Oh and it's very good. So we went this evening. No reservation as I think is suggested. There was a large group of people, a table of four, and a table of two on the main floor. We were seated in the upper area, not on the main floor. We're OK with that. There are about four two-seaters on this level. Ernesto Jr. came by and explained the three specials offered this evening. The menu lists about a dozen different sauces that can top the dish you order. They all sound delicious. I had the Steak San Antonio. This is a filet of tenderloin covered in avocado butter (so good) with an enchilada of your choice, rice and beans. Served with a basket of freshly baked French bread. The husband had a seafood combo: shrimp, lobster, snapper stuffed with lump crab served with rice. His was topped with the Veracruz sauce and another selected by Ernesto. Fabulous. The food has flavor. Tons of flavor. The service is spot on. Ernesto comes by first, talks to you, makes suggestions and then takes your order. The rest of the staff takes over from here. Delivers your food, keeps up with refills, clears the table, brings the bill. This is a well-run process. We had ceviche to start. The husband is not a big fan, so I ate the majority. I enjoyed it very much. When we left, Ernesto came outside to thank us for coming. That doesn't happen at most places. The truly personal touch. Give this restaurant a try if you haven't already.

This intimate, locally owned establishment had a warm welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff. The food was well balanced with soft deep flavors combining Ernesto's smooth, savory signature sauces over perfect portions of meat and vegetables. I decided on the surf and turf special in a light buttery citrus sauce. It was fabulous! I didn't want to finish because then it would be gone. I had to try a desert after dinner was such a success and, oh am I glad I did. I ordered Ernesto's desert which this evening was a crepe in a delicate caramel sauce with fresh almond slivers garnish. We also tried the fresh cinnamon ice cream recommended by Chef. You can tell from the food, to the service, to the owner greeting the patron name, these owners care!! Definitely one of the most enjoyable meals I have has in a while!

I'm not sure if they advertise way too soon or if they just weren't prepared, but they were definitely understaffed. We waited over an hour just to be seated, and the whole experience went downhill from there. The bar area was literally EMPTY, so I asked if we could sit at the bar while we waited for our table. Nope. They wouldn't allow it. So we just stood around waiting while an entire empty bar sat there unused. Then our food finally started coming out... and unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait. One of the empty dishes they placed on our table had a HAIR in it. The food also looked WAY better in the videos I saw online than what actually showed up at our table. The chicharrón/pork belly was dry, the guacamole portion was noticeably smaller than expected, and one dish came out so late that everyone else was basically finished eating. Unlike what is stated in other reviews, the food is described in english. Unfortunately, there are some items that don't translate. Those are the ones I needed help with. We both ended up ordering the same thing. It was lengua in a delicious tomato sauce served with french fries, avocado slices, white rice, salad, and a fried plantain patty. The amount of food on the plates was absolutely outrageous, but we managed to get pretty danged close to clean plates. The flavors were really nice. There was a huge squeeze bottle of Salsa Colombiana (I think that's what he called it) and another with Salsa tartara, the Columbian version of tartar sauce. It was amazing. It was creamy and savory without that sweet pickle taste American folk put on seafood. For drinks, I had a jugo de pina. My son had one made with passion fruit. I heard them being made fresh in the kitchen. They blended the fresh fruit with some water or milk and ice. Mine was really refreshing. It was served in those giant iced tea glasses some places use. There was a lady and her son at another table. I listened as they ordered in Spanish. They asked almost the same questions as we did, so being fluent in Spanish must not mean you would understand the Colombia specific food vocabulary. As we were paying our bill, the lady was pointing to everything on her plate asking "What is this?" in Spanish. I found that a little humorous, as the explanations when ordering were pretty good. My son and I had not problems recognizing the foods on our plate based on what we had heard. On our way home, we passed by the Bandera location. My son pointed it out to me. I don't remember ever seeing it there, but my son says he knew about it. That made me wonder why we frequented the competitor on Tezel where we like the food, but felt uncomfortable being packed in so close in the tiny dining room. In the truck, my son was already telling me what he planned to eat next time. There will definitely be a next time. I need to try their arepas and empanadas, as well as some other jugos.
