I sent them 11 reesl of 8mm film from the 40's, 50's and 60's. They were quick to digitize them, all of their online downloading was perfect, as was the quality, especially considering all off this footage was quite old, and frankly not stored very well. They made it easy to ship in both directions, and my order was filled perfectly on every level. And, they were quick! I will definitely use YesVideo again. read more

I sent 3 - 50' reels of super 8 film to Capture/Yes Video. Videos came back cropped too much and were speeded up somewhat. Also in some places the film "jumped" or "stuttered". I have run these films on a movie projector and they did not do that. Color and sharpness was ok, after all, it is super 8. This was a test run for me so I could see if I wanted to buy one of those digitizing movie copying machines. If I decide to copy any more I will buy the machine. read more

Instead of processing exactly what you sent, they screen all of your photos and they decide what is acceptable and what is not. They don't even tag which ones were rejected. You just get a note and a refund indicating that they did not meet their standards. WTF? The image quality is horrible. The image of a projected slide on a wall is better than their scanned image to computer service. JUST... NO! To be fair, the cost to have your content transformed to digital using this company is actually quite reasonable. Plus, if you have scratched media, their equipment has the intelligence to remove the scratches and imperfections. read more

I found some old 8mm films that were recorded by my parents in the mid 50s. I went through the Costco website which landed me on the YesVideo website. After receiving the transfer from YesVideo on DVD and flash drive, I noticed that the video was playing at almost double speed. After a bit of research, I discovered that 8mm film was originally recorded at 16 fps (frames per second). YesVideo transfers at 30 fps. I contacted the company 4 times and got nowhere. They either had a language issue or were clueless about the transfer process. I also noticed that the colors were so washed out that the video almost appeared to be black and white (see photo). In addition, the film was heavily cropped from the original size. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere if your films have any sentimental value. read more

Not really impressed by the quality of the video conversion I got from Costco (which sub-contracts it to Yes Video) since it was actually worse than the ones I did myself with an amateur setup. I guess when dealing with Costco, I've come to expect a certain level of quality and one would think since this is what they do, they have better equipment than the average person but my 8mm video came out kind of average at best. It looks a lot better if I connect the RCA port directly to the same TV. I know that there is a lot that goes to it but either their capture hardware or digitizing software is just not that great. I could forgive that but after getting charged $41.98 for converting 2 tapes, I can't forgive getting the absolute cheapest USB stick that I could not even use to view the video due to all the errors it was getting and it barely let me copy the files over to my computer before becoming unrecognizable to my computer. I mean come on...your job is to preserve memories so why would you at least not even try to get a higher quality USB stick? The no-name USB stick they use says "MemoryUSB" on it...Not Sandisk, not Memorex, not Kingston...Fortunately I don't have any more stuff to convert. Edit, I'm adding one star because the video quality was a little than I thought once looked at through another TV and was a hit. Costco sub-contracts it's video transfer service to a company called Yes Video in Georgia. I HIGHLY recommend you Google "Yes Video" and check out the reviews online. For a quick summary I'd say they did an OK job. But, it could have been much better and I would not recommend them. The images are viewable and I was able to extract the video files from the DVDs they sent. Here is the upside: 01) You can take your film into your local Costco and have it sent and returned that way. Or, online via Costco's photo site where you mail in your film reels and it is mailed back to your home which is what I did. 02) They were fairly quick. Only a couple of weeks in early January. 03) You can pay using a credit card and not be charged extra. Here is the downside: 01) The only option for the output of the transfer project is DVDs. I have software that allows me to extract DVD video files which I can then edit but it would have been much easier if I could have received MPG, MP2 or MP4 files for each 3-inch 50 foot reel. DVDs are on their way out in this new age of streaming so they should provide the output in a format that can be easily uploaded to personal cloud space. Do NOT depend on them storing your video files. 02) In my case all 39 reels were spliced onto larger 7-inch plastic reels (5 of them), all my small boxes now contain empty reels. This means that if there is any writing on the boxes you can no longer link that writing to any particular film segment. Luckily, I still have a projector so I was able to number my reels then make a spreadsheet describing what is shown on each reel before I mailed them. 03) The DVDs themselves are not organized like you would think. I had 39 small 3-inch 50 foot reels so you would think that I would have 39 scenes on the DVDs. Nope. There are MANY more scenes on the DVDs than their are reels. At least they are in the same order that I submitted them. When you place your order online they email you a file with bar codes for each reel and sequence numbers. You cut out these labels and tape them to your reels or boxes. That establishes the sequence. The DVDs also contain "Music Videos" that are composed of many 2 second random clips, usually with people in them. The music that goes with these seems to be random as well from classical to rock. My suggesting to Yes Video is to just use classical or none at all. 04) There is some kind of light leak in their machine that does the transfers. It's on the left side and more pronounced on the lower left and when the image is dark. You can see it in my snapshots attached to this review if photos are allowed (the video files are much more sharp than shown in these photos). These light leaks are on every frame of every reel. I had some old 8 mm film from my parents that was probably from the 50s. I had their wedding converted by a professional local guy years ago and he did a great job and set it to music. I thought I would save a little bit of money because I didn't know what was actually on these tapes. The quality is awful, it's so washed out you can barely see it. So much for their better color claim. They charged me extra money for what they say was extra film and all I paid for was a blank screen with black lines across it. You'd think they would check that and splice it out. I paid a lot of money for 16 minutes of nothing. It's also so fast that I can't even watch it. I would never buy again with this company, wish I could get a refund .Huge disappointment on memories of my parents. Get a pro to do it like I did the first time . Btw, I paid only slightly more for the pro to do it! Upon receipt of the tapes, I found that they took everything off of the original boxes and reels and sent me back empty ones and put it all on a hideous, looking big plastic reel that I have nowhere to store. What a complete and utter disappointment and waste! UPDATE: they act like they want to help you by replying but then they ghost you. My 1st experience with 35mm slides and 2 Hi8 tapes went ok except they lost one of the tapes. But everything was in their cloud so I wasnt concerned about the missing tape. I was going to destroy all the media anyway. So I take 4 more tapes. Status says IN TRANSIT. I dropped them off mid June so I go to the store to check on them. They have 1 tape but the wrong persons name on the package. They are not in the cloud plus they included a DVD which I did not order. The interface on the DVD is awful. But at least I had some media with some pictures on DVD case so I was able to identify it as mine. There were 2 other tapes with the same number as the 1 I was able to identify but the their DVD's had pictures that were not my videos. The order number that was generated when I created the order is not the same number that was on the package or the 1 tape I did get back. The nice lady at Walmart said they create a new number when they receive the order. To me that defies all logic. So now my heirloom family videos may be lost forever. A piece of advice...if you use them be sure to put your name and phone number on all your media. Based on the comments regarding their customer service I'm not optimistic I will ever get these back. It's so disappointing and frustrating how incompetent this company is! I send 2 old VHS tapes for conversion which were sent back to me with no conversion. Obviously, they were not able to do it. Then I had them convert 2 old tapes to CD and not only the CDs won't play anywhere, my computer or DVD player, they also had a horrible quality! One freeze after a few minutes and the other half of it is so dark, that can't be seen. The video was taken outside! Then I called them 3 times and emailed them twice to have them send me a label to send the CDs back to be re-done. They keep saying "it takes 24-48 hrs. from this phone call" and it never happened! I am not sure how they are affiliated with Costco. But Costco needs to cancel its contract with these people. Horrible! read more

Extremely disappointed with this company. I sent in the one and ONLY VHS tape of my mother in laws wedding through Costco. The video tape was in good condition when I had left it to get sent out, only to receive it back two weeks later damaged. This is very unacceptable especially because this company won't do anything about the fact that it got damaged on their end. The price you're quoted upon purchase is not what you'll end up paying, as they charge for every two hours of video converted. Was charged double of what I agreed to upon actually receiving my order back, and also have multiple copies of each converted video because orders include multiples for whatever reason. Don't know who I'd be giving the video of my 2nd grade talent show to, but whatever. Another project ended up being 7 DVDs long, so the entire order of that project was 14 DVDs. Customer service at Yes Video is HORRIBLE! I will never do business with them again. I got 2 faulty USBs back. When the first one failed I couldn't retrieve the video online because they only keep them for 90 days. Then the second one physically collapsed when I got it back. I made sure to download right away. But now I have no back up. Customer service told me to send it back. Then they said they'd send an return envelope. Then they said they no longer have access to the files, so I had to pay for the cassettes to be digitized again. I went through the stages of grief, losing my slides :) I am serious. YesVideo/Walmart lost 72 old slides of my family that I had painstakingly made into a video story. I took them up on their offer of choosing a title, theme and soundtrack. I was Steven Spielberg. I couldn't wait to see the finished product. I spent days on it. I dropped my slides off at Walmart. Two weeks later I got an email from YesVideo and the worst had happened. They didn't get my slides. After another 2 weeks of searching for them, which basically involved sending me back to Walmart to beg for help, they were still lost. This is the most disappointing experience that I've ever had with a business. If it had been clear to me that I was ordering from YesVideo instead of Walmart, I would have looked them up on here and reversed course immediately. But that isn't made clear on the online Walmart order form. If something goes wrong, YesVideo blames Walmart and sends you back to the store for help that i never got. Sent in an order over a month ago, was never notified when they received the order or that I need to pay an additional $3.44 for extra footage (total order was nearly $100 so this was a pretty tiny amount to hold processing for). Two weeks after paying the extra $3.44 and being told my processing was complete, still no films, USB, etc. Customer service has not been helpful at all: they keep telling me that my order is complete and I should get it soon - but unable/unwilling to provide shipping date, tracking, etc. There are many far superior companies. I took my precious home movies and childhood photos to Costco which outsources the conversion to YesVideo, which should change their name to NoWayVideo. The quality that you get back is horrible. They lost a few of my reels so I couldn't even go elsewhere to get it done properly. Right now I'm finally looking at the DVDs again, trying to figure out how to salvage what I have. I hadn't looked at them in years because I was so angry and upset by how they had ruined the project. Now I can't even transfer the "digital" conversion from their cheap DVDs onto my computer so I can edit them. It ended up being a waste of a lot of money and now I don't even have the original 8mm reels anymore. You will NOT save money by using them. You get what you pay for. Clueless! Never again! "I sent several 8mm and 16mm films to them via Costco for digital conversion. Almost ALL the digital video is in REVERSE. That is, people diving backwards from the pool OUT of the water back onto the pool deck, swimming backwards, etc. After a dozen phone calls including speaking to the Atlanta manager several times, who - in turn - allegedly spoke with his production manager, I was told "the movies cannot be fixed, they were SHOT BACKWARDS." To people reading this, I kid you not. This MINDLESS statement blew me away. I tried explaining to these alleged video conversion experts that in the days of FILM it was IMPOSSIBLE to shoot a movie backwards. PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE, since film is a record of time passing in front of the camera. CRICKETS on the other end. Obviously, the film had either not been rewound or rewound improperly! Very common back when people had home projectors. I will NEVER again entrust ANY work to YesVideo because they are CLUELESS. After I wrote the above review, I read more of the other reviews and they reminded me ... there was a period of about 3 weeks during which YesVideo had NO IDEA where my movies were. After I'd first gotten them back at Costco, taken the disc home and seen the videos in reverse, I sent everything (including the original film) back for redo. AGAIN, YesVideo was absolutely CLUELESS! We cried and cried and cried. I've been hauling around a vhs for 20years and I figured it was my prom but I wasn't for sure. Through out the years I kept saying "I have to find someone that can convert this " but before now converting was still in the works . When I say my heart was so happy to see it was, in fact, my prom along with family some passed on-melted our hearts. My now 18 yr old daughter and 6 year old son was amazed. So I placed an additional order for 6 additional video tapes late April. That came to $150.00, no problem, again I was very happy with the results. Well, before the order was shipped, they charged my credit card for $90 more because they said that my 2 hour video tapes had 5 hours of video on them? I tried to see if there is something they could do to make it right but they were unwilling to do anything for me. Not even the slightest desire to help a returning customer. I had hoped YesVideo's service would have produced a close to the original video. It was far from it. I ordered a copy Super8 to DVD duplication through Costco. This is my experience: The transaction went as described. I believe the effort was worth the $20 I paid although the quality of the recording was almost worthless. I sent them two small super8 movies which they spliced together and returned them on a different (and larger) plastic reel. Unfortunately the reel didn't fit my projector. They sent me the two DVD's and my original packaging a reels back along with the plastic reel with the spliced movies. You can also do a download of the digital media from a web site. The only huge problem was the -very poor reproduction quality- of the digital material which made my time and money a waste! To YesVideo: You should really get better reproduction equipment. My friends newer Google phone did a much better job than what ever you are using. Also, get a glass bead relective movie screen to display the Super8 on as you record it. Very disappointed. Overall, not really that impressed with YesVideo, mainly because the online component is largely worthless. The video transfer quality is probably what I expected based on years old VHS tapes. And with everyone so accustomed to HDTV these days, its easy to forget just how bad videotapes actually looked. What's terrible, however, is the fact that there does not appear to be any way to get the "chapters" of a transferred video to autoplay when viewed online. Instead, the video stops after each chapter. Meaning, you can get between one minute and 5 minutes of action before it...stops. And then, there's a bit of overlap between the chapters, so you get to see the last few seconds twice. It was pretty convenient to drop the tapes off at Costco, which is why I did it. But don't do it if you're relying on the online side of things, probably worth the hassle and money of looking elsewhere. read more

Buyer beware. When I placed my order to transfer 6 VHS tapes, it said the estimated cost would be $123. When I went to pick up my order, it was $233 plus tax ($250 total). I inquired with CVS/YesVideo and they said that the extra cost came from the additional charges after the first 2 hours of the tape. In addition to the content that I wanted to transfer, I had some old basketball games and other stuff taped on them but didn't know it since I haven't had a VHS player in many years. The way the fees are structured is very deceiving. They should just charge a flat fee for each tape, regardless of the amount of recording on it. That way the customer can know how much it's going to cost and shop elsewhere if they are not happy with it. Won't be using this service again. read more

SCAM. Returned videos to me in an unusable format. Cannot make edits or upload to a PC, or watch on a PC for that matter. And now the format cannot watched on new DVD players. Good: The submission and mailing process was fairly smooth. The web site had up-to-date updates on the current conversion status. Tracking was provided for mailing in either direction. Bad: Quality, Quality, Quality. The ONLY reason why I paid was to improve on the quality of my home conversion done 10 years ago, with default settings. But NOOOOO! What came back was poorer quality than what I did 10 years earlier. All the edges during any movement had jagged edges, and gave me a headache to watch. And the image quality was less clear. I am saying "NO" to Yes Video from now on. They don't seem to support their vendors (in this case, CVS) or their customers. And their digital DVD copies from slides are mediocre, at best. By the way, Yes Video has a facility in Norcross, Gerogia. All orders end up in Norcross, Georgia, not Santa Clara, California, according to their Customer Service Rep. A little background: I have been a serious amateur photographer for the past 48 years, so I suppose I know a little something about photos and photography. I filled out their order form online and took my slides to the closest CVS in Eagle Rock (Los Angeles), California. Well, this CVS did not have the special envelopes for sending the slides to Yes Video. They referred me to the other Eagle Rock CVS store. That store had the envelopes but the designated person to send it out would not come in for three more days. In the meantime, I had three order numbers: one from my online form, one CVS and another one from Yes Video. When I got the slides back, ALL of the slides were out of focus and the colors were way off. In the days of analog photos, one would say they were all overexposed or underexposed (and out of focus, to boot). I called Yes Video and they said they would re-do making digital copies. So, I went back to the second CVS where I picked them up. Well, guess what? They didn't have any of the special Yes Video envelopes. So, I went to the other CVS store. No envelopes there, either. It has been a week and a half; I am waiting to a call from CVS to let me know that they have these special envelopes. Two more weeks have passed and neither CVS store as the special Yes Video envelopes. I emailed them two days ago on Feb. 5, 2018. No response yet. I would give them zero stars if possible. And no special Yes Video envelopes as of Feb. 7, 2018. On Friday, February 9, 2018, a representative from Yes Video called and said my CVS had the Yes Video envelopes. She blamed CVS for not having them. So, I took my re-do order in but they are not being shipped out until Monday, Feb. 12. This was my 7th trip to CVS for this one order. In my continuing saga with Yes Video, UPS says Yes Video received my package on Wed, Feb 21. Yes Video says they received my package today, Wed, Feb. 28. What have they done with my package this past week? Now, on Feb. 28, Yes Video say it will be another 17 days to process the order then they will ship it back to CVS. You would think they would give the order a priority as it is a do-over of their mediocre digital copies. I got the re-do of my 30 slides to DVD on Tuesday, March 20. That's 6 weeks door-to-door. You would think re-do's would get some sort of priority. Well, the re-do's were slightly better. Most JPGs were more or less in focus. However, the images that were over or under exposure in the first digital transfer still are and their exposure on the original slides is just fine. So, here is a summary of my experience, 8 trips to CVS when it should have been two. Mediocre copies of the slides to DVD, both times. All of this is why I am avoiding Yes Video from now on. ************************************************************************* This is not my first experience with Yes Video. In 2013, I went through Costco to have some personal videotapes and 8 mm films transferred to DVD. The copies of the videotapes were all soft copies, like looking at an old TV show. The 8 mm film was copied off center. One of my 8 mm films had a title slide and the left hand-side of the words were missing on the digital copy. It is harder for me to prove that the videotapes were copied poorly but I could look at the 8 mm films with a magnifying glass. Overall, personally, I would avoid using Yes Video. If anyone has an alternative vendor for this, I would appreciate your letting me know. read more
