Yoga Shanti's teacher trainings exceeded all of my expectations!!  I participated mostly online with a few weekends at the studio and still felt seen, heard, understood, and valued.    The program supported my growth based on the overall program goals and also my own personal goals.  The structure of the program's faculty & staff gave students broad perspective on the variety of topics presented, access to experts in asana, pranayama, yogic philosophy, anatomy, and so many other topics.  The organization of the overall course schedule, the homework, supplemental resources, and replay videos of the live sessions made the training efficient, accessible, and easy to get the most out of the program.   Yoga Shanti has created the most supportive, inclusive, authentic community in which I have ever been privileged to belong.  I felt uniquely valued and cared for, yet at the same time watched every student experience that same level of connection and support.  The mentors were a pivotal part of the program, helping ensure that we understood key concepts, meeting with us one-on-one to address our specific concerns, and overall helping to navigate all aspects of both the training itself and our development.  Final teaching assignments were thoughtfully tailored toward each individual to highlight both areas in which we were strong and areas in which we needed to spend enhance our knowledge and skillsets.   The class environment encouraged learning and trying skills outside our comfort zones.  Critique was always given with love because they saw our potential and wanted to help us grow.  The space was truly safe to try and fail knowing that we had the support to learn from our mistakes and try again.   I cannot say enough positive things about this program!  Participating in both the 200 and 300-hour trainings have been some of the best decisions I have ever made. read more

Absolutely loved the Saturday morning 8am class with Rodney. I was visiting a friend in Southampton and she was nice enough to share one of her sessions with me while I was in town. Highly recommend this establishment. The class was completely full and you are VERY close to one another so if you do not like that then this is not the place for you. Book your class ahead and arrive early. The class was not too difficult, all levels could take this class. read more

First thing to know about Colleen and Rodney (and all the unique teachers at YS) is that they're the real deal. I walked into class tonight an anxious, crazy wreck, in a state of terror, really, about a work situation too lengthy and complicated to explain...but even during class, I was uncomfortable and resistant, I was hating the poses, everything felt wrong...until, the end of class when we did relaxation with bolsters...it suddenly all fell away...all the fear and worry and thoughts I'd felt controlled by, were gone. I left feeling utterly peaceful and at ease...to think that you can enter a yoga class in one state of mind, and leave (in a little over an hour), a COMPLETELY new person is nothing short of a miracle. Of course, you need to do it all over again--and soon--to keep the cra-cra at bay, which is why people have daily yoga practices. I'm not there yet, but... What I love about Rodney and Colleen is that their classes are always different. You're never going to get the same teaching, or do the same movements, and sometimes it's uncomfortable, but it's important discomfort because it often yields the most unexpected and beautiful results...tonight, case in point. C & R are real and genuine in their approach, each in their own way, and are always growing--that constantly comes through in their teaching. Yoga saved me...again. Thank you, Rodney and Colleen. Hands down the best yoga studio ever. Rodney and Colleen are masters of the practice and it's a privilege to be able to practice here. I always leave feeling stronger, de-stressed and a bit wiser about how to think about things. Meaning, they incorporate philosophies into the practice, so the mind gets a workout with the body, but in a good way. The studio is clean and calming. Reception is always so friendly. Love this peaceful getaway. I work in watermill and welcome the 20 minute serene drive through the windy "backroads". Plenty of parking. I purchase res online. Had to cancel once and charge was refunded no problem. Always have instructors that know how to talk you thru and explain how to maximize the pose at a great comfortable pace if You're not a "yogi" (usually go to beginners) never had to wait to get in or out. read more

Classes for everyone, but Rodney's class is always too crowded and is intimidating if you don't look already fit and gorgeous, and I'm not over weight... Good yoga for beautiful people. Alex is an amazing instructor and her class is quite small. read more

If you want to be squished among way to many beautiful people - this is the yoga for you. I realize it's a popular scene but to put so many people in one room to do yoga seems counterintuitive- not relaxing; unable to concentrate on breathe when people are inches from you. Also, the whole scene was the antithesis of yoga- a clique-y atmosphere where if you didn't know the teacher or a ton of other people - you felt like an outsider. That being said, if the actual class was good I could've looked beyond the above. But the class was way too simple and easy- I barely broke a sweat (which is odd considering how many people were there). Colleen seemed a bit on auto pilot and didn't seem to connect w the room. Im new to yoga and not very good at it- if it was easy for me, it was waay too easy. read more

I started practicing yoga around 1991. I had the good fortune of one of my moms friends giving me a copy of light on yoga by iyengar. I soaked it up. And how blessed am i to live in this small town where master teachers have set up a beautiful little studio with a golden ceiling. I read all the other yelp reviews, some snarky and negative about how there is an "inner circle" and so on and so forth. If you feel that way, I ask you to go humbly and practice. The love and joy of yoga is there at yoga shanti waiting for you - but maybe it won't all be handed to you on day one on a silver platter. read more

I drove from the city to take a class with Colleen . The class way too packed . I think they were above the max capacity allowed . I stayed literally 10 minutes as it was impossible for me (and others ) to follow the class . I was stuck by the wall ...sweet .... as I was walking out passably pissed , the receptionist let me know that I could not be refunded for the class.I told him that having so many people in a studio was pure non-sens to me .he told me that it was the way they did Yoga in The Hamptons...ha ha ha . Keep not stretching too much, beautiful people ! This is certainly the place to be seen ,not the one to practice real Yoga . Stay away from those money suckers !.needless to say I won't ever come back,and I ll keep on doing Yoga the Queens' way . read more

Just arrived after a very long flight from California and wanted to take a yoga class to unwind my body A friend told me about Shanti and I drove into the parking lot to inquire about the classes they had for today I was greeted with a finger telling me that I cannot park I continue to pull into the lot and as I got out of the car the manager shamus said I cannot park there. I said I was referred to this place as a good place for yoga in the Hamptons and was coming in to see what classes they had to offer today and his response was " what do you want to know ???!!!" Needless to say it will be the last place I would ever do yoga having this experience I have been practicing for over 15 years and have done yoga around the world and never been greeted with such rudeness and animosity Namaste read more

I own Rodney's older videos which I really like a lot and I was super excited to take an actual class. I haven't taken a non-Kundalini Yoga class in years. I must say today's class was the worst yoga class I have even taken in my life we were sardines without a spiritual moment at all, after an hour he said the word breath. Really? He must have said the words hamstrings, groin and quadriceps 1000 times, maybe that is a new form of meditation. read more

A beautiful studio that is the zen place to see and be seen in sag harbor. Rodney and Colleen's classes are packed and you'll be surrounded by strangers within half an inch of your body. If you're claustrophobic or not into having your neighbors touch you, avoid or take an adivan. The classes are fun but not a workout. If you are looking for a calorie burning activity, this is not for you. If you want to be in a beautiful space and namaste with the real housewives of New York, this is your spot. read more

Went for the first time today, to one of the Saturday open classes. Sian was great, funny and a little demanding. Will return.

I actively attend yoga classes. I workout regularly and I am healthy, in shape, and was experienced enough for a class I signed up for a few weeks ago. I already felt somewhat of a pretentious vibe in the classroom upon entering at my first visit at yoga shanti. I ignored it and just carried on with my practice. I had done a few of the poses the opposite way (left instead of right or vice versa) just on accident because sometimes that happens. The instructor came up to me and asked me "you're not pregnant are you?" Loudly in front of everyone. I literally couldn't believe my ears. I was mortified. I certainly do not look pregnant in any way. I am 125 lbs, and I definitely don't have a protruding stomach of any sort. But I guess this instructor thought I did. She contested "oh I just asked you that because you were turning the opposite way". If I were pregnant, you would know. How rude. I won't be going back here again. She really ruined the rest of my class. read more

The classes that I have attended with Rodney or Colleen have been challenging physically in a positive way and quite inspiring in an insightful way. Having a room full of enthusiastic yoga students brings a wonderful energy to the space. I am not a young spring chicken anymore, yet I feel very welcomed and there are enough assistants to get around for adjustments, making sure your postures are properly aligned! I feel very fortunate to have Rodney as a teacher- someone that I have held in high regard since my college days! Colleen is a breath of fresh air and the two are bringing so much to the community to help us all feel more grounded and at peace. They certainly extend themselves philanthropically, as well! read more
