to order food or drinks. You need an extra ticket for the concert. It's an upscale night out but very enjoyable. 5/5 Lychee martini was well balanced and also a good strong pour from the bartender. Not very sweet and enjoyed. Most cocktails were $18 4/5 Rainbow Roll Sushi was fresh tasting and pretty good. There was a range of rolls from $12-20 and this was a higher end selection I wish the concert was more than an hour long, it seemed a bit short. Then the staff and announcers were very keen to urge people to leave after the show ended so that felt rushed. It was nice to meet the artist in the lobby on the way out.

Ah...Yoshi's has been a pillar serving the community of Berkeley and later on Oakland for decades (originating in 1972). "One of the world's most respected jazz venues, earning a reputation as the Bay Area's premier location for great Japanese cuisine and jazz music." I was first introduced to Yoshi's because I took a Music Appreciation Class and had to attend 2-3 shows to earn a grade. Ambience: Elegant, modern Japanese decor. It's a fairly large restaurant. Parking garage closeby which Yoshi's will validate your ticket, saving you a few dollars. The music venues is like a little stage with small round tables and booths to sit at. Food: Hotate Edamame Risotto: pan seared scallops, sweet corn, edamame, risotto; edamame-shiso sauce (3/5). The scallops were juicy and had that nice crust on it. The risotto was just meh. Togarashi Kurobuta Pork Chop: Okinawa sweet potato puree, roasted apples, carmelized apple veal-jus (4/5). Tender, juicy pork. The mashed puree was good. Ginger Blossom: ginger beer, cherry juice, lemon, dash bitters (3/5). I liked my drink though it had a lot of ice in it. French Fries and Sweet Potato Fries (4/5). A big basket with crisp fries. The sweet potatoes were a bit soggy or soft. The Jazz venue was Peter White with Mindi Abair and Vincent Ingala. It was more Christmas music but with some of their songs they wrote. It was an enjoyable jazz music performance. Such a fun night!

I would always go to Yoshi's early because I didn't want bad seats. We'll, this time my group was seated in the back. And I now prefer it over the tables in the front. Good venue. Good ambiance. Food is good. Overpriced, but good.

    Yoshi's Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Yoshi's

What does it mean that patrons have to share seats?

No reserved seating. The venue is compromised of booths, floor table seating and booth style high seating in the back. It's common to be seated with people who don't know, thus the comment shared seating.

Can tickets be will called to avoid the etix fees?

    No.

I'm going to the show tonight is there any parking garage close to the place?

There also is oftentimes street parking, free after 6pm. That's where I always park and my car has never been messed with -- and I've been to Yoshi's about a dozen times.

Does the venue have a seating arrangement for single patrons and do they have a minimum drink purchase requirement?

Seating is the worst! I had a terrible experience.

I'm confused. Is the restaurant a separate space from the music venue?

Yes, the restaurant and music venue are indeed separate.

If the show is 9:30 will the kitchen still be open to do full service menu while watching the show?

The kitchen might be open but good luck getting any service.

If I dine there and wish to go to a concert afterwards, do I need to buy tickets for the concert?

Yes, you need to buy tickets for the concert. However, if you're dining there beforehand, they will reserve seats for you at the concert since it's normally first come first serve for good seating.

I have two Pacific Manbo Orchestra tickets for tonight, but I don't see the seating number. How I can reserve the seats? Or is there no seating? Or is there only for standing?

IF YOU HAVE MEET & GREET TICKETS, YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY IN THE FIRST 2 ROWS. IF YOU DINE THERE, THEY WILL RESERVE YOUR SEATS. OTHERWISE FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. HOPE THAT ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION

What are the current social distancing guidelines for concert goers?

No Covid protocols at Yoshis. Vaccines not required. Most people wear masks but not required. Many of the shows are at 50% as can't sell tickets, not due to Covid protocols.

We are New parents would we be able to bring our 3 month old to our date night here?We do not have any family in the area for a sitter. He is a good baby! Does not cry when we are out. TIA.

I would say yes for the restaurant, probably not for the show. Be prepared to take him out to the car if he does start to cry in either place. We had good quiet babies too, but there was once or twice that one of us had to walk the baby out to the…

I'm trying to get a refund for a Kenny G concert that never happened on 4/30/20. Is anyone else having this problem?

Heads up people! I contacted 7 On Your Side and Brinke Guthrie contacted Yoshis for me. Brinke then contacted me in 48 hours letting me know I should be hearing from Yoshis/Event Brite within a few days. Today, I received an email from Yoshis and…

    Is Yoshi's open during COVID?

    Yes

Do they have a whisky/scotch/bourbon menu or do they do cocktails only?

    Yes

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel near this restaurant?

    Waterfront hotel a good one.

Do I need to make reservations if I'm planning to dine in the lounge instead of the restaurant area?

What if you have show tickets and you don't eat at the restaurant. Can you still see the show? what seating will you get / or will you have to stand?…

For fellow Sacramento area music lovers how is this as a day trip, i.e. Driving down and back on the same day? Do able? Better on a weekend day?

Yes,PERFECT for a day trip!! A little traffic getting here, you're be fine

Can you get in if you're under 21?

    Yes, it's a restaurant!
