I needed a Celebration of Life video and started my market research on what it entailed, how rates worked and the range of prices. I contacted Dan who asked what my price range was, and provided me with a lower amount which was a pleasant surprise. He explained how the video would be made, what I needed to provide, preferred file size of images, music, etc. After getting started there was an additional unexpected fee for samples; he provided 3 "backdrop" samples which brought the total fee above my original budget. As a rookie for videos, I thought the original rate was for the complete project. He was able to increase the file size of the original video with additional pictures and also added my music selection. As a small busines owner, I know the importance of customer service. Yelp is a good gateway for potential consumers to find a reputable service, which is how I found Dan. Initially, my experience with Dan was smooth all around, whether it was communicating via telephone, email or in-person. THE ISSUE: I hired Dan to shoot a promo commercial for my limousine business. The planning process was about a month long. It included creating a script for the shoot, scheduling with individuals who would be featured in the commercial, hiring outside personnel that would work the different scenes, and having all my employees scheduled, paid, and working for this commercial shoot event. You can imagine all the work and preparation, not to mention the stress and anxiousnesss, that went into making this event run smoothly. The morning of the shoot at 6:15 am I recieved a TEXT, not a CALL: "jay its dan, I felt sick so i'm sorry but I cant do the video for you." I messaged back asking for options; if he was able to push through being sick, considering the project was supposed to begin at 3pm that same day! After my message went unanswered, I called him to try to discuss options. Suffice to say it, both my texts and phone calls were ignored. How extremely unprofessional and unexpected! I still have not heard from Dan on this matter, nor do I need to at this point. His services will not be needed on my part nor recommended. read more

Dan did a promotional video for my business, Angel Dog Photography. He did a fantastic job in both refining the project and executing the video. Initially, I had a concept for the video that he expanded and sharpened to make it more effective. He suggested changes to the script to add a more powerful call to action. Further, he was very professional throughout the entire process. I had some difficulty with the script (a little stage fright) and he patiently worked through that issue. I was really happy with how he was able to execute the concept. He knew exactly how every scene should work and made sure he got everything he needed to produce a professional result. Finally, the result exceeded my expectations on several fronts. For example, I know how difficult it can be to get good sound when filming a video. He knew exactly what he was doing and the sound came out incredibly well. There were two detail shots that required closeups of pictures on a smartphone and in a photo album. They came out perfectly. This review addresses only Dan's capabilities as the 'Emergency Drummer', and my experience with him for one gig... Our band, The Mad Maggies, just played a gig up at Studio E in Stebastapol - very cool venue, BTW. Our regular drummer couldn't make the gig, so our band leader Mags was digging through Craigslist trying to find a sub who could manage our smorgasbord of musical styles. We play a vast variety of music: polka, klesmer, ska, celtic, waltz, etc. which tends to rule out the vast majority of drummers who stick to either rock or jazz. Mags found Dan on Craigslist billing himself as the 'Emergency Drummer', who was at least willing to try to fill in on short notice (& for a nominal fee, natch). He was given access to our recordings prior to the gig, and arrived early to mindmeld with our bassist - that after a two-hour-plus commute from San Jose! I play trombone for the Maggies, but am also a tuba player, and so can appreciate a solid precussionist. Dan laid down a solid, apropriate beat for each of our varied tunes, and more importantly, kept a steady tempo as set when Mags kicked off each tune. He did a very creditable job of catching our breaks and slipping in his own flourishs to enhance our performance. As a musician, I would be very pleased to perform with Dan in the future. read more
