I'll admit that caught me off guard at first. But it didn't take long to realize every correction and every push comes from a place of genuinely caring whether her students get better. She notices everything, remembers where you were last week, and expects you to show up for yourself. As a postpartum mom, that was exactly what I needed. It's easy to tell yourself you're too tired or that your body isn't what it used to be. Petrina doesn't let you settle for that story, and she's proven me wrong about my own limits again and again. That's exactly why I've made more progress here than anywhere else I've practiced. My strength, flexibility, and endurance in the heat have all improved, and so has my mental toughness. Some days the hardest part of class is the voice in your own head telling you to quit, and Petrina is the louder voice telling you that you can do it. I've seen a few reviews calling her "harsh." I'd call her honest. She treats her students like capable adults who came to work, and she holds them to that. If you want to be challenged and actually see results, take her class. I pair her Pilates with Francisco's yoga classes, and he's been just as important to my progress. I'm here three to four days a week, and the studio makes that easy. The schedule has a class for almost any day, and the range of offerings lets me mix hot Pilates and yoga without the week getting repetitive. The room is clean and truly hot, and the community is welcoming. Nine months in, I'm still coming back, and that says it all. Plan to arrive early in case you have to park across the street. My main issues are with the strict membership policy and the crowdedness inside the studio. Most instructors are talented not only in their practice but in teaching their students. I learn and follow best by seeing a demonstration not just listening to a lecture. I had an instructor that just used the mic to give directions without showing us. One class resembled a karaoke session which was fun the first couple songs but it was dark and I couldn't see beyond the bodies next to me (they're closer than you think btw). I wasn't sure if I was using the correct form, where the instructor was, or what we were supposed to be doing. Fine for the advanced yogis but leaving us beginners lost. Overall I enjoy attending most classes here. A big issue is it's so crowded. During class you're almost on top of each other so much so that they have to stagger who bends where. The walkways get so congested and I didn't even take a chance with the locker rooms bc the people in there looked like sardines. I see so many studios other than Ra popping up left and right that it would probably benefit them to open up more locations.

We start warming up our body by tapping our dahn-jon, (under the belly button) to increase our energy core. We do a blend of Tai Chi, Qigong, wooden pillow, sleeping tiger, stretching, etc. Every tapping or movement has a healing meridian and purpose for our body and our brain. Master Laura, Master Jeanette, and Instructor Grace gently guide us and remind us to breathe and exhale (which sometimes I forget). After meditation and closing exercises, I feel content and relaxed, ready to share that feeling with other people and have a joyful day. Whenever possible I take weekend workshops and special trainings in Mago Garden (US headquarters) in Sedona, AZ . There're also videos online and books written by Founder Ilchi Lee to help us grow more as human being.
