I've been trying to write a review about this place and I cant really put it all into words besides saying "GOOOO" I was in town from Florida and I had this place on my list. The service was excellent and the food blew me away. The pictures are not doing it any justice. The fish !! The Jollof rice (the best I've had) and the sweet plantains. Carribean restaurants please report to this post and take note that this establishment didn't give us a measly 2/3 strips they gave us a whole bowl of plantains. Thanks to social media, I've developed a real love for Ghanaian food, so I decided it was time to finally support this spot. I went with a friend and we arrived on a lively Bronx block that felt like its own little restaurant festival. The whole street is filled with different cuisines, people walking around, and a steady buzz that makes you feel like you chose the right place to explore. We got there early, around six or seven, before the sun went down. We even found parking around the corner, which honestly felt like winning a small jackpot in the Bronx. The block has everything: college students, families, delivery drivers flying in and out, and people who clearly just came for the energy. When we walked inside, the hostess immediately asked if we had reservations. We didn't. We were just walking in to try our luck. She let us know nothing was available at that moment. I looked to the left and noticed a bar-style prep area that looked like a possible seating option, so I asked if we could eat there. She went to check and came back with another staff member. Thankfully, they were able to find us a regular table, which was great because I was already preparing my "smile and leave quietly" exit strategy. I ordered the lamb and it was super delicious. My friend ordered the fish and said it was just okay. That stung a little because the fish looked incredible on social media. I was expecting that dish to be the star of the show, so I was disappointed it didn't live up to the hype. Still, the plantains were amazing, the sauces were on point, and I would definitely come back to try more of the menu. My only feedback is about the temperature. It was cold outside and somehow even colder inside. The air conditioner was working like it got paid by the hour. I wish they monitored that a bit more, because when it is cold outside, the inside shouldn't feel like the Arctic too. Overall, I would absolutely return. The location has great energy, the staff was helpful, and even though the fish didn't deliver, the rest of the food definitely did. I'll be back to explore more Ghanaian dishes for sure. read more

The food is so good that I couldn't stop eating! Truly every dish is phenomenal. My favorite is the lamb, but every dish is cooked so well from flavor to texture. Not a single miss. Absolutely loved pairing the meats with their the pico toppings too. The spicy sauce packs a powerful yet addicting punch. Waitress was kind enough to let us sample fermented cassava and patiently stood by our table while we asked questions and browsed the menu. Amazing atmosphere inside too. DJ kept the place hype with music. Some people came into the restaurant just to merely dance and mingle too! If you're looking for good food and a good night, highly recommend. read more

Very disappointed in the fish. I ordered the fish on Thursday it was so good I decided to order it again on Friday. We received the fish and start to eat it and it had the fish teeth still in the fish. I finished the fish at work and found another tooth. VERY DISAPPOINTED FOR A 33.00 fish . Amazing food, amazing vibe, great customer service. I was impressed by how much the Management checked on us to make sure we were okay. I believe the restaurant is Ivorian and I imagine Yop City is derived from Yopougon in Ivory Coast. Waitress was very polite and made things happen quickly despite a busy night. Everything we tried was amazing as the other reviews have already mentioned. Sundays there is a DJ so its a different vibe and a bit of a wait so if you want a little quieter atmospehere maybe go on a weekday. I'm definitely going back for the leg of lamb and chicken. Also, the portions are HUGE a couple people can definitely share an order or two. Congrats to this establishment for setting the bar high. read more

Huge fish, more than enough for two. It is cut in a way that is not too hard to take off the bone. I like the veggie that comes with it; it tastes really good. The sauce is super spicy. Food comes out kinda slow. read more

We ordered the tilapia and it was NOT cleaned properly inside. We also had the Pintade chicken which was a bit salty and the same onions mix/flavor as it was the fish. Couscous was dry. WOW! Is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Yopcity. Named after a neighborhood in Abidjan called "Yopougon", Yopcity truly takes you back to life in Ivory Coast and immerses you in a West African culinary experience that very few places can replicate. I absolutely adore French West African cuisine and my favorite place to get it (other than homemade or back home) is in NYC. The best spots are usually in Harlem or the Bronx. Yopcity gained a lot of attraction on TikTok as the hottest new African restaurant in the Bronx so I had to check it out. I've been here twice and both times were absolutely amazing although the portion sizes seemed larger the first time. The ambience is so up scale making it the perfect place for a birthday dinner or Friday night out in the city with friends. The decor is BREATHTAKING (even the decor in the bathroom), and they have live music on some nights. The staff is super friendly and attentive despite how busy it is which is something that you don't always see in NYC. And the food.... 10/10! I only wish that there were more things on the menu! They have a "Soup of the day" that changes often but other than that there are only around 4 main entrees that you can get every day. That being said, the food is extremely tasty, well seasoned, and tastes so authentic. Both times here we got the poisson braise, attieke, plantains, lamb dibi and the ginger and sorrel drinks. My only complaint is that the drinks were way too sweet. The rest of the food was amazing. My friend got the fried fish and really loved it. If you like indifferent, lackluster, insufficient waiter staff service and table service, extraordinary long wait for table drink delivery and the toughness from the Guinea Fowl entree - then this place is for you! I dined there this past Saturday with a group of friends. was excited to try the cuisine and support this establishment, but was extremely disappointed in the lack of attentive table service and quality of food preparation. First it took about 15 minutes to get someone to come to our table to order our juice drinks and dinner entrees and about 30 minutes thereafter to get our drinks. Sliced Italian bread was brought to the table with small plastic pats of butter without any serving plates. When our drinks had not arrived I went to the front bar and asked the waitress who was busy talking with other staff where our drinks were and she said she would bring them now. She then brought them to our table in cans and plastic bottles along with glasses of ice for us pour them in to ourselves. I asked her why it took this long to bring these drink when they were from the cooler and did not require any preparation and she said she was waiting to serve the drink to us when our entrees arrived. And when I asked her why there were no serving plates for the bread, she said they don't provide plates only paper napkins. To their credit another waitress came to our table and said she would take over providing our table service who was very nice and attentive. The Guinea fowl entree came out on sizzling platter towering with sautéed onions and fragrant spiced aromas, but every bite was unfortunately tough and rubbery. My friends seem to have enjoyed their diner entree selections. I am sure there are many other fine West African restaurants around the city, but in my opinion this is not one of them. read more

The food was superb, and the ambience was comfortable and classy. I was really impressed with this place. It's really a hidden gem on Arthur Ave! The braised lamb shank was so tender and flavorful. Yet, somehow, the big sosso (fried croaker fish) was so good that it still managed to be my favorite dish (note that it did not come in a bed of tomato sauce as the menu may have implied but rather had a small spicy sauce on the side that may have been tomato based). The attieke with a dusting of maggi was a really pleasant pairing with the croaker fish and lamb. The plantain was nice to have but outshined by everything else - they were diced and made in an interesting way that made them stick together. The ginger juice and bissap were refreshing. My friend reported that the ginger had a nice peppery bite - I'll have to order this next time. This might be sacrilege, but skip the Italian food in Bronx little Italy and don't miss out on this wonderful spot. read more
