The drop off stresses me out. It is so rushed that we barely get a chance to say goodbye as 2 counselors are taking his stuff out of the car for him, another is ushering him to the field and another is talking to me to check him in and is asking for cards/gifts for him. Not even time for a quick picture and I got a surprised look from the counselor when I got out of the car for a hug. He went to Trout Creek last year as well and it was the same thing then. I sent an email to the office mid-year after receiving a newsletter from them with questions about why they have adopted this process and how cool it would be to actually be able to see the camp!! (No response back.) My kid isn't a big chatter, so we don't hear much about what happens. We rely on viewing the photos they post (thank you!) to learn more about the camp and see what it looks like. It is interesting that they let the kids pick their counselor and their cabin after check-in concludes. If that was figured out ahead of time and cabins were assigned, maybe other parts of check- in could be easier? I did see on their website this morning before drop off that they offered an open house on June 14 from 1-4pm. That's awesome!! A time families can come check out the camp. The only problem is I don't remember any notice of that in newsletters that were sent out or on the registration page. We would have loved to come! All this said, my kid had a great time at camp last year and wanted to come back. I just wish I could recommend the camp and the $350+/week price But without seeing the facilities or really meeting any of the staff - there isn't a lot to go on. Hopefully, I can do a review update soon with a better score!! I really do want this can to succeed and grow! No pictures because I couldn't take any!

Archery, survival skills, plant knowledge, blacksmithing, stealth tactics etc. And because I work a bit late, I also included the longer hours till 6pm. They are constantly learning the whole time. I would not recommend this facility for child care…read more The majority of the staff don't seem to enjoy children --there is no sense that the teachers actually enjoy children. We found the staff to be rather rigid in their teaching & discipline styles. They don't seem to be able to adapt to a specific child's needs. They are frequently understaffed. Always sending out messages to get parents to "volunteer" to skip school/pick up the kids after they've been dropped off. They offer you "credit" if you do this, but the "credit" is significantly less than their daily rate...so essentially you are paying them so you can watch your own kid?!? And if they don't get enough volunteer pick ups, they'll just close classrooms, meaning you can't come to school/you have to pick up your kid after drop off AND you don't get any compensation at all--you are paying them full price so that you can watch your own child. Heaven help you if your kiddo ends up in a class with one of the director's / teacher's kids. They let those kids run wild and pretty much run the classroom. The directors clearly favor a couple staff members over others. That whole situation is super awkward to be peripherally involved in and observe. It reminds me of mean girls in high school...so awkward and not something to appreciate having to see when I'm paying this much for allegedly professional care givers. The cost of enrollment is astonishingly high, even compared to other facilities. They don't do anything there to justify a higher price point--they don't have better staffing ratios, don't offer more activities or provide better food. On top of that, you are expected to help cater a seemingly endless number of meals for teacher appreciation. The formal "teacher appreciation week" consisted of several breakfasts and lunches and the food requests were bizarrely specific. There are several more times throughout the year that you are expected to help cater meals for staff. Overall, I felt that this facility treats the kids as economic units. Their priority is making money, that's it. The facility is clean. Sometimes they have good teachers, but usually the good ones leave within ~12 mos, likely due to the toxic environment. I have heard from others that the care is better for the babies (like up to 18 mos or so). I don't have experience with that at Goddard.

I first learned of Journey through a friend when my daughter was just a toddler. Her first…read moreencounter was watching the shows, which she absolutely loved! All the shows are top notch productions--my mother has said that they exceed her expectations for what she would expect at the 5th Avenue. The best part is that all shows are cast with students from the program. When our daughter turned 6, she begged to join the Journey Troupers. She has not missed a class or camp since in the last 5 years. A veteran family of seven shows now, we are hooked. This is the most interesting and challenging volunteer work I've participated in--I have learned and grown as much as my daughter. The staff is amazing and all the families and volunteers are pulling for one another. The classes teach students foundational and advanced skills alongside what it means to be a good citizen and team player. It is a magnificent confidence builder for any child. Because the students cast and crew all of the productions during the year, even the most stage shy kids can play a role backstage or onstage. I'm so glad we found Journey and look forward to many more years to come.

It was my privilege to serve on EFC's leadership retreat team for several years, and we have the utmost respect for the camp's full-time staff and board of directors. I just got off the phone with my oldest grandson, who is flying up from Phoenix, AZ this weekend for his week at camp. He's so excited! We couldn't be more thankful.
