Came here for the Harry Potter Forbidden Experience. It was amazing! It's a long walk but soo many experiences and immersive photo ops. You'll be there longer the allotted time it says. There's just so much to see and so much whimsy for any age Harry Potter fan! There's some british food like fish and chips. Some hot chocolate themed to the houses and some cute baked goods. Of course, there's butterbeer and you can get a souvenir cup! The savory food and butterbeer is at the stalls in the little village before you head into the trail. We stopped at The Melting Pot to get the hot chocolate and drinks like halfway through the trail. We got the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff hot chocolates. Ravenclaw was vanilla flavored and Hufflepuff was caramel. Hufflepuff tasted the best. We also got a Hedwig blondie and a Sorting Hat truffle. You bite into the truffle and then it shows you the color house you are sorted into. I got Hufflepuff. The Blondie was nice and soft but the treats are a blast of sugar. Just to warn you. The trail itself is soooo cool! If you are a Harry potter fan and can go, then you should. I don't wanna spoil a lot but you'll definitely be casting spells and feel the immersiveness. read more

I chaperoned a school trip. We stayed there for 2 days and 1 night. It's very pretty there. The team building activities were so much fun. The staff was wonderful especially Lana. She was very help whenever we needed anything. We needed to make some changes to our schedule and she was very nice and accommodating to us. She was fun and supportive with the kids. She was always on time to get us to our activities. We couldn't have asked for a better camp counselor. The cabin we stayed in was very nice and clean. My only complaint for the entire trip was the food. In prior years the food was very good and all the kids loved it but this year it was just ok. We were told that the cook quit a couple days before we got there. The staff did do an amazing job adjusting though and definitely did their best. They were even great at accommodating to our food allergies. We had 1 person that was gluten free and 2 with peanut allergies. The gluten free food was very good. I highly recommend sending your kids here or having your school trip at Camp Duncan. read more

What an awesome camp! My 9 year old loved the summer overnight camp. He made lots of friends, tried archery, swam in the indoor pool, did the big slip n slide, science experiments, campfires, and lots more. His only complaints were that he did a lot of walking (which was good for him), he had to wake up at 7am every day and he wanted to sleep in lol, and he said the bathrooms were stinky (to be expected with that many kids). The cabins and grounds are really nice. We will be back! As a bonus they post pictures daily for the parents to check in. read more

I would not recommend. During a week long overnight camp, my 9 yr old son was hit on the head with a rock and they considered stitches and a concussion and I was never even notified of the injury until I picked him up days later. He was left with a painful, sore contusion on his head about a half inch long. (Even days later, I couldn't even touch the area.) When I came to pick him up the counselor informed me of the injury and said that they thought he was going to "need stitches" it was "bleeding so bad"... though I was never called. In this day and age any type of head injury needs to be taken seriouly and a parent should be informed. While the camp has a nurse, a parent should always know if a child has been injured, end of story! read more

My children did not have a positive experience at Camp Duncan's day camp. 1) One of the Camp Counselors continously disregarded my child's feelings when they expressed their fears about the spiders they encountered during an activity. The same Counselor also dismissed my child's feelings after a serious injury - telling my child they would be ok instead of providing emotional support. 2) The camp failed to contact me or provide an incident report after my child's fall- which resulted in a chin contusion and multiple body scapes. 3) The camp disregarded my child's Inclusion Plan and told me their Inclusion Specialist was for the "other campers" when I questioned why the Inclusion Specialist wasn't not contacted to follow up on a behavioral incident. 4) My child continously heard some of the campers using derogatory language about minorities. Overall, my children felt some of the Counselors were immature and not receptive to the campers feelings. The swim sessions were very short and chaotic. I was deeply disappointed with my children's overall experience and do not plan to sign them up for future sessions. Camp Duncan claims safety is their number one priority - that's questionable when your child returns home with a swollen face and multiple scrapes/bruises without a heads up telephone call or incident report. read more

my name is leo, i was a camper for the final week of camp Duncan 2024. i was in purple martin and where do i even start. most of these counselors are on work visas from foreign countries and don't do jack ****. one of my friends got a gash on his arm and the counselor refused to go to the medical center. one of the counselors only watched TikTok the whole day in his bed. the only good counselor was Kyle who was chill and actually liked his job to help kids, unlike counselors like Lewis who only did it to get a free bed and food. a experience personal to me is when Lewis forced us to wake up early and go to bed early. we were awake at around 6 and Lewis made us get ready hours before breakfast so he could watch TikTok on his phone until breakfast instead of doing his job. the only good time at camp Duncan was at lakefront when our cabin would go chat in the lake were Lewis couldn't hear us talk **** about him. except he found a way to do just that. he would force us to separate from each other even though what we did was 100% allowed. except he technically didn't have the power to do that, we just didn't listen to him. when we got back to the cabin that night he forced us to be quiet for the rest of the day. lewis would also order fast food every night and chewed very loudly to be annoying. lewis would also take huge portions of the food leaving us with little. to sum it up, the experience of this camp could be good if the counselors actually gave a ****. and if lewis is reading this. fuck you read more

The YMCA was built on a message of everyone is welcome and a message of inclusion. Camp Duncan and it's staff are clearly not inclusive for everyone and they make that pretty clear to you. You would think at this day in age you could be who you want to be and a place like this wouldn't silence So disappointed that I brought my family to their camp and found out we weren't welcome to be who we are. read more

My family has a long history with Camp Duncan. My great uncles were campers and life guards here a very long time ago. I was lucky to experience Camp Duncan through the American Diabetes Association's Triangle D camp as both a camper, and later as a Councilor Assistant. Camp Duncan is an excellent camp! They are a proud American Camp Association accredited camp ground (this includes full background checks for staff). This campground is home to many summer camp programs, including the American Diabetes Association's Triangle D camp, IFSA Burn Camp "I Am Me", spina bifida camp, Obesity camp, and Tourette camp. The list continues to grow! Staffwise, Camp Duncan draws staff members from all over the world. This is a truly amazing melting pot! The campground is continuously being updated and upgraded. when i started as a camper, the high ropes course was brand new, and when I started as a CA new accessible cabins were being built! It was fun as a camper to return each year and be amazed by the changes and improvements. To say I recommend Camp Duncan would be a huge understatement. Camp Duncan has blessed me with many memories and experiences which have inspired and shaped my life! read more

I've been coming to camp for years and I must say I will never get sick of the feeling driving up and finding out what cabin your in. The staff is always so welcoming and accommodating to your needs. There are so many options of stuff to do at camp such as sports and rock climbing to the more laid back activities like arts at crafts to suit everyones personality. The grounds are beautiful and clean, except the shower house which due to there being a lack of ventilation it can get quite stinky but it's manageable I mean you are in the woods. The kitchen staff always makes wonderful food that keeps everyone's energy up for the adventures through the day. There is even camps very own fish lake which I know the kids love as they can go boating and blobbing which truly is one of camp Duncan's staples. But overall if you are looking for a camp local to you in Illinois or even in surrounding states check out camp duncan today for amazing memories that will last a lifetime! read more

Very poor experience. Our group booked this camp for the weekend. Staff is very unfriendly, they poorly setup the different activities, and were under staffed. Because they are under staffed activities were cancelled in inappropriate ways. I highly recommend your group look for other camp grounds. read more

I liked all the staff. Eveyrone was friendly. Not as many activites for winter campout as I would have liked - always a tough time. But have to say something like 1/3 of the participants got ill, assume from the food - or a random case of 1/3 of the folks on the campout suddenly came down sick the day after. Fell on black ice and fractured a bone in my foot and had to pay about 2 grand in medical bills, none of the employees there salted at all the whole weekend and they have been in business 95 years they should have known better, it happened as I was leaving Sunday Morning halfway between the cabin and the parking lot which also was not salted at all, the whole weekend, they are lucky I didn't sue them for personal injury on their property but it would be nice if the reimbursed me for the medical bills at least, I try to be a nice person and not ask but I am worried this will happen to someone else with their extreme negligence read more

We brought a group of 15 2nd and 3rd graders for their first overnight camping experience with Brownies. Camp Duncan was a fantastic choice. The staff was excellent at managing all the activities and we were able to focus on the kids, which we really needed to at this age. The cabin was spacious and clean. They were very willing to accomodate us food wise - even provide a gluten free option. We will probably head back next year! read more
