The park…read moreoffers a peaceful escape with beautiful river views and plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. Our hike was both fun and refreshing, and it gave us a glimpse of just how much this park has to offer. One of the highlights was discovering the variety of trails--each one winding through different landscapes and offering unique perspectives of the river and surrounding forest. That said, we've only scratched the surface. With so many trails still left to explore, it feels like we've only had a taste of the adventure waiting here. We also had the chance to tour the lodge, which was a fascinating stop. It shared the history of the site in an engaging way and offered interactive exhibits that were perfect for kids. It added an extra layer of fun and learning to our visit, making the experience even more memorable. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for hiking, family outings, and reconnecting with nature. We're already looking forward to coming back and experiencing more of the trails and activities we didn't get to this time.

This trail is going on my bookmarks…read more I had a great time hiking the 2 trails at Island Ford Park today. It was clean, well-maintained and peaceful with a lovely creek and lots of shade. Dog friendly and great for hiking alone or in a group, I highly recommend visiting the park in the evening. Trail #1 goes under Highway 400, so does get a bit noisy. Trail #2 goes through the Hewlett Lodge Visitor Center and is a good spot to picnic and take breaks. Each trail is about 3 miles to & fro and take roughly an hour or so each to complete them. There are no restrooms in the Island Ford Unit entrance so plan accordingly if you enter from that entrance. Parking is $5/day or free with the Annual pass or America the beautiful pass. Amenities: Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking, pet waste stations & picnic tables

This review is for the playground area only. The first time I came here, I made the mistake of…read moreparking along Crabapple Road to try to find the playground. From there, you have to walk around the lake, then through the recreation center to the "almost other side" of the park to get to the playground. You can drive south the the entrance and park along the street or one of the small parking lots much closer to the playground. That said, the space is great! It is large and spread out. There is a covered pavilion and lots of other seating in the form of benches. There are 4 distinct areas, with swings in multiple areas. The slides are high and large and there is a zip line and spinning cage item that is a bog hit with the kids. The ambiance with the tall tress brings this playground home for a 5-star review!

Mountain Park is a city within a city. It is a city that borders Roswell and Cherokee county with a…read moretotal area of 0.5 square miles with a population of about 550 people. It is zones to be a wildlife refuge so no commercial or businesses are allowed in the city limits. I found this charming little place when I google Little Free Library. It said to turn on Wiley Bridge Road which is off of Highway 92 towards Roswell. I thought...oh it must be just right off of there...but as it took me further into the woods I had the distinct feeling of being trapped in a Stephen King's novel...Misery....came to mind...getting lost in the woods...it's getting dark...running out of gas...etc....as my imagination ran wild for a moment...something caught my attention. Something glisten to my left. It was the reflection of the morning sun dancing upon the surface of Lake Garrett and I realized I was going to be saved.... As I parked my car by city hall the most most beautiful Australian shepherd came running across the field. Her majestic fur flying in the wind likes jewels for the sky. Following behind her was a warm charming couple who said hello to me and begin chatting with me as if they've known me all of my life....the city hall itself like the town is small but full of character. It's probably about 800 sq. feet or so and looks like a cabin that Henry David Thoreau lived in. There is a little side porch with some comfortable wicker furniture and of course a sweet little free library filled with rather intellectual books...impressive...As I got out and walked around a bit I notice how friendly everybody was....People were waving at me and saying hello as they walked by....it was surreal and lovely. Now I want to move here....wonder how they feel about free range cats...
