Stewed pork belly with preserved vegetables
    Steve B.

Visited on a Friday evening. The place was bustling and packed so we had to wait a while for a table for four. The menu is quite unlike your standard Chinese restaurant and is an adventure in 'Chinese' Chinese food, as opposed to 'westernised' Chinese food. Lots of colourful pictures and interesting sounding dishes. It took ages to decide what to get so to some extent it was trial and error since there was so much that was unfamiliar to me but lots of dishes that I wanted to try. The range of dishes covers Hunanese, Sichuan, and Cantonese with the Cantonese items being more familiar and the Hunan and Sichuan items being more unusual and interesting. Lots of seafood dishes also on the menu with choice of simple preparation (black bean, ginger and spring onion etc). I opted for stewed pork belly with preserved vegetables from the Hunan section. Thin slices of super tender and flavourful pork belly (think of bacon Chinese style but stewed rather than fried) on a bed of finely chopped and full of flavour preserved veg that had a flavour of soy with perhaps black bean / yellow bean...not sure. Sounds a bit unusual but it was great. Coupled with some garlicky choy sum and steamed rice it was perfect for me. Since I also ate a good deal of my dining partners' dishes including the more familiar crispy duck and pancakes, dan dan noodles and beancurd dishes, I couldn't finish all of my pork belly dish but happily they boxed it up for me and made for a tasty lunch the next day. I was so intrigued by the menu I am looking forward to going back to try more... The waiters were friendly and the owner came over for a chat. Extra points for doing something different, achieving high standards and for going for bold and interesting dishes.

Classic case of don't judge a book by its cover. On the outside, it looks like a typical neighbourhood Chinese eatery: bad decor, uninspired furniture, focus on takeaway. I'm sure the takeaway is true, given how many times the helmeted delivery guy came in and out but the food and service was much much better than expected. Twice cooked pork was yummy and fabulous dolloped on top of a bowl of rice. Dried fried beef with chiles and cumin was fragrant and delicious. Cold Sichuan chicken was oily but in a good way and came paired with slivered cucumber to cool down the chiles. The only disappointment was the blanched spinach with sesame sauce, which was cloying, thick and overwhelming against the delicate greens. Appetisers did not come out first so best to specify if you want this. Service was friendly and helpful. Overall, a good meal, especially given that it was located on a residential street in Angel!

I felt like roast Beijing duck. But they ran out of duck menu except for stewed duck at that time.I ordered dumplings , stewed duck and pork soup. Some of them were a little bit spicy. I liked that their menu list had all pictures each which is quite helpful. I couldn't finish it all so I asked for taking it away. I would definitely dine there again!!

Good chinese food option north of Angel. Takeout available. Friendly staff. Not fancy but the food is good and I'll be going back.

We also had the dry fried green beans with chilis and ground pork, and the dan dan noodles, both of which were super flavorful, I'd order everything again.

Food wise, I wouldn't it is the best Chinese I have ever been to but it's very good food and worth going if you want upscale Chinese without the crazyness of central London/Chinatown. We shared for starters the spicy sechuan aurbergine (a must order), mushroom buns (as nice as the ones from aWong) deep fried green beans (also a must) and the crispy duck ( Im never a fan but aWong and Kym's probably have the best ones and amazing plum sauce) For mains we tried the three treasure (soya chicken, iberico pork char sui and crispy pork). I think my favourite was the crispy pork. Its a good way of tasting all the rotisserie but if you are super hungry I would recommend ordering 2 of the rotisserie separetely. As for desserts, we tried the Pineapple bun and the cherry ice cream both lovely. Awong is definitly the king of custard. although I think the custard bun from aWong just beat everything lolol.

Victoria set the stage and steered me to a sampling that did not disappoint. Egg roll - not your typical egg roll, enshrined in a crispy rice shell, lightly fried to perfection, accompanied by a tangy sweet dipping delight. Followed by the mushroom steamed buns, and capped off by the most spectacular pork and shrimp boa boa, perfectly spicy, fully satisfying, a work of art. The service was spectacular and matched the experience. Make this a stop on your foodie tour of London.

It is an unassuming little Chinese take away place squashed between a men's barber shop and a second hand watch store and until I stopped in front of it by chance, I thought the barber shop and watch shop were direct neighbours! When I walked in I instantly thought of 2 films: 'Big Trouble in Little China' and 'Blade Runner'. Why? Honestly, I couldn't put my finger on it but I think it was because this is a tiny, teeny, place that looks family run and authentic. Not sure what I'm babbling on about here, I'll just get to the food... They have a lunch menu that is just £6, for which you get a starter and a main course with your choice of boiled or egg fried rice or noodles. The food is cooked freshly in front of you, is quite copious and tastes pretty damn good. I can thoroughly recommend the prawn sesame toast as a starter. Oh, important to mention that they have trouble getting more than 3 customers in the place at a time, be ready for a tight fit while you wait. A good take away lunch spot for those not wanting to settle for a sandwich, crisps and a can of pop - let's face it, that will cost you more than £6 at lunch in this part of town!

All the food is prepared to order and I ws disappointed to not be able to see into the kitchen. However, when it arrived it was yummy! I went with the Singapore Laksa, which is a yellow curry coconut sauce with noodles, shrimp, sliced potatoes and tofu puffs. Absolutely delicious in a massive bowl, it was really warming on a cold day. Really inexpensive, even with a small bottle of Perrier, my meal was £6 (~$10). They also seem to serve the usual Asian stuff too - I saw tables with fried rice and other noodle dishes. Tight seating, but that was okay with me. I would absolutely return!
