It's a small mom and pop location. A bakery/restaurant that is Mexican/Salvadorian food. It's half bakery and half cooked fast food. I love coming here for their pan bolillo. The bakery/restaurant gives off a feeling like a home away from home. It's nothing fancy, but they usually have comfort food. The staff is friendly, nice, and quick at getting your orders completed. This is for a delivery order. The pupusa was very good but I did not like that they combined the curtido with the salsa. So it was a saucy curtido . I like my pupusa with lots of sauce and curtido on the side not combined with lil sauce. The tacos were okay meaning the meat was good but they didn't pack any of the salsas I requested with the tacos and no onions and cilantro. Just plain AF stale tasting tortillas with the meat. The atol de elote which usually is my favourite in other Salvadorian places here in la and in el Salvador ( which nothing better than the og source) tasted super watered down which made it not enjoyable to drink imo. Haven't tried the pastries but they look good. So I give them that. Since they are a bakery after all I don't think they would be bad will find out later with the cafecito. I would probably stick to the baked goods next time and not bother with anything else. read more

Who knew that a Salvadorian Bakery was something I needed in my life? Came up for some delicious baked goods and some breads and noticed they serve food as well. Looks like the pupusas are a top seller so I need to definitely try those next time. It smells so good inside and they have so many things to choose from. I got some raspberry butter cookies and some treats stuffed with an apple and raspberry custard. They also have beautiful cakes you can purchase that are premade or you can make a special order. I was hungry, had just come from a funeral in Simi Valley and decided to stop at the Bargain Mart on my way home, as there are none near me in Mid City. There were 2 places to eat next door. I chose Yolanda's. I looked at all the yummy baked goods to see if there was anything my daughter would love. It all looked good, but nope. The hot table was full of things i did not really recognize and should have asked questions about, but saw the magic word "burrito" on the menu on the wall and went for low hanging fruit. I asked if the meat was precooked, she said no, it will take 10 minutes. I got carne asada, with cheese, beans, no rice and a plantain. I love plantains and this one was great instead of rice. Mild salsa, no onions, ready in 10 minutes. Really, it was not the tenderest meat I ever ate but for $13.60 it was very generous, tasted good, and was fresh. I ate half and had the rest for dinner. They also make fresh chicharrones to order. Next time I am in the neighborhood I will try the Salvadorean food. I liked it enough to come back. I have no complaints about the staff, they were very kind and helpful, in spite of my pidgin Spanish. read more

Yolanda's bakery and La Paz Bakery the best salvadorean bakeries in the Valley. I love the Loroco pupusas are out of this world very original, delicious. The chicken tamales salvadorean style are delicious, the refried plantains sweet. The combo dinners with rice and beans age super big portions the beef stew is our favorite with a roll on a side or salvadorean tortillas. We like to order a dozen combo of pupusas and tamales a little expensive for masa and cheese, but once a year i guess is okay. We visit both bakeries often normally the lines are long at La Paz bakery between 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Sunday morning. We highly recommend both bakeries, we are loyal customers. This place is nestled between a small shopping complex next to Carrillo's Mexican food! I needed a tres leches cake for my dads birthday so I came across this yelp with pretty decent reviews... That's what http://dictionary.com says and that is the best word to describe my meal at Yolanda's Bakery. Even though Yolanda's is a bakery, they are also a quick serve restaurant offering Mexican and Central American fare such as Burritos, Tamales, Rellenos and Mariscos. They have 4 tables and some awesome looking pastry cases. Coffee is either 99 cents or $1.49 a cup depending on the size according to one sign. They also sell bags of ice for $1.49. Other than that, I have no idea what the price is for anything else as the wall menu does not list the prices, nor are there any paper menus to be seen. Also it was hard to get a look at the food on the steam table due to condensation on the windows of the display case and on the lids. So since I was ordering blind I ordered a Burrito Pollo. They didn't have fountain soft drinks, just various bottles in cans in a cooler. These were all imports for their Latin American clientele. Things like Jarritos in several flavors, coconut water, and several shelves of glass bottles of Mexican Coca-Cola. AKA the good shit. If you don't know the difference, they don't use High Fructose Corn Syrup south of the border. They use sugar. And although Coke's official position is the there is no difference in taste, they lie!--- everyone knows the sugar in the Mexican stuff is much better. Anyways, I was surprised that the burrito and the Mexican Coke came to $6.04 including tax. The burrito was humongous, about the size and shape of one of those 23 ounce cans of Diet Arizona Ice Tea that they don't offer for sale there, and when I opened it to add some salsa verde looked like it might be a world-class burrito. But alas it wasn't. It actually was kind of yucky. While there was plenty of cubed chicken, much of it white meat; there was also plenty of evidence that no one took the time to properly trim the chicken. About 4 or 5 times I had to grab a napkin and remove gristle from my mouth, and I did find one piece of bone. The chicken didn't seem to be marinated or flavored and was still lukewarm, although the beans and rice were piping hot. Speaking of the carbs, they appeared to have been applied diagonally. While I started the burrito from one end, it appeared there were way to many beans and not nearly enough rice. Towards the middle of the burrito the ratio was just right, but as I worked my way to the finish, the rice overwhelmed the beans. Although the menu promised cilantro and cebolla (onion), those flavors were lacking as well. At the time I was there about 130 pm on a Wednesday), 3 of the 4 tables were each occupied by a single day-laborer looking guy all watching a European soccer game (Barcelona V inter Milan) on a Spanish Language station. Judging by the reaction when Barcelona scored, I can only assume that these guys had some serious dinero riding on the game. I am giving these guys a 2 rating because, although I didn't order any pastries, they looked delicious. Of course everything covered in frosting looks delicious. Based on the burrito alone, this place would only earn a 1. Also, I think that the lack of posted prices and Diet beverages are major flaws as well. The most amazing Tres Leches Cake in Los Angeles. I have been coming here for over 3 years. for my b day i had tres leches from another place, but does not compare! As far as the food inside. i dont know! its seems like more day workers eat there. so if they come in groups of 2-3, it must be good. the prices are not posted, but its super cheap $5.75. and seafood is $6.75 Like i said i strictly come here for the baked goods! Worst service I have ever experienced. I was so excited to try this place because I saw how popular it was with the line out the door...NO! The line was long because there is no structure, the customers are ALL regulars and take their time ordering with no regard for the people behind them and the staff doesn't really care that you are waiting either!!! The girl that finally helped me was rude and short with me when she realized I didn't speak Spanish!!! I asked for extra cabbage. I was willing to pay extra.. she gave me a spoon full extra. When I asked, "that's extra?" she rolled her eyes at me.. and started talking shit about me to her coworker in Spanish...Little did they know I understand Spanish completely. I let them know I knew what they were saying as I walked out!!! I will never go back there again!! I do not recommend! I am beyond livid!! And hope the karma bus reaches them soon!! Dirty kitchen....Along with my husband, I have been coming here for the past 3 years however, 3 weeks ago, my husband stopped by (alone) for lunch: bad idea!!!!! As he was finishing his beef in sauce, he noticed there was a small dead ROACH floating in his plate!! Yuck! I've never been so happy for not going to lunch with him. Of course he didn't make a scene just got up and took his plate to the lady who served him and told her he doesn't expect for her to charge him. I know food is good but this place is NOT safe. Never again!!! FYI, it's been 3 weeks that my husband hasn't eaten out. Now I have to cook at home 7 days a week because that's the only way he can have peace of mind :( all thanks to Yolanda's nasty and dirty kitchen. For your own good.. I have been patronizing this location, since it is only 75 steps away from my house, for several years. I have also been to their other locations. They do make some awesome pastries that are Mexican and Salvadorian. The price is awesome and the quality of the sweet breads are better than some of the other local Mexican bakeries. I love to go here during the colder weather season too. They have some awesome Champurado, Atole and Mexican style hot chocolate. Those go very well with a nice sweet bread. The location is generally clean and filled with the aroma of baking bread as well as the other foods they prepare. I also enjoy eating the pupusas from here. Let's begin with the basics. The way I see it, this is a Salvadoran restaurant therefore the quality of tacos will be about mediocre. Now onto the actual review : The pupusas here are ok, but you can definitely get it elsewhere (actually about 5 mnutes away) and of better quality. The rest of your food options can definitely be delicious and fresh...depending on the time you arrive. You've got to eat their food in like those peak hours where it will definitely be fresh. (I'm suggesting around 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.) One thing that never really disappoints is the pan dulce (or in English "sweet bread"). It doesn't matter what time of day or how the weather is; one can indulge into a sweet treat with a refreshment of choice for a decent price. My 4 stars is based solely on the papusas. Well mostly on them. First the bad: The tacos I had gotten are mediocre at best. The tamalaes were ok. Now for the good: The chunks of beef soaking in liquid in the hot case. I am a sucker for stew like dishes. I ordered a medium and they put chunk upon chunk of meat in t o a Styrofoam drink cup. That meat was so food. The papusas!!! I have never had them made fresh. They always come out of the hot case. Either way they are delicious. Full of frijoles, queso, and pork. The tomato sauce is sweet and offsets the tartness of the marinated cabbage which go atop my papusas. I also drool over the piles stacks and rows of baked goods but have yet to try any of them. My husband found this spot recently and we've been there twice since. This place has a variety of food but I definitely question the freshness of their food. This is supposed to be a fast food place, so their food is displayed cafeteria style where you pick what you want. Flavor is good, no complaints there but some of the food looked like it'd been sitting out for too long. I'm accustomed to pupusas being made fresh at other restaurants and having to wait, but this place has them already made. I guess its a new concept for me. Still good though. The curtido that accompanies the pupusas was flavorful but their salsa lacked a little flavor. The bakery is what really I loved about this place. They have a variety of typical Salvadoran sweet bread such as semita, peperechas, budin and many others. They also have other latino favorites such as conchas and quesadillas (no, not the tortilla and cheese kind). This is also my new favorite place for bolillos. "Wait a minute, let me grab my knife" Pulling up to the parking lot at night here can be scary. When I see the tab of a knife in someones pocket, I pay attention. So I do the same in the hopes I get left alone. I had to stop and try the pupusas. After passing all the "locals", we ordered 2 cheese and 2 pork pupusas. They come with a big helping of the salsa sauce and pickled veggies. The veggies and the pork pupusas were good but the cheese pupusas were way too greasy and bland. Since this is a pupuseria and panaderia you gotta check out all the latin baked goods. I recommend the bread pudding, it was quite tasty.
