I am new to yoga. I started a month ago because of lower back pain. After months of working with a physical therapist and a chiropractor my back was not feeling better however, yoga has made all the difference. My back doesn't ache and I am walking without pain. I love the experience. The instructors are wonderful providing support and motivation. Tomer always finds something positive to say and his energy fills the room pushing everyone to get the most out of their practice. Wendy's Yinspiration class is also a favorite of mine as I can feel the tension drift away from my body during the hour. No mattered how stressed I am entering the class by the end I feel at peace. I wish the class was offered in the evenings as I'm sure it would be a great way to ensure a peaceful and very restful sleep. I've practiced bikram for 25 years and been in hot rooms all over the country and without a doubt Yogativiti has the BEST hot room I've ever been in. It is clean, great flooring and excellent lighting. I did both the classic 26 +2 class and also the bikram 75 class that is set to music and it was so much fun! Yogativiti is absolutely a wonderful Hot Yoga Studio. I am a very discerning Yogi. In fact there are few studios that I like. I often find them to be annoyingly agro with not great vibes - with some kind of condescending competitiveness that is not so chic... but here you are welcomed by SPOTLESS conditions, Smiling Faces, Excellent Instruction and at a great price. I live in NYC but spend most weekend in Connecticut and After doing about 10 classes thus far I simply look forward and can't wait to go! Bravo on this studio. They are actually real yogis meaning, they have kindness from within. No Fakes. Just real fun supportive wonderful practice that is challenging AND welcoming to all. LOVE IT!!! read more

I contemplated for awhile on whether to leave a review but I realised that it'll be good for others to know what they're getting themselves into. To start, Yogativiti is a gorgeous studio, parking in the lot next to the building, super clean hot room, infra red panels for heat, and great ambiance. And as a long time practitioner of Bikram Yoga, I took the 9 am 26+2 class on April 5th, 2021. It was advertised as Bikram but what I took was Bikram inspired and not Bikram. For starters, there were no breathing exercises (the 2 in the 26 and 2). I asked about it before class and Tomér (the teacher) told me that it was performed via nostrils instead of mouth because of COVID-19. But he just removed it completely. Secondly, the postures were off in terms of not doing it in duplicates e.g. Fixed firm pose which has been discussed to have the benefits in the second set, and a few others. When the class ended, I felt a little cheated by the description of the class and not getting it. It was a nice and juicy class, and a good yoga class BUT it was very far away from a good Bikram class. I hope that the owner corrects the description or at least takes notice of it. There were a few other things that were off but I'm just a student and not a teacher to comment on it. Will I return? Not for a Bikram class. Will I return for a different modality? Maybe. read more

For starters they do not pick up their phone. They claim that they will respond to your phone calls because they listen to the voice mail three times a day.I was planning on starting becoming a member regularly but I'm not because of poor communication via phone. In addition I paid more than your typical new student!! And you know why because of the phone. I understand that there are alternative ways to contact them, but as a customer I Prefer to use the phone. Lastly they're very inconsistent with start times.....some instructors wait 5 mins while others shit the door on you with no grace period! Which cause me to loose my class after driving 20 mins If I could give this a lower rating I would!! read more

I fell in love with Bikram at this studio. My practice has changed my life. After last week I can never go back here. I believe in the fundamentals of yoga, breathing, meditating, focusing. I took Zoeys class and have never practiced with her before. She teaches from the back of the room counts to 6 claps once and the posture is over. No feed back no individual correction or motivation. I would like to know if I'm in a posture correctly or not, that makes my yoga practice better. The one thing that almost made me walk out mid class (but I didn't because I have respect for the others in the room practicing and myself) a newer student was practicing next to me and she happened to be wearing an Apple Watch (doesn't belong in the hot room but some people like to track their workouts so I understand. Kind of) she was struggling in the heat which is completely normal, not once did Zoey motivate her to keep breathing or to simply lay down and control her breath. But as this woman was trying to figure out what to do as she was laying on the floor. (I'm sure she was feeling like quitting.) She began to check her Apple Watch in the most disruptive manner. I was stunned no one said anything. Moments later as I'm focusing on myself in the front mirror I can see the instructor Zoey herself wearing the same Apple Watch as the student who so rudely and selfishly just used her device during a moving meditation, the instructor does the same thing ! Even worse she looks at the Watch makes a few taps then steps outside the room and comes back! I understand instructors do step in and out of the hot room occasionally to get things to help students or even blast the cooler air. I don't get to dedicate as much time as I would like to, to my practice right now because of schedule conflicts but one of the few opportunities I have was nearly ruined from poor structure in the studio and from the instructor them self. I wanted to give this studio a chance after very obvious adjustments to the instructor list and unfortunately the way this class went proves that this is no longer the studio for me and probably not for anyone who cares about their practice. If they bring in real instructors who can enhance and better my practice I would come back. It is a beautiful studio and convenient from my job and home. I'm sorry BYS but something changed and it wasn't for the better. I'll be practicing somewhere else ASAP. read more

I think I have more of an issue with the concept of Bikarm rather than this studio. I've been practicing yoga for the last few years and wanted to give Bikram a try. The instructor was a drill instructor that, instead of encouraging modified postures and props for the less experienced, pushed all students to their absolute breaking point. In a 110 degree room, I feel that is not healthy and potentially dangerous for new students. I barely survived three classes, then made the decision to stick to Ishta and Vinyasa. read more

I really enjoy going to this yoga studio. The staff is friendly, helpful, and each instructor has their own personalities. It is not an easy class, and can take a couple of classes to get use to but, gets easier with every time that you go. It is really a great place to go, SWEAT!, and focus on yourself, and not worry about the outside world, to also know be Proud of the things you accomplished, not to worry about the things you didn't do. One downfall about the place is they do not have a mid-day class during the week. It is either from 9:30-11 , and the next class is at 5:30. I wish my membership didn't end! I loved going! I hope I will be able to sign back up again soon. The price is expensive, I would try the week trial ($25) to make sure you like it, before you sign up for the month sessions. read more

I had My first few Bikram classes with Julia on Sunday mornings, and she is wonderful! Her style is very relaxed and encouraging, which I appreciate. I drive from Milford up to Shelton for this class and it's worth the trip. The studio has done an amazing job of keeping everything safe and clean throughout the pandemic. I had a private one-on-one with Keri-Anne for prenatal yoga. The studio is very clean! It is huge with lots of mirrors- they do hot yoga classes as well. Keri-Anne is very nice and really knows a lot about yoga, and definitely a lot about pregnancy and prenatal yoga. I have taken other prenatal yoga classes but hers was much more focused on strength building- it is a real workout. Not only is she nice but so fair. Her prices are REALLY reasonable! She is very flexible with scheduling. She also listened to all of my concerns and was very informative along the class making sure I was doing poses safely and correctly. I really enjoyed the session and will be meeting with her weekly! read more

This is the best Bikram Studio I have ever been in. These 90 minute classes fly by. It is a great workout, with the benefits of meditiation. The heat is a plus while you practice yoga. The postures are challenging and our teachers are knowledgeable about the anatomy and guide students with compassion and with a sense of humor. The studio is beautiful with personal changing rooms. There are also showers and lockers available. Edi and her colleagues create a very joyful place to practice yoga. P.S. Warning . . . this Yoga is addicitive. read more

Worst experience of my life. I was four minutes late and given a shake of the head and a tap of her wrist watch. This place is all about rules and is everything that I hate about Bikram style of yoga. The fact that yoga is not made accessible by Bikram and particularly the studio is disgusting. I was late because it was a snowstorm and in any other yoga class or studio I would be allowed in. Yoga is meant to be for the people to change our world and to make people better kinder and more compassionate. This studio does none of those things by following the rules so stringently. read more

Instructors understand that everyone has different levels of experience. They encourage all proper poses, but will suggest a modified positioning for those with less experience. I found my flexibility as well as my balance to greatly improve after several classes. The detox factor is also apparent, as i noticed my skin to clear and glow more. The class is 90 minutes, at a very high temperature. I found the heat enable me to push my flexibility further. It is also a great workout thus aiding those who wish for weightloss. Those already at a comfortable weight will enjoy better muscle tone. read more

Let me start of by saying that I usually don't write reviews, but I would be hard pressed to not write one about this wonderful studio. I started to go in July 2014 because of some body ailments I was having. I pulled my hamstring really bad, and I had a limp when I walked. Some days I would wake up in excruciating pain, and I would have to take a pain killer just to walk and complete my day. I started to go and was happy I was there, but it is no easy task to go into a hot room for 90 minutes and do yoga. Too say the least I wasn't the best at yoga and I was always timid to go to class, but I persevered. A month into classes the pain that I couldn't get away with gym therapy, stretching, and light cardio exercises vanished. I was happy that the pain went away, but naivety kicked in and I stopped once I felt better. A few months down the road after stopping I start to feel the pain return. This time it seemed worst than the first time. I was shocked that it came back, but was happy that I knew how to fix the situation. I started to go to Bikram again, and I dare not stop. I do want to say that all the instructors are amazing and each has their own personality. Alexia Papadopoulos was the instructor for me. She is always available to chat about postures and to help improve for future classes. She is kind and sweet and pushes me more than I would myself. Needless to say she is the only yoga instructor for me. Not because the others are bad, but because she will remind me that I am stronger than my mind and will help me improve with each class I go to. read more

I was surprised to see only two reviews here...and poor ones at that. If I were to comment on these reviews or in general on what Bikram means to me I would say this practice is entirely of and for the mind. Anyone who thinks the poses are too physically challenging; the heat is too intense; or the instrutor is too intense - derived those ideas from their own mind. Bikram should not be considered a practice reserved only for the most advanced yogi. I just recently began coming to Bikram Yoga Shelton. While I had some experience with yoga it was purely from standard "mat classes" offered at my gym and from videos at home. I tried a hot yoga class out of the blue and then thought I'd try this place out. I came here knowing almost nothing about Bikram. Yes, the style is much different from those dark and quiet classes I was used to taking. The instructors' speak with clear and direct voices - something very unfamiliar too me and I found strange the first class. The room is bright and you do not close your eyes during the entire 90 minutes. I used to love closing my eyes and centering on my third eye in my standard yoga classes. This was a big depart from anything I had experienced before. But I understand why its different and have come to enjoy it. I think it's a common misconception that only really fit and experienced persons could walk right into a class like this and get it. Not so. I've seen pregnant women excel here without batting an eye. And I've seen truly fit persons struggle in this class as if it were more challenging than any weight they've ever lifted before. You don't need to be skinny or a health guru to practice Bikram. You could be both those things but if you can't get past certain blocks in your head - you will fail...or at least it will certainly feel that way. I think it comes down to simply you either get it or you don't. And most who don't aren't willing to try to understand because it's that initial unwillingness that prevents them from getting it in the first place. I know - that probably makes me sound self righteous. That's not my intention. I respect how others may feel and realize Bikram may not be for everyone. I simply want to explain my personal experience so far. I have been to only four classes here in the last 3 weeks and I can honestly say I learn a lot about this practice and myself each time. I also believe your mind is the only thing standing in your way. I have never felt of clearer mind or more focused than I have inside this classroom. At the start of my first class I thought "hmmm, this is different" but at the end of it I thought "wow, I've never felt this relaxed and calm - what just happened to me". I drove home in complete silence and then planned when I could attend the next class. This will probably sound bizarre to many but I do not even recognize the heat. Obviously, I understand the room is heated and there is humidity added as well. But the thought doesn't come to me - not when I first walk into the room and not after 90 minutes when I have finished and leave. I realize my perspective may sound strange or like I'm too far out there. Bikram yoga may not be for everyone or for you. But if you open up your mind and let it you can certainly succeed in it. To me it all comes down to a willingness to go somewhere unfamiliar and not question why or overthink it. I do that enough in my everyday life. I come here so I can break away from all that. read more

I travel from Norwalk to come to this studio and it doesn't disappoint. It's by far the cleanest bikram facility I've been too in Fairfield County, that includes the studio and the bathroom/showers. All the instructors I've had know their stuff and make sufferings through the heat enjoyable. Two thumbs up!!! read more

I love Bikram Yoga as a practice so I was surprised by my experience at this studio. The studio is very dirty and smells incredibly bad. The woman who taught - I think her name is Zoe - was rude and dismissive, lacked passion and interest, and did not even acknowledge me as a student when I came in to take the class. She taught the class as if she was a recording, going through the motions but not actually teaching or at all invested in the students. It was incredibly disappointed. The bad teaching, in combination with the awful smell (mold? Or just years of people's sweat sitting in the crevices of the rubber floor?) - it was too much. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Bikram Yoga has the potential to heal, but not in an environment where you have to worry about coming home with a staph infection and the teacher doesn't care or show interest in helping students. read more

The instructors truly care about their students, and will take the extra time to make sure your first class is not your last class. The yoga itself is good. The studio is nice, however I find some of the instructors to be slightly full of them selves and even obnoxious at times. People go to enjoy the class not listen to an instructor consistently talk about themselves . just a few weeks ago I was taking a class and the instructor snapped at the class-perhaps he was having a bad moment. read more

While I have not been to this studio, I just wanted to address some of the things Rachel D. had in her comments. First, Bikrams is HARD! It's 90 min of the same 26 postures in the same order every time you go and the heat is on. While Bikram himself claims this is a beginner class, it is hard to imagine someone walking in off the street and being able to complete a full class. I also go to non-Bikram studios and while I was not a fan of the SAME postures, I have grown to acknowledge that every time you go, you can get something out of this class. Any instructor who is programmed that "this is way to do it and no other way exists" is not a true teacher, IMO. I have found Bikram trained instructors to often be in this mold, but after awhile they mellow out. Any yoga class instructor that is insensitive to students is not worth going to class with. There is no real "mindful" teaching in Bikrams, only the physical. Other types of yoga offer more mind, body and soul training than Bikrams, but if you want a physically hard workout this is it for sure. read more
