Although the course was not effective for me, others may have a different experience. I never feared public speaking, I feared speaking without preparation. I felt confident when I had time to think things through, but if I was calleyyd on spontaneously, I froze. I was the oldest growing up and wasn't allowed to voice my opinion, so I kept quiet. Because of this, as I got older I felt that if what I said wasn't perfect I would be judged. This limiting belief has plagued me all my life. If I was in person or on Zoom and asked to speak to a group I would automatically freeze, then mastered the art of comparing myself to others. I was afraid of public speaking but really wanted to get over it so I tried Toastmasters for about a year and what I didn't like was that after every talk they would critique me in front of everyone. I was a manager for 13 years, and even speaking in front of people I knew and loved always made me tear up. I couldn't find the courage to stand up and talk about anything, not even the things I was most passionate about. I really didn't know what to expect or believe that the Inspired Speaker Program would work for me, but over the past several months I have become increasingly more comfortable in front of a group. I met Lynn at a friends going away party and instantly knew that she was the kind of person that had a zest for life and a talent for making a bright and warm atmosphere. So, it was no surprise to me that she taught a course on female empowerment in finding your voice in "Yes, You Can Speak." I signed up on the spot after only knowing Lynn for a few minutes and I can honestly say that it is one of the best things I've done this year. "Yes, You Can Speak," taught me something that should have been obvious, but I needed her guidance and the love and support from the wonderful group of women/tribe (also now known as "The Cats of Avalon") to see that I always had a voice.
