Fantuan
Emily T.

Surprisingly, in all my years I have never had fantuan. But since it's been going viral, I thought it would be a great idea to try. I just ordered 1 fantuan, and I felt like it was perfectly filled. I loved the crispy youtiao, the ratio of pork floss and pickled veggies was perfect, and it was very filling and was enough to keep me full through breakfast and lunch. All I can think about it when I can find the time to go back and get another one. This might need to be my staple breakfast from now on. It's also only around $6, and service was great. It was very quick and easy to order, and my food came out quickly as well and piping hot. I can't wait to come back and get this again!

It was my first time trying a Fan Tuan and I really enjoyed it. The San Gabriel location looks a little better to me, so I'll have to check that one out next. The prices on the menu might've been outdated or doesn't include some items. We added everything to our rice roll: fried donut, scallion eggs, pork floss, and pickled veggies. The sticky rice was on the drier side, towards eating the end of the roll I tosses out the remaining rice because it was so hard. The place is a little outdated and they charge a service fee if you pay with card. The worker spoke Chinese and we didn't, but it wasn't too bad ordering because we just showed her picture of what we wanted.

This is the place to be for a delicious, quick breakfast! The salty rice roll is only 5.75 and definitely way more filling than a McMuffin. Definitely would recommend getting the scallion pancake as well! Service is nonexistent as it's like a fast casual place.

I don't even know how long Yi Mei Deli has been open, but it has to have been decades since I remember coming here as a kid. Hadn't been here since, but I definitely got inspired by my friend who absolutely loves this place. Hey, why not...it's still around. I've had a few things here, but the one thing that I'm always going to get is the Egg Omelette. So simple, yet so tasty. Pure Taiwanese street food right here. Of course, I've also had my beloved Turnip Cake and also the Scallion Pancake. I mean, nothing to write home about. Great for a quick bite or a snack. Staff here...well, best be at least somewhat fluent in Mandarin. The menus are in English though, but yeah knowing some Mandarin definitely helps. Service overall is pretty quick. It's nice to still have Yi Mei around. Definitely has survived the times!

This is my ultimate comfort food. Taiwanese breakfast brings back all the memories of childhood. This place has been here for as long as I can remember. The salty rice roll is my favorite of all time. Service is fast and friendly. Small seating area but most take their order to go.

I was craving a Taiwanese breakfast and was so glad we stopped by! This has been a staple in Rowland Heights and I'm glad I got to try it out. The fan tuan (salty rice roll) was packed! Their donut is thiiiick but really soft. Sometimes, I've had donuts that are a little tough, but not this one. I think I'll add some pickled veggies to it next time. The radish/daikon cake is also really good. All of this food was just comforting to eat. Service was fast, can't complain! People continuously trickled in, which is a good sign. You can tell that it's a little more of a traditional place with the aunties. Quite a few places to sit and eat. Excited to eat again in the future!

I came here on a tue around 8am to get some breakfast to go and there was no wait. Service was quick. For the daikon cake with fried egg and it was ok, though it definitely needed some sauce. The savory soy milk was missing soy sauce and vinegar so it was also super bland. I ended up having to add them myself at home to make the soy milk curdle.

The front desk service was terrible--the staff had a poor attitude and couldn't seem to understand my order. The breakfast experience completely ruined my mood for the rest of the day.

Leslie Y.

The food is authentic and the menu offers plenty of traditional Taiwanese breakfast items, but the delivery fell below expectation. The savory soy milk was mediocre, and it lacked certain ingredients that were necessary to make it sufficiently tasty (pickled radish). I thought it didn't have enough vinegar to curdle the soy protein. The dan bing was also underwhelming. The best part was the garlic sauce, but that shouldn't be the highlight of this item. It wasn't too bad, but there's nothing outstanding about it. The interior dining area was small, and it didn't help that the place is often crowded and the ordering line congested the walking area even more. There wasn't enough tables to accommodate the diners, and we ordered ours to-go before a table opened up. It's an oldie but not a goodie. Somehow it still gets the job done.

We had Yi Mei Deli take out. All the items were delicious. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Taiwan Pork Bun

Yi Mei Deli is the place to be if you're into the all Taiwanese breakfast. The place isn't the biggest, but you'll usually see a line of 3-4 before you as you walk in. You best decide on what you want to order, or you can see the frustration on the cashier's face and it's not uncommon to take the customer behind you. The interior of this place is simple, you have an a few chairs and tables, a bakery table, a menu on top, and a cashier to take your order. Some of the favs are Chinese donut, soy bean, Taiwanese pork buns, and Taiwanese pancake. They are delicious but they the donut and pork buns are on the greasier side. Pro tip - take some Pepcid AC beforehand :)

It's hard to find a place where this dish is good so I was really happy. The noodles were also really good. Big portion so my bf and I shared. The kung pao chicken was good but it needed more flavor. I like my food with strong bold flavors and this dish lacked that. I would love to come back and try some of the other dishes like the sweet n sour pork. Although there was only one lady working in the front, she actually was able to run everything(taking the orders, clean the tables, packing the food and refill essentials/food) very well. On top of it, super high positive energy when greeting the customers. One of the main reasons this place reserved the 5-stars reviews. Place is clean and was label. After you placed and paid for the order, just simplely find a table, kitchen will bring the order to you, and you can start serving yourself with 4 great selection of congees (personally 八宝粥 and 小米粥 were my favorites), plus soy milk. I didn't try the side dishes this time. Surely will come back to try it out next time. They have sugar and salt on the side, so you can add according to your own taste. Neither congee nor soy was salted/sweetened, so if you prefer more flavor, definely grab a seasoning dish, and load up the sugars to your likes. They don't have cold soy milk, and don't sell fried donut(油条). That's the only complains I got. Overall, a great breakfast/lunch place.

They specialize in freshly steamed buns (baozi) and feature an all-you-can-eat congee bar. The lady working there speaks Mandarin; she asked if it was my first time, and I told her it was. For just $3, you get unlimited soup and congee with four different varieties to choose from. For an extra $2.50, you get unlimited refills from a selection of four cold side dishes. They also offer à la carte steamed baos, wontons, and dumplings for dine-in or takeout. I didn't have much of an appetite today, so I skipped the buns and just ordered the congee and appetizers. My bill came out to only $5.50 plus tax, which is ridiculously cheap! For the congee, the options were Century Egg & Lean Pork, Eight Treasure, Millet, and Hulatang (Spicy Pepper Soup). I tried the Century Egg & Lean Pork congee, but the texture was a bit watery, and the flavor was somewhat bland. The Hulatang (hot pepper soup) was a little too thick and jelly-like. While the Millet congee was also on the bland side, I actually really enjoyed the texture. I skipped the Eight Treasure congee this time. Honestly, at $3 for all-you-can-eat congee, it sounds too good to be true, so I didn't have high expectations for the quality. However, I really liked the cold side dishes bar! They had all my favorites, including Liángbàn Tǔdòusī (shredded potato salad), shredded wood ear mushroom salad, and spicy cucumber salad. I will definitely go back next time to try their dumplings, wontons, and baozi.

I saw them adding so much sauce and spreading it evenly, so I expected super flavorful bites all around, but I guess because the sauce was added to the top instead of being mixed with the eggs (which I know isn't possible with the way it's made), you get super bland and dry bites mixed with super salty ones. Maybe this just isn't for me because my husband loved it and chowed down on it real fast. Recommend getting this to share as it's huge and some might not like it. Their HK style food is authentic and delicious. We started with the hot and sour soup and it is literally the best version we have ever had. We also ordered their steamed rice rolls with shrimp and chive and you can tell it was made fresh by the wrinkles in the rice paper. The last item we ordered was their chinese sausage clay pot. It was exactly what we were craving. Crispy rice all along the edges with perfectly steamed rice, chinese broccoli and crispy chinese sausage. The price point for the delicious food is competitive. We got French-style filet mignon ($18.99), braised tofu in brown sauce ($14.99), chicken chow mein ($14.99), and a steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork ($5.99). A pot of rice was included in our meal. The steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork was a nice appetizer that arrived first. I enjoyed how the French-style filet mignon was garnished with Thai basil, black pepper, and ginger. The meat was flavorful and tender. The braised tofu in brown sauce was consistently hot on the inside. The delicious brown sauce soaked throughout the vegetables. The chicken chow mein didn't have a lot of sauce, but it was still delicious with a lot of meat included. Overall, it would be nice to visit again outside of a peak time because the food prices are competitive. The menu is expansive, and the breakfast selections look interesting. The atmosphere during the Sunday lunch peak time was consistently bustling. I think the restaurant started to play Chinese music loudly at random points so that people could finish dining more quickly.
