About 2 weeks later my video was ready for pick up - unprocessed, no finished product, no phone call about what went wrong. After posting this review customer service did get back to me. They were extremely helpful and solved my problem. If I were reviewing only for customer service I would give 5 stars, but one of my transfers was not great. There was some shifting throughout and my original had no sound so for some reason they added music with a bad buzzing sound. I guess the transfer was acceptable, although I was not expecting the shifts. I turn off the volume as not to hear the bad buzzing sound. read more

Took my VHS tape to Costco to convert to DVD, after waiting a few weeks it was returned saying 'they could not obtain a quality image from the VHS tape' , therefore they were not going to convert it for me, I was not charged any money. I rang YesVideo directly asking them to convert it regardless of the quality as the 5-10 min footage was taken back in the 90's with a cheap video camera so I realize the quality will be poor and I'm OK with that. However they refused and said that they do not convert anything which does not meet their quality standards, even if the customer tells them otherwise. THis is very frustrating as now I have to find another company to convert it. Other customers must have old recordings and VHS tapes of poor quality that they wish to convert but they will be out of luck if they use YesVideo. Seems like YesVideo needs to change their policy, otherwise many other customers will be annoyed like me. read more

I sent in several reels of 8mm film, and one came back covered in oil. Rather than offering me an apology, they suggested that I send it back at my expense and they'd go through their surveillance footage to prove that it wasn't their fault. On the other hand, what they did transfer is pretty low-res, and looks pretty shitty. I'd avoid this place if I were you. read more

I,m very disappointed I marked my film in the order I wanted to watch, but instead they were all mixed up. (example film of a wedding had 2 rolls, 1 roll was at the hall & few more film later was the church). Now I sent in other rolls, I have emailed them a number of times to be certain they follow the view order. NEVER got a reply back. I need to call them now. read more

2 stars for the fact that they did complete the order on time and returned completed DVD's and source videos intact and well packaged. However, I was very disappointed in the end result. The slip of paper that indicated issues with the original film (super 8) included focus and scratches. The scratches were normal and did not bother me. What I was disappointed over was how out of focus it was and the washed out colors. I brought out the projector to compare the original with the recordings on the DVD and there was no comparison. The images and faces on the original film were easily identifiable and much more focused. I returned the completed DVD's to Costco and received a full refund. Absolutely horrible! My film was transferred, every frame COMPLETELY out of focus. I laid a few sections of the film across our scanner, sharp as a tack! YesVideo has changed from scanning film for DVD transfer to the cheaper way of just direct from projector to DVD. I had some work done a couple of years ago transfering super 8 to DVD. The product was excellent, hover, now the result is a lousey video, There is dirt in some frams and the image qualty is very poor. read more

Transferred 3 8mm tapes to dvd using Costco's service. These tapes were recorded 20+ years ago and have not been touched now that video recorders are phased out. I was worried about how it would work out given the old tapes and mixed reviews, but these priceless videos of my childhood came out pretty clear! YesVideo sent the DVDs and tapes all back with good quality packaging and clipped out all empty parts from the recordings. In addition, when they found about 6 ft of wrinkled tape that was unable to transfer, the company called us and clarified about how to proceed. Great service and overall quick (took about 1 mo after sending in). Highly recommend! read more

I brought a VCR instruction manual to Costco for transfer to DVD. When I picked up the DVD's, the VCR tape was not returned. But the DVD was incomplete, missing the key first lessons from the VCR. So, back to Costco to request a re-do. The second set is, of course, the same as the first. And again, the original VCR is gone. Costco, you should know better than to associate with this outfit. Beware! I sent a 16 mm film to YesVideo through Costco. The returned DVD file is awful. Color balance is off, framing lines appear throughout the transfer, the frames show electronic noise, resolution is severely degraded, images jump, and there are many compression artifacts. The attached comparison photos illustrate some of these problems. YesVideo evidently uses very crude equipment to make this kind of transfer. read more

If I could give them zero I would. I had all our old VHS movies transferred to their website with plans to edit them. They did a decent job getting them transferred a couple of years ago but just last week when I went to get started on my project they were all gone. I contacted them and they said they sent me an e-mail that they would be doing this if I did not upgrade but I checked all my e-mail and there was nothing. Long story short - they are gone. Whey I called customer support they basically said - we are sorry but can't do anything. I just can't believe they dumped all our old home movies and made such a poor effort to contact customers. I have approximately 1500 35mm slides that my dad captured for all of our family happenings for 25 years. I had taken weeks to sort in chronological order so that I could send DVDs to family. YesVideo did not keep them in order as I had instructed. For example, 1 (of several) wedding pictures in 1955 ended up in a 1962 vacation string. It was like this throughout the entire set. Scrambled beyond belief! My weeks of work for nothing. I am so angry, I would give them no star. I can't put them in order. Costco returned the cost of 20 Dvds (4 sets of 5) @ $6.99. YesVideo is a big fat NO-VIDEO! DON"T SEND THEM YOUR FILM. I sent my Dad's very old 16mm and 8mm films from 1950's and 1960's to YesVideo through Costco's web site. I packed each film up in their original metal cases individually wrapped in bubble wrap to protect a family heirloom irreplaceable treasure. The films were returned to me outside of their original metal cases, off the original metal reels on cheap plastic reels without the original wrapping that I sent. The original metal cases were empty. They at least could have put the plastic reels back in the metal film reel containers to protect them, but no they were just too lazy to protect very old films. The original films were thrown back in the box with a few pieces of paper, the film reels were wrapped in super cheap tiny rubber bands. when I opened the box the rubber bands on most of the film reels were broken and the film came of the reels all over the box during the trip back. I called the company and they told me that they don't put films back on the original reels and they also don't put the films back in the original metal reel containers. I was like WHAT, ARE YOU SERIOUSLY TELLING ME THAT? When I watched the transferred film on the digital transfer, the play back was twice the speed of the film on a 16mm projector. After 30 minutes of arguing with them, they refunded my money. I went to Costco and filed a complaint against YesVideo. IF YOU WANT MY HONEST OPINION, YESVIDEO IS A BIG NOVIDEO! NO WAY WILL I-EVER RECOMMEND OR SEND THEM ANOTHER VIDEO OR FILM!!!! FIND A LOCAL COMPANY IF YOU CAN. The local company may be more money, but you get what you pay for. A BIG THUMBS DOWN! read more

Wish I could say negative numbers!! Horrible Horrible Horrible. I had 7 or 8 vhs tapes that included my wedding and my daughter's birth. All from the late 80's early 90's and ALL precious to me. I used the service through Sam's club. I went in on a so called sale and was told they were 14 dollars per disc and that I should get 2 hours per disc. Therefore if some of the tapes had less than 2 hours they would combine on one tape. I got the order back after a month and was anxious to watch them. First of all the quality is horrible. Tracking lines and bad quality. I know in this day and age there are things that can be done ESP with tracking. I used another company years ago to transfer some and they must have done it by hand cuz you could see them adjust the tracking. For what I ended up paying (180 bucks for 8 tapes not even all 2 hours each) I expected them to be decent. Not only was the quality bad but I was missing not one but TWO tapes. I realized one right away. It was my daughter's birth and a kindergarten performance. The dvd was labeled with both but the little pictures on the discs had no screenshots from the 2nd tape and it was NOT there after watching all the way through. I fast forwarded to the complete end. I immediately took it back the very next day and return both discs and both tapes. Fast forward almost 2 months later and I have been going round and round. I have called Sam's called them and no one EVER answers their phone. Not for me and not for Sam's. I emailed them and got a message saying they were expiditing it ONLY to finally get a call from Sam's yesterday that they sent it back and didn't redo it claiming that everything was on the tape. HELLO obviously it wasn't that is why I sent it back in the first place!!!! Not to mention I had 3 tapes of a mexico trip. They gave me 2 discs that were supposed to include the 3 tapes. I watched them and thought it was all on there but it had been YEARS since I had watched the tapes and I no longer have a vcr. After I realized I was missing the other tape I started thinking back and remembered the content that was on the 3rd tape and it dawned on me that yet again they missed a tape. In this instance I had already throw the tapes out. As someone said if you use them and I hope you don't MAKE SURE YOU CHECK EVERYTHING. Now I have lost that tape forever and as far as this latest one after all this time and money it is still not done! read more

I would not recommend this service which I used through Costco. The DVD copies I received from my original media are extremely poor quality. The images are cloudy, spotty and very poor quality. Also, I am missing videos. I seriously considering trying again with a better company. That's after I spent close to $1000 with YesVideo. read more

I saw the advertisement for Yesvideo in a Costco mailer and thought 'what a good idea': I could finally transfer my old 8mm films from the 60s (which had all only been viewed once, after I'd originally spliced them together), to digital format. Then I saw the part of the advertisement titled "What we won't do" (provide digital files of the material (DV video) - which aren't the DVD type of file but they need to make them anyway in order to make the final DVDs, and which have about 25% of the original pixel data in them - not noticeable unless you're interested in quality reproduction) and decided to send in one test reel composed of snippets of random scenes that didn't really fit in with anything else in my collection - just to see what the service actually provided in an end-product. So here's what I got. As advertised, I got two DVDs and the ability to view their contents free of charge for a period of 90 days from the time of purchase. That part is all well and good. Here's the rub (which may not bother some people who don't care about quality - and there are many, probably most people don't actually care as long as it's easy): The 8mm film, which is taken at 24 frames per second, is transferred to a medium (DVD) which plays them at nearly 30 frames per second (29.97 fps to be exact). The problem with doing that is that any 8mm film made with the standard frame rate for 8mm film will appear like the Keystone Cops zooming around at an unrealistic rate. If you've failed to notice this effect, you're their kind of customer. I E-mailed them and asked if there was any way they could arrange for me to either download the original DV files or to make them available on DVDs - all for a fee of some sort, of course - I wouldn't expect this service to be free. What I discovered is that this company isn't interested in innovation or serving the customer. You take, or don't take, what they do and that's the end of the issue as far as they're concerned. They were very courteous but not at all knowledgeable in their responses, effectively repeating the party line that they offer no option for purchasing the original DV files, which they already have on their system but won't sell to the purchaser of their product. My resort is to begin looking around for a service which caters to anyone interested in retaining as much of the original film information as possible. Does Yesvideo save your memories? Yes, but only 25% of them and those 25% are at the wrong frame rate. Oh yes - with respect to VHS to DVD conversion. I bought a Toshiba (I'm sure other brands do a respectable job as well) VHS to DVD (also dubs DVD to VHS but who would want to?) dual deck for under $155.00 and it works great. Other dual VHS to DVD decks sell for as little as $99.00 but I wouldn't go with the cheapest model if you're going to depend on it to make DVDs for you. Within a week I've converted 24 vhs tapes to DVDs and the quality is as good as it gets. The operation of the deck is also simple - dubbing is a matter of pressing the 'dubbing' button either on the front panel or on the full function remote. The time it takes to dub a tape to disc is the time it takes to play the tape. I'd recommend buying one of these for anyone who has more than five VHS tapes to copy because, after five converted tapes, you've paid for the deck at the prices Yesvideo charges - and you're in control of what you copy. Of course you need to buy a spindle of blank DVD-R discs. I have a printer which prints directly on the printable DVD blanks so that the result looks professional (don't skimp on the quality of the DVD blanks). Yesvideo has no indication of what's on the discs other than the title you submit when you place your order and their logo. I take screenshots of indicative scenes and print them on the disc along with text so you know immediately what the subject matter is. I also buy 200 SLIM Black CD Jewel Cases at 0.095 cents per piece (200 Jewel cases for $19.00) to store and protect my final product. There are a few options available on my deck which I found very useful. One is that you can select the quality of the recording. I chose the highest quality which has the trade-off of only allowing one hour (about 63 minutes) of Video per disc but that includes the up-conversion of your VHS data to 1080p. Granted, the original VHS tape may not contain enough data to make this use worthwhile but my philosophy is to preserve every shred of data that's available since that's the point of the whole exercise. Another option is that you can connect ANY video source - like, for instance, your DV video camera and making DVDs from tapes or SD/SDHC cards or even from direct broadcast if your TV has video and audio out ports. There's really no limit to what you can record on a DVD with these machines. They're a much better, more versatile option than sending your tapes to be processed at a one-size-fits-all assembly line. read more

Terrible! Sent them some 1950s precious family 16 mm films via Costco. (I see that CVS uses them too). The dvd came back with very dark picture, and a lot of film that skipped and jiggled. We'd edited and previewed the movies, so we knew the originals were better. Took them to Aplus Images in Walnut Creek, and Alex fixed them, for the same price! Luckily Costco will refund. read more

Had 17 VHS tapes converted 2 DVD. They lost 2 of the VHS tapes and the quality of several of them were terrible. I am still waiting on them to send me the DVDs of the tapes that were lost. Costco advised me to bring back the DVDs and tapes that were bad quality and they could review and re do them. I am not sure I will send the tapes back in fear of them losing them again. I would not use this service again unless the fixed the problem and gave me a refund. ***** EDIT -I have edited my review because of the excellent customer service I received very quickly. Yes video offered to re do my tapes at no charge however I dont know if I want to risk sending them in and them getting lost again. read more

I cannot overstate my disgust with how YesVideo handled my old family photos. I went to my local Costco asking for a photo scanning service, not thinking much of it, and when they came back, some were okay, but some were ruined. I'm talking about photos taken in the 1960s and 1970s that I don't have other copies of or negatives of. YesVideo scratched some of them up, and to my outrage, some of them that were returned to me weren't even the originals -- they did a poor job of scanning the original and got a copy back to me. I don't know even know where the originals are now. This was supposed to be how I was going to preserve these photos and prevent them from being lost by solely being physically stored, but YesVideo proves to me that it only takes some idiot employees with no regard for precious family memories to ruin it. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, UNLESS YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF REDUNDANCY. I should have done these myself, to my regret. read more

This is not a difficult problem to fix when transferring film to digital. It has to do with the speed of transfer. Basically they do so much volume, they do not care. I gave instructions that all 3 mini dvds needed to be on one disc. I will NEVER use this service again. The transfer was a graduation from my job. Very, very bad quality. Four rolls of 8mm film all out of focus. The originals were very clear and in focus and in fine shape. Sent them back and then they claimed even more was wrong with them--they just checked everything on the list as a reason why they were so bad. And that they wouldn't even try a second time. I will never use them again. The first time they didn't even bother to put the rewind the film onto the original reels that fit into cans, but left them on large plastic reels without covers, which I cannot store safely. Fortunately, Costco refunded by $145. read more

I do not recommend YesVideo. They screwed up the very first order I sent them via Costco...only did half the 8 MM tape. And I wasn't impressed with the half that they did do. Hap hazard scenes set to music? All I wanted was a video that I could edit. For the vast number of tapes I have to convert, I will buy the equipment and convert them myself. read more

I was very enthused after reading so many good reviews. I sent in a 400 ft 7 inch super 8 reel. That's what I was charged for. The film footage on the reel they sent back was considerably less with no explanation. I haven't received any response to my inquiry of what happened to the missing film footage. I also had to ask them to stop sending notifications reminding me to view my movie on line as I had been right along. However, there was no mention family members on a MAC would have problems. I did contact support who had to research the issue and sent back a multi-step process these MAC users would have to do to view the online movie. Over all I got a sense there is a lack of coordination going on as some of my emails returned an "out of office" notice that was well past date. That the quality of the movie wasn't great I realize was because the light and focus of the original film, and they did the best they could. I had hoped their ad claim to clean, and improve the original would have helped, but it wasn't noticeable. All in all my experience wasn't as joyful as those other reviews...more mediocre, even disappointing. read more

I gave this company four tapes to transfer to DVD. On one tape, they wouldn't transfer because it was copyrighted material. I understand this, but they still charged me for the transfer! On the next tape, the dvd wouldn't play. I brought the material in and waited a month and then went back to pick it up. Once I got home, they never fixed it- they just have me the same damaged DVD back (I had written on it with a sharpie). I won't use this company again. read more

5 stars for speedy order. I turned in over 499 slides of family in 1950's. They were organized per San Luis Obispo Costco instructions into 2 separate orders. The Costco salesclerk was very helpful and his instructions were very clear. I was really surprised to get a confirmation email next day from that company that they had received my slides. Then 8 days later I got an email that my slides were ready for pickup at Costco! It is evening and we are watching a DVD of vintage family slides! But... 2 stars because of the poor quality of the dvd copy of the slides. You see, last year I had scanned ALL of them onto my computer using an Epson4490 Photo Scanner. I did not use any digital correction, ICE, or color changes etc. We just scanned as quickly as possible for an emergency out of state family visit. I assumed my efforts were low quality and that a professional lab could do better. So that is how we ended up at Costco & Yesvideo. Well my personal scanning job turned out to be excellent compared to Yesvideo. Yesvideo copies were darker with red tinting and too much contrast causing graininess, poor facial details. I was really disappointed. If I hadn't made my own scans of these slides then I would be very ignorant of the poor quality by Yesvideo. I was really hoping for 'best' results but willing to settle for 'better' ...not 'poor' results. Also note: you cannot transfer any of the images from this dvd onto your computer...period. 5/22/13 I called Yesvideo and spoke with very nice person. She apologized and said I could resend my slides thru Costco with note of the problems to be corrected. Or just get my money back. Well thought about giving them second chance but decided I will ask for my money back because this was 499 slides cleaned & good condition. My home scanning was surprisingly much better. Yesvideo needs to do more quality control of slides scanned vs the actual slides. 5/23/13 I went to Costco and got a full refund. Costco folks were very pleasant to deal with. Horrible! No stars if possible. We meticulously boxed up our slides and numbered each slide just as instructed and they were out of order on the finished disc. One of the slides was in sideways. Four of the slides were in twice. Out of 500 slides, about 400 of them were either washed out or blurry. We were so disappointed since we had edited each slide at least twice to make certain that it was worthy of being transferred, this, of course, included whether or not it was in focus. Thank goodness Costco gave us our money back, but now we have to go to a different vendor who has different submission requirements so essentially we have to start all over. I know that some people say they have been pleased, but maybe we just got the wrong person handling our order. read more
