Had dinner there this weekend. A really nice place that serves good to great food. Not to be confused with outstanding dishes. The sushi is a bunch of rolls that have so many ingredient that you really lose track of the taste of the fish. They rolls are good but to a real sushi fan fall short on taste The bao buns were very good, the chicken lettuce wrap were nice but the small leafs of romaine lettuce weren't conducive to wrapping. Service was great, atmosphere fine. Food ok. My rating is 3.5 but gave a 4 for good service. read more

Except for the hike up the stairs I really like the place. The food is tasty and the drink prices are reasonable. Parking in downtown Wilmington on the other hand is no joke. There are plenty of public lots and taxis around because the Po-Po is out in droves to catch drinkers who also drive. Beware. read more

Yosake is the best Asian spot for sushi and noodles on the entire East Coast, if not in the country. Awesome selection of specialty rolls and noodle dishes, and the generous portion sizes will leave you satisfied! Whenever I come to Wilmington to visit family, I have to stop here for one or two meals. Cocktails are tasty and they have a nice selection of Asian beers and sakes, too. If you like crazy, serious heat, then the rage sauce is a must!!! It is soooooo spicy, but delicious!! On top of all of that, the service is on point. Great staff who are pleasant and patient and kind. We always sit at the bar because of our bartender, Tom, who is always super attentive and provides great service! Really good sushi, staff was very friendly, and they also have a lot of happy hour specials and deals on drinks AND food. My bf and I had 3 appetizers and 2 specialty rolls and the bill only came to 30$ . I also love the ambiance, it it located upstairs of another establishment. Pretty cool place, would def come again. Also, everyone is wearing masks, tables and seats were wiped down before we sat, and menus are through a code on your phone so you don't have to touch any shared menus. Sadly, this place was average. They are missing basic sushi rolls like a salmon avocado roll. The rice on their rolls was very dry, and honestly seemed old. They made a special roll for me and the avocado was old, it had dark spots. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for sushi. read more

I really enjoyed eating at Yosake! It has such a fun, cool atmosphere! I love that it's upstairs and above Husk, one of my favorite bars! The service was great! We picked this restaurant as we were looking for a nice sushi dinner and it did not disappoint! I called from the car to check if dining in was available and 20 minutes later we were in the restaurant. We were greeted outside and wore masks to proceed upstairs. The place is well designed, good vibe with lights and is clean. I started paying more attention to cleanliness so I took a note of this. The waitress was super friendly and a hostess checked on us too. I felt we were serviced well and food came quickly but we never felt rushed. This is hard to achieve, so I am giving 5 stars for the experience. Sushi specialty rolls were unique and we tried several kinds. We also had chicken jalapeño egg rolls as an appetizer and we all really enjoyed these. Not to hot but had some fire from jalapeño. MY FAVORITE DOWNTOWN SPOT. This place has never let me down. Whether I'm going out for date night or bringing my kids along, I know I'm going to have a great meal. This is also one of my top 5 places for sushi in the Wilmington area! The restaurant vibe is so vibrant and fun. The wait staff is amazing and always on point! We usually start out with an appetizer (I recommend the firecracker shrimp) and then order a few different rolls to share. I've never had anything on the menu I wasn't crazy about. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building so if you don't know what you're looking for it is a little difficult to find. However, once you do, it becomes your favorite place and you end up constantly craving sushi. If you aren't a sushi lover NO WORRIES! They have many different dishes and sides you will find appealing (curry, noodles, teriyaki etc). This place is a little more on the expensive side but they constantly have specials and happy hour deals! Tonight I met a couple friends there for my birthday and I showed up a few minutes before 6, our server generously honored the happy hour menu (which ends at 6) and prices. After calling back someone finally answered but they put you on hold. After 10 min on hold, a hooman finally answered. Was told the wait for take-out was 45 min. Why advertise curb side pickup when you can't even order conveniently for a curb side pick-up. This place caters to the tourists who don't know any better and want to eat 'downtown'. Let me start by saying that I am a downtown resident of Wilmington, and had previously had very good experiences at Yosake. So much so that when my grown children were visiting from California, I was excited to take them to a restaurant that had always provided good service and exceptional food. My good friend and I, (also a local) popped into Yosake on May 22 about 5 pm. We were met by an extremely hostile, overbearing hostess who, when we inquired about the possibility of securing a table for 5, snipped that she had nothing available for the entire night. (Let me say that the restaurant was roughly half full at this point and the bar was completely empty.) We were a little taken aback by her attitude which was quite rude and abrupt, and said that we would be happy to sit at the bar. (Remember, it was empty). She snipped that the bar was fully booked as well and that basically we needed to leave. At this point my husband and the kids were on their way, so I said to my friend, "let's just go sit at the bar and call them so we can make other plans." At this point, (I am still stunned to think of it) the "hostess" sharply told us that we were not allowed to sit at the bar; that all the seats were reserved. I told her that at best it would take me a couple of minutes to make my call but she told us we COULD NOT SIT THERE TO MAKE A CALL! Should I take this moment to say that both my friend and I had been at a film event that day and both were dressed nicely; so it wasn't as if we were homeless trying to secure a spot out of the rain. We left, speechless at the outright rudeness of this person who's only job is to interact with the public. Wow. BAD CHOICE Yosake! We ended up going to Seabird where we were accommodated immediately. At this point I will never go back to Yosake and will take my year round, non-tourist dollars to all the other many wonderful restaurants in Wilmington. read more

We finally got back to Wilmington and were able to visit Yosake again. Wow! What a great experience. My wife's sister and my brother-in-law were with us and knew Bekah (the owner) and so she stopped by and said hello. From there we were so well taken care of - impeccable service especially when compared to our prior trip. The food was incredible - my wife and I both had the Teriyaki filets which were extremely tender and flavorful. The Firecracker shrimp and beef spring roll appetizers were also awesome. Definitely high quality sushi and food!!! Portions are large so you can definitely split for $6 fee or just have leftovers. Loved the atmosphere but most of the two tops are tiny and my only complaint would be that the bartender was very slack when we were getting drinks waiting for our table. No sense of urgency and not very busy. Also was unaware but most of the tables are reservation only so even on a calm night we had to wait since we had no reservation - but will just make a reservation next time! overall great place to get good Asian fusion and sushi!! I was excited to find this place within walking distance downtown. Hotel said it was good. When I arrived, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the service was very nice and helpful. The sushi was disappointing. The prices were kinda high so I assumed the rolls were big. I was wrong, the servings were tiny. I have never been served undercooked rice at a sushi bar but I was tonight! The red snapper was not fresh, and they do not serve eel, because it is over fished. I guess someone needs to farm eel. In conclusion, next time I will be driving to Genki and if I am too drunk to drive I will get NY pizza. PS the hotel says they must be having a bad night. read more

Sniff, sniff, tear, tear - Yosake wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I love sushi and this was decent but not great. The rolls fell apart easily and weren't super fresh in my opinion, but whatever. A lot of people had the cooked Asian fusion type dishes, I would really like to try one of those next time because they looked and smelled quite yummy. And $6 for edamame! Another let-down of the most popular sushi joints in Wilmington. I had a hard time decided what rating to give, but it has to come down to the food. PROs: Decor & atmosphere were lovely. I loved the interesting anime inspired artwork. There are exposed brick walls that made me feel like I was back in Philadelphia. The waiter was nice and very quick. He did not check too many times or check too little, perfect service timing in my opinion. I do really like the 5-7pm happy hour sushi prices. It is almost worth going. The sushi was fresh enough and had the right amount of "spicy" in the spicy tuna roll I got. CONs: Weird entrance. You have to go up a narrow stairway to get there. On our way out we couldn't fit 2 parties down the stairwell. Location is a little difficult to see if you're not looking for it. The sushi was very disappointing. I now know what the previous reviewers are talking about when they say the rolls are americanized. And I completely agree about the "crunch" part of the roll - it really is just a weird breadcrumb type topping. I feel like it almost ruined the roll. This place always gets mentioned when I ask for the best sushi in town and I was disappointed! Yosake has been a staple in my dining repertoire since they opened! I love the location, right in the heart of downtown, on the second floor of a historic building up a beautiful wooden staircase awaits a world of anime art! The whole atmosphere is such a funky mix of history and art that it works. I really love being able to step out onto the balcony with a glass of sake or wine, which they have very nice selections of both. Sushi here is always fresh and somewhat inventive, I have never had poor service that I can remember, and the atmosphere is fun! There is always at least one table that ends the night with a sake-bomb (we are usually this table!) and then others end up joining in. Must try dishes include the sesame encrusted seared tuna with soba noodles, spicy beef satay, and the firecracker shrimp. All are flavorful and cooked perfectly, and they know how to do spicy here, which I greatly appreciate! read more

But the sushi rolls I ordered off this menu were very hastily thrown together, and the Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls were not made or presented properly. All that was inside was shrimp and green noodles. Yes, green noodles. No herbs, nothing - and they didn't serve the rolls with the correct sauce. I did enjoy the tomato ginger bisque, and my dad liked his duck, which came with baby bok choy, but the poor babies were slightly burnt. Service was so-so. The waitress was pleasant but our appetizer was slow to come out and it took a while to get refills on our water. The decor is really random. I like the red walls and orchids but I could do without the huge anime/manga paintings. I know someone people are crazy about anime but I am not. I find the huge eyes creepy. I am so sorry. I wanted to love this place. Cute ambiance but food was ok and service was terrible. When we checked in the there was one table available. The hostess said she needed to check with the server to see if she was willing to take another table. She came back and said the server would go ahead and take us. Ok thank you (I guess). From the beginning to the end, our server was really impatient and seemed annoyed if we had any questions. We felt rushed to order and when we did she did make an effort to come back to check on us. Water did not get refilled and you better not want another drink. I will give the one hello kitty drink a thumbs up. Great raspberry flavor. The chicken and jalapeño egg rolls were soggy, not good. We love this place. Now that we live close to downtown this place has become a go to spot for us. First off, it is just a really cool space with a great vibe. Nice and modern without being overly stuffy or cold. More important though is the food. Everything we've had has been great. Tempura, noodles, sushi, you name it...it's good. To top it all off.. the prices are awesome. They have some sort of special every night of the week and happy hour goes until SEVEN. Was enjoying the day in water front Wilmington, and decided to try Yo Sake out during happy hour. My SO and I weren't extremely hungry so we ordered their crunchy spicy tuna roll, and when It came out, I was quite disappointed. =/ The best thing on the plate that I had was the pickled ginger. The "Crunch" part of the roll was a weird toasted bread crumb consistency that they sprinkled on top of the roll. I know i'm being pretty harsh based on just one roll, but if you can get a simple roll right....then how would the other things on the rest of the menu taste? Another reason that I gave it a two star is because of their spicy mayo sauce. An authentic spicy mayo sauce is made with kewpie mayo (japanese mayo), but their spicy mayo sauce tasted like it was made with american mayo....uh, no thanks. Although, I was unhappy with their sushi. The ambiance of the restaurant would be perfect for a date, especially at night time. We ate here during Restaurant week, after realizing our first choice restaurant was not open on Mondays. I can't speak for the every day pricing but the Restaurant week deal was great. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor and the entrance is easy to miss if you're not familiar with the location. I expected it to be a bit pretentious but it was actually a very laid-back restaurant. I agree the anime on the walls is a bit creepy. The food itself was good. Tuna tartare was my favorite of the evening. The Pineapple fried rice was quite good and quite spicy (not uncomfortably so). House salad was average, as was the lychee sorbet. This place has a really cool southern California vibe. The traditional rolls (happy hour rolls) are about the same size as a quarter. I made the mistake of ordering several of the traditional rolls and left full but not fat-and-happy full. If you come here definitely plan on getting one of the more expensive and fancy rolls. The place really appealed to my inner nerd with the anime artwork and sushi rolls named after anime characters. Getting here is a quest for me, an average American, since you have to hike up some steps. However, the destination is worth the increased heart rate and windedness. I love, love , love this place! It's one of the first places I recommend to people who want a night out in Wilminton. As soon as you walk up the stairs, you completely see what is best about downtown Wilmington. It's modern and edgy without being uncomfortable! It's just such a cool vibe, you just want to hang out, sip sake and make an evening of it! The foods great too! I'm not a huge sushi fan, but everyone I have ever been with always rave about the sushi and say it Wilmington's best! For me there is plenty of other things on the menu to eat, (all equally as good as the sushi) So don't be scared to wander off from the group and order something other than sushi. Plus they have a great drink menu as well, which always helps to make evening out a true event! 2 more reason YoSake rocks - 1. It has the best happy hour menu in town! From 5-7 their happy hour has 1/2 sushi , which rocks for people like me on a budget! 2. They have a late night menu. If you spend enough time in Wilmington, one of the thing you'll notice is its sometimes hard to find a decent meal after 9pm, but YoSake has a late night menu (again it is slimed down, but still its probably on of the best late night menu downtown! After hearing rave reviews about this restaurant I was expecting a much better experience. I got a "chef's choice" roll, which was awesome and very inventive, but I did notice that the fish wasn't the highest quality - the inventive-ness made up for it. Unfortunately, my entree, the $70 sashimi platter, was very disappointing. I thought that based on the price we would be getting top cuts, but instead my salmon was very chewy and the tuna had that sad mealy taste to it. I will say that the mackerel was well done. But it was extremely overpriced for what was actually offered. If you're looking for top quality sashimi, go to Genki instead. It was Christmas Eve, I was in Wilmington with the husband and a friend, and I was happily anticipating celebrating in a beautiful restaurant as opposed to my in-laws' generic basement. Lucky for us, Yosake was open. We walked up a flight of wide, grand steps into this funky room with cartoonesque decor. We ordered Firecracker Shrimp and Edamame Hummus. Both very good. For our entree, my husband and I shared sushi. We had Shrabster, which featured lobster and crab, and Tempura Vegetable Roll, which of course featured tempura vegetables, plus the nicest most unusual smattering of almonds. Excellent sushi. If I had one complaint, it would be that a little more wasabi was provided on the plate. But, hey! It was Christmas Eve, and this place had the graciousness to remain open. Next year, when I have to sit in the in-laws' basement eating mayonnaise laden potluck food, I will wistfully think of Yosake. And sigh. read more

Happy Hours, 80s Night, Locals Night. You can always get deals. Put them on your list for restaurant week. It's the best deal in town: 4 courses (including firecracker shrimp!) for $25.
