Me and my girlfriend have gone to this spot several times over the course of the past 8 months. We've always had the best service and food there is to ask of any restaurant. However, on Valentine's day, our service was subliminal. Our first waitress was running around and stressed, then our second waitress seemed off. We waited 10 minutes for our drinks and then 15-20 minutes before we got our soup and salad. Then another 40 minutes passed. By then it was 8:30 and we were very impatient and hungry. After grabbing our waitresses attention from socializing with another table she gave us the okay to leave. Once we got up, there was very little business going on. Multiple tables empty, very few tables actually needed service. We are still trying to understand what happened, we love this restaurant as it's been here during our relationship. I really hate do this review. I feel like I'm sharing my little secret James Beard hidden gem. I just don't want this place to get too crowded and popular, meaning I can't get a table when I drop by. I've been here twice over the past 2 months and was just as impressed with the second trip as the first. We come by during their lunch specials, smaller portions but smaller prices, but enough so you leave satisfied but not miserable. Everything we had has been delicious: Pad Thai is awesome, basil chicken, massaman curry, all fantastic. I thought the sushi was adequate. My daughter loves sushi so that's her meal both times, and she was thrilled with it. The Bento Box is a great meal here, quite a variety of food and you feel like you had a chance to try so much. Our service has been good, a little slow the second trip but really not bad that I was upset. We will be returning here again soon. We arrived before 5pm and were some of the only people in the restaurant & still waited over thirty minutes for our food (hibachi chicken & an order of sushi). Overall the chicken was cooked well but lacked flavor, my vegetables (carrots, broccoli, & onions) were practically still raw & my fried rice was pretty much just white rice put on the plate with tiny bits of egg. read more

The service here was mediocre at best. The hostess and waitress did their jobs but were unfriendly. We felt that our presence was a bother to them despite being the only ones in the restaurant at 4:00 on a Sunday. We should've taken that as a hint to reconsider our dining choice. I ordered chicken teriyaki and my husband got sweet and sour chicken. We both had the same bland, unevenly cut and cooked chicken which was covered in what tasted like sauce out of a jar. The fried rice was merely plain rice with a dash of soy sauce and few dabs of egg spread throughout . The spring roll looked good and was crispy on the outside but soggy and tasteless inside. This place is not as bad as I thought the first go around. I usually get the sushi/sashimi combo and it is pretty good. None of the combos for lunch come with soup or salad. The Kani salad comes with eel sauce on top and I always forget to ask for it not to come with that. It is always buy 2 rolls get one free and they are not bad. Service has gotten much better. Four of us had dinner here recently. It was my first time dining in, while the first time at all for my friends. We would have enjoyed listening to Japanese music or any other music, rather than the hum of the HVAC system. This place didn't "feel" Japanese or lively; no "irasshaimase!" greetings (Welcome, please come in). The place could use some updating. As far as the food goes, everything ranged from good to excellent! Our appetizers: fried gyoza for DH and me; and shrimp dim sum and vegetable soup for our friends. We were happy with our choices! Six Happiness has a buy two sushi rolls and get one free deal. It took a while to figure out what we wanted as they had a list of 53 rolls!!! If you haven't been here before, take the time to study the menu in advance. It took us several minutes to figure out what we wanted. My friends ordered the Amazing Salmon Roll, Leland Roll, and Hawaiian Rolls. DH and I ordered the Leland Roll, Summer Roll, and Green House Rolls. For me, my favorites were the Leland and Summer Rolls. Love that they named one for our town. All of us were really happy to have this place near where we live to enjoy some good sushi. There aren't a lot of restaurants in Leland so it's good to have a place like this nearby. I would give this place five stars if it weren't for some of the staff not wearing masks properly (noses were exposed) and the long wait for the food. It also took a while to get another coke or another carafe of sake, but at least we weren't rushed to get in and get out. I'm definitely looking forward to going back and try other rolls. But sushi sucks and again it's the 3rd separate time it's happened. Go to Wilmington if you want ACTUAL good sushi and get your right order. I have had mixed service here but my last visit was the best one yet. This is probably my 10th time visiting Six Happiness and that is because the food is great and the lunch prices are unmatched. I get the buy 2 rolls get 1 free and it usually comes out to around $15, unless you don't get any speciality roles. I've had a new server every time and again, some of my trips I've waited over an hour when nobody was in the restaurant to get my food but other trips have been better. Always fresh and made to order... The Sunset roll is spicy crab meat, crunch and cucumber inside with salmon and sliced lemon on top. The little sliver of lemon takes it to a different level. The Crazy Dragon roll is my reigning favorite with spring tempura and crab inside with eel sauce and avocado outside. My son loves the spicy tuna roll, the Boston roll and the eel and cucumber rolls. I Love Sushi. However, I couldn't eat the sushi here. Every piece--the tuna, the salmon, the red snapper--was very stringy. I was literally pulling strings of tendon or fiber out of my mouth. Ew. When I went to pay with a credit card, I waited 10 minutes to get the credit card slip back to sign, while I watched this guy stand at a booth with a family that had just arrived, schmoozing while I sat there waiting.
