My wife and I have been looking for a good oriental restaurant ever since we moved back to the mid -west 3 years ago. Yen Ching may very well be it. Everything was "order from the menu" ( no buffet) which is what we like. We ordered egg rolls and the sweet sauce was very complementary and the hot mustard took my breath away- just as it should. I had the Four Season and my wife had garlic chicken. The sauces were good and the vegetables were slightly crunchy with life which is what we like. The service was very good and the waitress was knowledgeable, polite, and responsive, even though she was very busy. Yen Ching was very worth our 45 min drive to eat there. A trip that we will gladly make again. read more

I ordered crab rangoon, the cream cheese tasted as if it has been sitting out all day (or gone bad), so I only ate one, which was okay as it was very bland. Good crispy wrap, but the cream cheese was straight out of the pack (versus seasoned for flavor). Needless to say, both me and my partner got sick from the crab rangoon. The other food items he received, he stated were good! Just be mindful of spoiled cream cheese. read more

Quality of some of the food has gone downhill over the years. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Robinson, but lack of vegetables in the lo mein and the overwhelming amount of noodles is disappointing. Great food! Friendly staff! We work out of town in Robinson once a year. Hadn't eaten at this restaurant before but figured we would give it a shot. Definitely no regrets. Yen Ching is one of the more delicious eateries in Robinson. And it enjoys ample patronage. Dinner is a busy time for this little restaurant with the fat buddha. Speaking of fat, my two year old nephew really enjoyed his noodles at Yen Ching. (See YouTube). We started with the crab rangoon appetizer (photo). A nice value with six rangoons. Cream seemed a little heavy for my taste, but the rangoons were crisp. Mom had the cashew chicken, her personal favorite and a nice looking dish. I had the garlic shrimp (photo). A very nice dish. The rice was somewhat clumpy, and a few dry areas. Not exceptional, but ok once mixed around the plate. Very large portions. Two meals from each menu item, unless exceptionally hungry. Tables are simple, as is the cutlery and tableware. Service is efficient and friendly. Normally, I would rate this restaurant a 3-4, however, the amount of nice food pushes to 5 five stars. This establishment has been an icon in the community for years. only two years ago it won the "fork in the road" contest on the local TV station WTHI. since that time, there has been a definite downturn in quality. my daughter and I order once or twice every couple of weeks when my wife works overnights, and we have always gotten the same thing pretty much. over the last 5 to 6 months, it hasn't been very good. since COVID, we order out almost entirely. only once in the last 4 months has an order arrived without a serious problem. if it were just a one-off i would not be writing this especially about a local business. but in each instance, it was quality that suffered. one time the dish was prepared without crucial elements, another time the wrong elements, yet another time, no meat included in a chicken chow mien. last nights installment included an egg roll that my daughter said tasted "funny". she got sick immediately after eating supper. My own egg roll was freezer burnt and way overcooked. in each of these instances, except for last night, i contacted the owners or the FB page and was comped meals "sometimes" for the mistakes. being that this was about the 5th or 6 time there was a problem, i decided that i didn't want a "comp" meal. i want the owners to address obvious quality issues. i seriously doubt that this only happens to me as they serve thousands of meals in a week. there has to be others that are having this problem. it's time they stop resting on past accomplishments and address the quality issues they currently have. if i am paying top dollar for the food, i expect it to be RIGHT .....EVERY TIME..and not get attitude when they get it wrong and comp us...and we go to take the comp. It is the only Chinese restaurant in town, so they kind of have a captive clientele, but enough is enough. i will monitor their progress and update this or redact if necessary. read more

Food was good for a small town. It was better than I was expecting. Only negative, they don't offer upgrade to fried rice when ordering entrees so if you want fried rice or noodles a whole extra order has to be made. read more

We have liked going to Yen Ching in the past but recently have been noticing the quality is not the same. We left very disappointed the last time as you can see the rice worm that was included on our plate, this was the first piece that was picked up. More than this we were disappointed with the way the staff handled/didn't handle the situation. This is not to bash on the community but to bring awareness & held accountable. read more

Yen Ching has ruined the chance to like any other Lo Mein ever.. because there is none other that can compare to Yen Ching's Lo Mein!!! Everywhere I go that's not Yen Ching, there's a sad reminder that amazing taste that I love isn't there.. Yen Ching is definitely the easiest choice to one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. This a must for any visiting Robinson. Made to order Chinese restaurant! Staff is always helpful and courteous. They can easily accommodate any types of diets. I personal request no msg in my meals. The General Tso's and Kung Bao Chicken are two of my personal favorites. Appetizers are amazing always got to go with some crab Rangoon and eggrolls. I've never had sweeter Chinese food before in my life. I did not like anything I ordered and would definitely not order the same things again. I would not ever go back here except for there are but a few places to eat in this Podunk town. If I ever do go back, I'll specify that they cook without adding sugar to the recipe. Good food and ample portions, we (4) all had different entres. Sweet sour pork, mandarin fish, mo shu pork, empress chicken , sweet sour soup. All very tasty. Small place with a big flavor. This review is based on service only. I called to see what time the restaurant closed on a Friday night and was told 9 pm. We had a party of 9 that arrived at 8:30 and were told that we would need to get it to go as they closed at 9. Really? You are open for 30 more minutes!! Turn your open sign off at 8:30 if you are going to refuse to serve customers in house after that time. Poor, poor customer service. read more

Friendly service, and the food is decent. Started with the crab Rangoon, they are well stuffed with cream cheese and crab. They bring spicy mustard and sweet and sour sauce. The sweet and sour is served hot which is a nice touch. Finished with Mongolian beef, I did notice everything being sweet, but not as much as other people seem to be complaining about. I have tried a few different things, and each time find myself still craving what I am used to from the dishes. You'll find this restaurant loved by almost everybody in town. I've personally always thought they don't use enough vegetables in the dishes. I've had the sweet and sour chicken, it's sweet, almost to sweet. It's always loaded with chicken with a little bit of pineapple and broccoli. The dish comes with white rice too. I've also had what I believe is a spicy orange chicken. Same complaint as above. We order take out almost always so I can't judge service, but I've always felt their prices are way to high for what you actually get. read more

The food quality and service are very consistent & overall spot on. A+ in my book. I noticed that one of the other "reviewers" on here which gave a negative rating also blasted other great establishments in Robinson with negative ratings. Makes we wonder about other places which I missed out on that I've decided not to go to while traveling because I read some bogus reviewers rant. read more
