My teenage boys did the week long ski camp at Windells and it's hard to express how amazing it was. All the staff were great, but in particular their coaches, Will F and Alex B, were awesome. They took a ton of pictures and sent them to us. They taught them new tricks, encouraged them to try new things, and helped to make sure they stayed safe. My son had an absolute blast here. The coaches are legit -- knowledgeable, patient, and actually cool in a way that made my shy kid open up and push himself. The glacier skiing is unreal. It's not every day you get to ski in the middle of summer with that kind of scenery. Off the hill, the camp keeps the energy going with trampolines, skate parks, and dryland training. Meals were solid, lodging was clean, and the whole thing ran like a well-oiled ski wax station. Staff were organized, safety-focused, and clearly knew what they were doing. Only downside? Your kid will come home sunburned, sore, and already begging to go back next year. If your kid loves skiing and you want them to improve while having the time of their life -- this is the place. read more

My 10 year old spent a week here, and its amazing. It has like 10 acres of concrete skate park, they go ski at Timberline every day, and the coaches are great. My kid said that his coach, Cam, was his favorite ski coach ever. He definitely kept the stoke high and sent tons of videos to the parents. The coaches were so patient and so encouraging. I sent my two sons there and their coaches were Connor and Flynn. My kids loved each of them and are dying to go back to camp next year for longer than a week. My 12-year-old learned a bunch of new tricks, including a backflip and my 11 year-old got much more confident on the rails. The athletic Director, Elijah, was also really helpful. The kids were busy from Dan until bedtime and apparently went to sleep. Happy and exhausted every night. They flew on accompanied and the pick up and drop off by camp or seamless. I was pretty nervous before putting them on the plane, but we are thrilled with how the week went. Definitely recommend this camp! read more

My 13 year old son loves Windells! Started off as a day camper several years ago and had SO much fun skiing he asked to go back the next summer as an overnight camper. Headed back this June for his fourth summer. He comes home having learned new skills "sick tricks" on the hill and exhausted by all the fun. The coaching is spot on, the indoor trampoline (supertramp) is "epic" and skateboarding around campus is a big highlight. Meeting like minded and skilled skiers from near and far tops off the whole Windells experience. Definitely recommend! read more

BEWARE!! My son was traumatized by this camp. They managed to turn his absolute love and desire to go skiing into loathing and hate. He shared with me daily stories of coaches yelling at him when he made simple mistakes on the slopes. The fear with which he tells me about this camp is palpable and real. Even now, a week later, he wakes up in the middle of the night in cold sweats from nightmares about this camp. He called me from camp during panic attacks crying and breathing uncontrollably. Fellow campers bullied and beat him on multiple occasions. As far as I can tell, the counselors hardly supervise the kids - I saw through FaceTime the atrocious living facilities with clothes, gear, and food strewn over the floors and counselors passed out on couches. Lunches consist of ham and cheese sandwiches and dinners are so inedible that mine ended up getting most his sustenance from camp store chips. They do have a nice skate park and nice terrain park, but it is not worth it for the shock and trauma my son experienced here. I feel shame and regret for sending my child to this camp and also for not taking him out early. BEWARE!! read more

Windells has been a Summer highlight for my kids the past couple of years. The level of coaching is high and tailored well to the different levels of each kid. They have loved getting to connect with industry reps and meet kids who share their interests in extreme sports. The staff provide needed guardrails and supervision that prioritize safety and respect and balances personal expression. The one thing the kids hope for this year is more and a bit better food choices. That aside, kids can't wait to be back in June. read more

This place has really improved and was a completely different experience than just a few years ago. The campus looks amazing. The remodeled housing is clean and simple, perfect for a ton of teenage boys. The supervision is also greatly improved. I love the no cell phones after bedtime rule, even if my camper did not. The staff member at the front gate was also a welcome improvement. read more

I wanted to sign up for a snowboarding camp to improve my park skills, since I've been boarding for about 4 years and while I am decent on the mountain have zero skills doing jumps, rails and boxes. I did some research focusing on the summer snowboard camps in Portland, and I am so glad I went to Windell's! Windell's vs. High Cascade vs. Mt. Hood Snowboard Camp - Windell's is supposedly more well rounded and less snobby than High Cascade. It's a mixture of BMX, snowboarders, and skateboarders. - Age range at Windell's is younger, HC is supposedly a little older on average - High Cascade is slightly more expensive per session (around $100-200). Not sure what amentities are different but I believe they both offer unlimited free demo rentals. - Windell's has a private park, but they don't put up all the features in the earlier sessions. - High Cascade is closer to the mountain (they stay at Government Camp which is about 10 minutes away, Windell's is about 30 minutes away). - Mt Hood Ski Camp looks really ghetto. Windell's Pros/Cons (I only visited Windell's, so here are some pros and cons from an adult perspective). PROS: - COACHING: You get coaching and mentorship from a variety of people, including pro snowboarders and Danger Dave! I was lucky to come early in the season and get one on one coaching from alot of different people. It's cool that they do video review sessions at the end of the day, recapping what you did well and could improve on. - PEOPLE: The kids, employees, and coaches were all really supportive. Everyone was really friendly. They try to keep everyone busy with activities, give aways (I got so much free swag!), and planned adult activities (1 day in Portland to explore the food and nightlife). - BOB / Rentals: Bob is the name of their newly built indoor skate park and trampoline (plus foam pit). I had no idea how much fun trampolining is, and how important it is to train on this to improve your balance in jumps and flips. Free skateboard / helmet rentals. Free bike rentals and demos. Loved that I could wax my board for free every day! - SWAG: Windell's partners with different snowboard/ski brands, and they provide free goodies and giveaways to boost their brand, and encourage kids to learn and push themselves more. I won a variety of cool things like face masks, beanies, tshirts, and even a snowboard. Gnarly and Apo sponsored our session. CONS: - FOOD: I was expecting a little more than run of the mill cafeteria food. It's tough to feed alot of people, but it was clear the food was run on a budget, and geared towards little kids who don't care about food, quality, taste, or health. They provide breakfast, lunch (pack your own sandwich), and dinner. Adults get to make grocery runs. - LODGING: I can't imagine how crowded it would be during a full session because ours was cramped and yet only at 50% capacity. The rooms are small and have about 2 bunk beds (sleeps 4). The adult camp grounds were as basic as you could get (kinda cold, dingy, and dirty). I do have to point out that they USED to have a hot tub (it broke), they have a legit grill, TV/DVD player, and pool table. This isn't really a con, but I wish there were more adults, and perhaps a more even spread of skill level. I've been boarding for 4 years, never hit the park, and so I was definitely the worst of all 50 campers. That's not something Windell's could control, I think it's more of a culture thing, as there are many returning campers (who are very young). I was on the fence about dropping $2k on 6 days, but Windell's was a great experience that I would recommend to everyone. Despite the cons, I would come back at a drop of a hat. read more

Windells Camp is truly the "funnest" place on earth and is hands down the best summer camp out there! It's huge campus has endless things do to - wooden indoor and concrete outdoor skate parks, trampolines, a foam pit, a dry slope with rails and an on campus ramp into an airbag! The campus facilities are world class and the staff made me feel right at home. They have snowboard, skateboard, ski or bmx camps for kids and adults. I got to shred the sickest terrain park on Mt. Hood in the day and skate the campus at night. What more could I ask for? Guaranteed you will have the summer of your life. I have been there for the last two summers and am planning on going back again this year. So much snow on Hood, so stoked! read more

If you want your kid exposed to hardcore pornography, violence, and extreme bullying, the is the PERFECT camp for you. The staff is totally out to lunch and has no sense of what might be even vaguely appropriate for younger kids. They do not care and they have no interest in instructing your kid in their sport as well. ANYONE can access the grounds and cabins. No one is checking who anyone is or why they are there. You can walk right in to any cabin. There is a sign at the front saying you must sign in, but no-one is enforcing it in any way. My son's cabin had boys ranging in age 9-13. A couple of the older boys started watching hardcore porn on their phones on the first evening. My son and his friend from home decided they weren't really down. Each night all the other boys would pile into one of the two rooms and watch. My son and his friend slept in the other room. The noise from all the enthusiasm made it difficult to sleep at all. I have no idea what the cabin counselor could have been doing or how he couldn't know. Because my son and his friend weren't into the porn, all the other boys started calling them "fa_s" and Pu__y" and all kind of other nonsense. This happened in full view and ear shot of counselors frequently. They did nothing. The camp makes claims to "daily intensive coaching from skilled instructors." A total joke. The skateboarding instructors can't be bothered to interrupt their own skating to give even the slightest bit of instruction. Even persistent and specific requests for tips are met with next to nothing. Cabins are totally disgusting. Hour 1 of day 1 when we dropped our son, the cabin stank to high heaven and was filthy. Shower was completely filthy, Bathroom reeked of urine, no toilet paper or hand soap at the sink. They just truly don't give a rip about your kid. They'll happily take your money though. This place needs to do some real soul searching. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. There was a dodgeball game with High cascade vs Windells. Three of the windells staff purposefully broke a key rule and then disobeyed the ref. The staff continued to ram into the High cascade campers. Multiple High Cascade campers were pushed and punched and elbowed, some drew blood, some sent to the nurse. one high cascade camper had his shirt ripped by a windells staff member, and the staff member was very very proud of his damage. Meanwhile, the windells campers threw fruit at the High Cascade campers leaving welts and bruises. read more

This school may be teaching kids how to skate but they are not teaching them skatepark etiquette! They snake in completely out of control right in front of other skaters narrowly missing several children and a dog. Even after being asked to give the little kids some space because they were in a beginners class their whole mindset was we're gonna skate hard however we want and fuck over anyone else there - way to go Windells! read more

My son (age 9) was taking a skate class through THPRD when some vans from Windells showed up. About 50ish older kids and adults got out and took over the skate park, there are 2 skate parks at the thprd location one smaller that we were at and that was RESERVED for this class and a bigger one. The students and adults were cutting off the little kids during the class and nearly knocking them over. One of the moms asked several of the Windells skaters to just please watch out for the little ones and when they refused and continued to cut them off her and I went up to one of the adults that seemed to be a teacher or leader at Windells. The other mom very nicely said "if you could please just watch out for the little kids or go the the other side of the skate park we would appreciate it" The man looked at her and said "UMM NO" I said sir this is suppose to be reserved for this class and our younger kids have been cut off and lost their balance because you guys arent watching where youre going" His response was "FUCK OFF' I was shocked and appalled If this is the way the adults at Windells are acting what sort of example are they setting for your children while they are there. Later a Thprd employee came and explained to them that the skate park was reserved and they acted like no one had mentioned this to them and they had no idea. These skaters were so reckless and careless of the little kids at one point the man who told us to "fuck off" lost control of his board and it went flying at me he also came screeching by the other mom almost hitting her dog! We were sitting on the benches designated for observers so no excuse for that. I hope whoever is in charge at Windells reads this and has a class or talk with the staff and students about being respectful of other skaters. I take my son to several other skate parks around the area and the high school kids are always looking out for him and taking turns dropping in so they dont hurt or run into each other it just blows me away that the Adults at windells wouldn't show the same courtesy as high school teenagers read more
