First of all I NEVVVER leave reviews. I always shop for my comics between Now or Never and Comics N Stuff sometimes TC Rockets and thought I'd give this one a try since it's down the street from my job. I always love supporting businesses in the city I was born & raised in. But this morning completely switched my mind on that! Who ever worked 6/10/2026 this morning either didn't get enough sleep or hates his life. I called to ask if a certain variant cover for a new issue was in stock and he gave me the NASTIEST attitude, I was in complete shock. It wasn't what he said it's HOW he said it. As if I was an inconvenience, a customer? Maybe he was overwhelmed since there was 7 customers in the store like he stated but again he could've had way better attitude I mean it is 10AM lively up! I've worked customer service majority of my life and it's #1 priority for a business to thrive and keep customers coming back. I called comics n stuff right after and the lady was so eager to help me! Very disappointed! read more

I enjoy making purchases at this store. The clerk is always kind and helpful. I buy Pokemon cards here. I have gotten a pair of rare cards here. The prices are legitimately better than those online. Came in over the weekend after stopping at three different LCS and this one was by far the best. They had a larger selection of back issues and the prices beat the other places. I also had a pleasant chat with the owner Michael, who is not only knowledgeable but also took time to show me some comics that had just arrived, which I promptly purchased. Yesteryear's comics is OVERFLOWING with comics. It's claustrophobic how many books are stacked on top of each other. It feels a little bit like Smaug hoarding gold. Great thing is you are looking for a variant they will most likely have it. Will be marked up, but that's the price of doing business. Owner is nice and I know someone who has a pull list who raves about how great the owner is. Always grabbing stuff he knows he'll enjoy. They participate in Free Comic Book Day and do sales which is awesome. They also have a diverse selection of figs and t-shirts. **if you're claustrophobic you probably will hate this place** I read the reviews and saw the most recent photos and had to check out this spot for myself. The photos are no joke - it's super crammed and veryyy limited in space to move. When we arrived i nearly stepped on a stack of comics leaning against the bookshelf on the ground. There were already two guys at the register and they had to walk backwards into this little side step of bookshelves to get out of the small path that led around the corner. There are funko pops stacked high and just the slightest nudge makes them all start to wobble. It's very stressful to move around freely. Not only that but there is no AC and no music so it's just dead quiet and hot. I will say though its somewhat organized in the sense of whatever the front comic is it's most likely that series all the way to the back of the shelf. However, it's just hard to kneel down and look at the bottom row without knocking into something behind you. What really bummed me out is the middle table in the room is actually neatly sorted but there are stacks and stacks of other stuff on top that you can't look at them at all. :/ It took a while to find anything I was interested in but once I did there were a good amount of issues I needed. You have to walk around the table in the middle then shimmy past stacks of more funkos to get to the cashier because you can't really go back the way you came as other people may be behind you. That's another downside is that really you have to stay in a single file line so if you went when others are in front of you or vice versa everyone is waiting on each other not to mention the dangerous fire hazard the entire store poses. The owner was quiet and kept looking over at us and he asked if we needed any help. When we got to the front he was in the middle of packaging orders as he sells on ebay and quickly moved them to let me put my comics down. Nice guy, but boy oh boy is that store a mess!!! If you're willing to be very patient and don't mind a lot of clutter give it a shot, but I will be sticking to my main comic stores. read more

My first. Is it here. Yesteryears Comics is a small comic store with a huge selection of new. vintage comics, and comic related curios. The place is PACKED full of comics organized so that they can be quickly checked by staff. I explained to the owner Michael what I was looking for and he quickly gathered up numerous comics according to what I had described. Ended up purchasing about 10 comics in sleeves with boards and will definitely come back. Great comic store with a knowledgeable owner. read more

Sadly, COVID has taken out most of the comic book shops near me. This might be the closest shop that is not one of the conglomerates in the mall. I am happy to support a small locally owned business during these odd times. As you walk in the owner offers you hand sanitizer. Cozy little shop with lots of toys and books to look check out. Good selection of current and older issues. I didn't have much time so I made my selection and took off. Next time I need to spend some more time and dig a little deeper. read more

Owner is pretty nice, and always asks if you need help finding anything, the store has almost every current comic you can think of not so much the vintage. Sells for regular value, a good amount of books as well. I would say the only thing is the space is cramped tight quarters. But a great store would recommend checking it out read more

So-so place overall. Came in with my bf (as he is a funko pop guy) and we've been to a lot of Funko places, but never here before. We didn't spend too much time here, as soon as we walked in the guy (owner?) grabbed the hand sanitizer without saying anything and just held it up until we held our hands out. Umm okay? Not even a hello or hi or welcome? My bf said thank you afterwards and the guy just looked at him and turned around. Why didn't you acknowledge his thank you? Is it really THAT difficult to say you're welcome? How can you run a business that relies on customers, but don't even respect those customers enough to have manners...? But whatever. We continued in. The reviews saying that everything is a mess is definitely true. You really have to dig through. To be honest, the messiness didn't bother me that much, but my bf hated it and thought it was really annoying how we had to squeeze through areas and then move things around to see. I understand that the guy has a small space, and just wants to get as much product in as possible to make as much money as possible. It just translates bad when multiple Pops get ruined from being stacked. There is a decent amount of Pops though! Nothing crazy cool, but a good amount of commons! So that's a plus. My bf said to rate this place a 1 because of how disorganized and straight up messy it is, but I don't think it's the worst place or the worst customer service in the world. So im giving it 2. The guy wasn't very nice to us, but he was pretty nice to the Dad and little kid who was in the store, and talked to him about Star Wars a decent amount. So maybe if you bring your kid who likes Star Wars, he'll actually be nice to you too! read more

I was in the area and decided to check out this store. While this store has a LOT of comics and Funkos, this place is also a fire hazard. Unless you walked in a perfect line, you would be knocking down a TON of material. The place is EXTREMELY CRAMPED with piles of books and boxes everywhere. If the place was 3 times larger, it would still be Extremely cramped. Boxes next to the door were way over my head so if they fell, could easily hurt someone. I am not claustrophobic but even I had to leave after spending 5 minutes in the store read more

Date of most current visit: May 5, 2018 Free Comic Book Day was going on, and I had a list of the books I wanted to get. As the comic book vendors had a limit of three to four books per person (depending on where you went), I split my hunt to three stores within my area - and Yesteryear's Comics was one of them (the other two being Comikaze and Southern California Comics). Let's get this out of the way: Yesteryear's Comics is a very small location located in the same mall where Giovanni's, the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and China Express are located. As such, it can be hard to find what you're looking for in that small of a space. Yet, the owners make the best with what they're given; for the most part, the store is very organized, with newer releases sorted alphabetically on the shelves along the walls. Various comic book and pop culture-related merchandise are assorted amongst the back of the register and the storefront as well. The staff are very friendly and accommodating - for FCBD, they had the Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 soundtrack playing (great choice, btw!). I was able to get the books I had missed on my initial trip out for this year's event. And, seeing how they have discounts on trade paperbacks and graphic novels - as well as a Suicide Squad watch I've got my eye on - I'm already planning my next visit. read more

I went to pick up a copy of walking dead #193 the day after it released. They had copies for $100! I asked why are they charging $100 for a comic that just released and I was answered simply with "supply and demand" I don't feel a comic book store should be marking comics up to that extent, especially after they just released. Thats bad business practices and I will not be returning to yesteryear's and will divert others from going there as well read more

My bf and I were in town and are funko pop collectors and it said the place opens at 11am and so we came at opening since we have other plans today. The worker comes in at 11:01 to clock in and not even open the shop, goes in to the next store and buys a pepsi while the shop is still not open. There was a few other people waiting with us as well. 15 mins after 11 were still waiting and we don't know why there's so much stalling. And so we come to the front and see a sign saying " Temporarily closed - appointment only" At this point, we're just gonna dip cause we didn't know you had to make an appointment to go inside a comic book store read more

This place is really small, but they had some great Free Comic Book Day deals going on, and that's always a good sign that a shop loves their loyal customers. Very helpful and Friendly as the regulars were talking Batman. Best shop for new comics, especially variants including Exclusive Store variants. Become a regular by filling out a previews and never miss a hot book. The experience that I had since last year, 2017, was the reason why I love comics today. It was because of this store that I collect statues today since I discovered the beauty of my favorite characters brought to life. At that time, I was reading the comic book series The Sandman written by Neil Gaiman and published by Vertigo Comics. When I discovered a few merchandises of the series, I was already sold on the product. The first product that I purchased from their store was the DC cover girls Death Statue and the second purchase was the Sandman and Death Bookends. The prices were fair and the associates allowed me to inspect the merchandise to ensure that nothing was damaged. Later, I would buy several comic books and merchandises from the store such as the DC Collectibles New 52 7-inch figure Superboy, Mezco Superman: Red Son, comic books, and more. Also, I recently discovered that the store has comic book covers only sold by yesteryear comics. This can add sentimental value as a collector since I can say that I bought that here in Clairemont, California. The store has: Modern Comic books CGC Comics Graphic Novels Discounted Comics Mezco One:12 DC Collectibles Play Arts Kai Kotobukiya Star Wars model kits Funko Neca Marvel Select Statues Posters Pros: Fair prices. Customer Service. Comic book covers that can only be found in-store only unless sold online. Multiple selections of recently released comics. Hidden collectibles that were recently released. Located near restaurants to have something to eat before/after your visit to the store. Cons: Parking can be bad depending on the time of day. Space can be somewhat cramped so be sure to look at other photos from other people's reviews to have an idea of what the interior looks like. I can't believe there are guys like this still in business!! This guy is your typical "Comic Book Nerd" and his attitude as a local business owner in these days and ages is horrible. I am not a comic book person but right now there is a 6 comic series called Batman Zeropoint which is a crossover with the video game Fortnite. As a crossover comic there is a code in each comic for an exclusive skin or special item that is redeemable in the game. My 11 year old son is a huge Fortnite fan and has to have these comics for the exclusive Fortnite items. To top it off, there are three different covers of the comic, one regular and two alternative with the regular costing $4.99 and the alternatives costing $5.99. In the comic book world I guess there is a thing called New Comic Book Wednesday or NCBW when all of the newest comics are put out for sale. My son and I were trying to find these books and we called this shop and he still had them available so we drove all the way across San Diego to get them. We went inside the shop and the place is a definite a safety hazard with comic books stacked to the ceilings with only a small walkway to the cash register. We get the comics we were after and he rings them up at over $20 EACH!! This guy is scalping the public charging 4X the regular price and on NCBW. If I was interested in entering the comic book world and this was the first shop I ever walked into, this store owners attitude, rudeness, and pricing strategies would have been completely offsetting and I would never get into the hobby. I can't believe how adults will leverage the price on an item for children like this. The second comic of six comes out today and I was talking to another dad getting the comic for his son and he was sharing with me the same experience he had with Yesteryear Comics last week. San Diego is a big city but it's also small when it comes to good customer service and good reviews. I cannot recommend Yesteryear Comics as a trustworthy establishment. If I could give ZERO stars to this business that would be my rating!! read more

Michael Cholak is the owner and a friendly, easy going guy. Just opened up and the store looks great! Very clean and accessible. Good selection of comics from the big 2 down to indy titles. Although Michael mentioned while he'll be carrying an assortment of TPBs he'll be focusing on the books themselves. Cool throw back to the old days ya know?
