I originally told her I wanted a more natural sweet look during my make up trial session and showed her my initial thinking/inspiration for hair. She captured exactly what I wanted and surprised me with her creativity in hair styling too. She took a great number of pics to share with me and asked me to think about the makeup style, types of eyelashes, etc. She could adjust anything to my taste as she is very versatile and professional in different kinds of makeup/hair styles. In the end, I decided to go with a more glamourous look with a bit more focus on. Before the wedding, Yin coordinated with me and my planner on the game plan to streamline everything and they arrived right on time to set up the makeup station and the hair station for both to go smoothly. I couldn't have picked a better makeup artist for my August 2020 wedding than Yin. I asked for a natural, sweet look with a little va-va-voom of lashes back in late 2019 for our makeup trial and she captured exactly that in her quaint home studio. I kept the makeup on for some time afterwards and even went out to eat and the makeup stayed in place (apart from lipstick of course). When COVID hit, I reached out to Yin to figure out what we could do since I didn't want to expose both of us and her family. She agreed to teach me over camera across a few sessions and she even gave me a couple options for what to cover in each lesson. Yin takes her work very seriously and asked that I treat the learning process seriously as well, including doing makeup homework, so I was a bit nervous having never done much other than some eyeliner and concealer. It turned out to be one of the best COVID mini-projects I've done! Yin was warm and friendly, explained adjusting the makeup to my face shape clearly, was receptive to feedback in-between when I thought something was a bit too much, taught me to put on fake lashes, provided product recommendations, and gave me good tips for taking care of the makeup for an outdoor possibly humid day. Loved this lady! Yin is so good at her job - she was the consummate pro- progressional, on time, funny, polite, and honest. She was open and easy to talk to, and also honest in a very nice way about what kind of make up would and wouldn't work. Also, she was very helpful in the logistical planning aspects too. She recommended timing make up and entrances and etc that was super helpful to my sister who was planning a wedding for the first time. I had a horrible eye stye unfortunately for me, and Yin did my makeup in such a way that you couldn't even tell! I was shocked. She also air brushed away my double chin and gave me a jaw line!! Woohoo took five to ten pounds off my face! She also did my sister's and my hair and she was amazing. So efficient and quick but still looked great! My curls stayed the entire night, and neither my sister nor I needed any makeup touch ups throughout the evening despite our insane sweating (church didn't have ac in the summer ceremony in Boston). I got married 6/22/2019 and I'm so happy I choose Yin and Kettia. After trying another stylist and being very leery after they didn't know how to treat my hooded eyes, I was very pleased with my trial with Yin. She made sure to check what level of makeup I usually wore, my dress style, and then did the makeup in stages so I could see the effects and adjust. She took note of small details like that one eye was more hooded and therefore needed more false lashes on that one. She also took pictures at all angles to ensure we could recreate the look. On the day of my wedding, I had hair and makeup done for myself and 6 other ladies in the bridal party. Yin and Kettia were fun, energetic, and took the time to understand each lady's style and makeup preferences, especially since we were quite a diverse group. My MOH loved the fact that Kettia knew how to style her dreads. Each of my bridesmaids told me they really enjoyed their look and feeling their best, and our getting ready was very relaxed and full of laughter. I can attest that the makeup did not budge all night, and it looked even better than the trial that we did. It looked very natural in pictures even though it was heavier than my usual. She also taught my bridesmaid how to attach my veil and take it off without ruining my hair, and left me extra lip gloss for touch ups. I really appreciated Yin's attention to detail in all of her followup and reminders. I got married in the cape on 5/24/19 and wanted a natural look so that I still looked like myself at the wedding. Yin nailed it and everyone loved my makeup! She also did an amazing job with my hair and that of my bridesmaids. She arrived early to get ready, and was right on schedule. She also practises good hygiene. Highly recommend! It's extremely difficult (almost impossible!) to find someone in the greater new England area who does Asian makeup well. Most people seem to just cake on a ton of makeup, thinking the more the merrier. I've tried "love notes by June" after reading her great reviews online, but was very disappointed with the results as it made me look 10 years older and I also didn't look like myself. Moreover, she didn't seem to care much about her clients, unlike Yin, who understands that this is the biggest day of a lady's life and that everything needs to be perfect. If you're looking for a professional makeup artist who is reliable, trustworthy, hygienic, easy to work with and who does amazing work, I highly recommend Yin. Yin is incredible and an absolute pro. There are so many makeup artists out there who don't really know how to work and accentuate your natural beauty and will turn you into some tacky version of yourself. Yin is definitely not like that. She really knows her stuff, and knows what colors work best for your skin tone. The event, Celebration for Kids, is not only super meaningful and close to my heart but one of the only extravaganzas that I get all dolled up for throughout the year! Yin was my makeup and hair artist for both the engagement session and the wedding, and she was professional, energetic, and fabulous to work with. My makeup held up really well without any retouching (and I also had no time to do any retouches). I was really worried about how my makeup would look after the ceremony, because of the amount of tears I shed, but I looked fine after dabbing the tears away and no retouches were needed.
