I never feared public speaking, I feared speaking without preparation. I felt confident when I had time to think things through, but if I was calleyyd on spontaneously, I froze. My inner critic would chime in: "You're rambling! You're not making sense! Hurry up!" And just like that, I'd lose my train of thought and sound anything but clear or confident. I was the oldest growing up and wasn't allowed to voice my opinion, so I kept quiet. Because of this, as I got older I felt that if what I said wasn't perfect I would be judged. This limiting belief has plagued me all my life. If I was in person or on Zoom and asked to speak to a group I would automatically freeze, then mastered the art of comparing myself to others. I was afraid of public speaking but really wanted to get over it so I tried Toastmasters for about a year and what I didn't like was that after every talk they would critique me in front of everyone. It was excruciatingly uncomfortable. I had to push myself to go to the meetings, and It helped a bit but I certainly didn't make the progress I was hoping for. If you have trouble standing in front of tens, hundreds, and thousands of people, if you think you are not good enough, if you speak too fast on the stage, if you can't connect with the audience, if you don't believe that you can get a standing round of applause, then this is a course for you. You will come out believing in yourself, able to connect with the audience and hence engage much better, you will feel comfortable on the stage with words flowing, you will slow down yourself naturally, your body and mind will be in complete harmony. I was a manager for 13 years, and even speaking in front of people I knew and loved always made me tear up. It's true, yes, I CAN speak! Lynn's teachings have allowed me to feel safe again when speaking with others, taking up space and being seen. I used to practice and script before speaking in public.
