We have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally made the time to come visit last week. For those fans of authentic Mediterranean food, this is the place for you! Located on the east side, this little gem is not in the nicest of neighborhoods but don't let that fool you. The food here is outstanding. Parking is limited and more can be found on the side street next to the building. It appears that more people order out here than eat in, but that just meant that we had better service. Our waitress, Sarah, was friendly and warm. We explained that we had never eaten Yemenite food before and she made some great recommendations. Sparsely furnished, the interior was clean, quiet and cool. We ordered the hummus with bread to start, and the soup. My husband had the lamb haneeth and I had the chicken Mandi. He enjoyed a limeade (it reminded us of a non-alcoholic mojito) and I had hot tea. We are already planning our next. Is it back and who to bring with us. Great food and excellent tea. We had the Lamb Haneeth, the rice had a exotic and gentle aroma. The lamb was mildly spiced. The Chicken Kabsa also tasted delicious. They have a fairly wide menu, and I chose these entrees after consulting the server. The tea had a great aroma as well, which I'll ask about next time. Simple-looking place with excellent food. Fabulous food. As often happens in restaurants with phenomenal food, there's not much to look at-- the restaurant is plain and clean. I only had eyes for my food anyway. We delight in trying all the ethnic foods we can, but we've never had anything quite like this. Everything was fragrant with tantalizing spices. Food was amazing. The only issue was they closed at 9pm even though they had a giant banner outside saying open until 10pm. They kicked us out while we were still eating. The girl which I assume is their daughter sat and stared at us until we left. Very creepy and uncomfortable. Make sure you go before 8pm if you want to enjoy your dinner. read more

Saw a video on Instagram by a food blogger recommending this restaurant and it did NOT disappoint! We had the hummus and bread, the best in CLE! We also shared the salad and had the grilled half chicken and a lamb and rice dish. This was the best middle eastern food we've had in the entire CLE area! tears to my eyes man. i am a foul simp, have had it of various ethnic varieties (lebanese, syrian, egyptian) and have never had one like this - extremely rich, had an oil palate adjacent more to indian food but spices still middle eastern. served out of a granite bowling bowl, which is hilarious to see in the places low key backdrop that might've been a local donut shop before or something. they serve you MASSIVE pita that's cooked down with crisped char, but not so much it wasn't too dry. the two took up the size of a pizza plate, they're not playing. the hummus was good, but honestly my favorite part of it was the olive oil they used - could tell it wasn't expired and had an actual olive taste to it we also got the dates and honey dessert, which i couldn't really visualize at first but wow..they prepare the dates like a dry pie crust almost?? not even sure how they do it, because it's just sweet enough beneath a slightly savory, buttery crunch it has, some wizardry going on there. then covered in honey and this delicious plump of butter that also reminds me more of ghee with its consistency. never had a dessert so tasteful as that, unbelievably good have only had like 3 yemeni places before and they all were terrific, but this is just pure creation, and not expensive at all for what you get. The service is outstanding here, there was a nice lady taking us to our table and giving us the food. The food is extremely good and they season it well. The atmosphere is also nice here. The Chicken Mandi and Lamb Haneeth we're delicious. The portions were HUGE! So, if you plan on going there and trying to put down your own plate. This is the food that I crave in the dead of winter when the cold has entered my bones my body has forgotten what "warm" means. The chicken Haneeth falls off the bone and not a drop of moisture was lost in the cooking process. The lamb Agaba is a thick stew with so much lamb that you almost feel bad about it. Their bread comes in huge rolls - close to Naan but also different enough to be interesting and fresh. This is a place I think about when I'm in other cities. This is a place worth the drive from the east side - food so good we eat it in the car because we can't wait to get it home. read more

In a city with a fair number of middle eastern restaurants, Yemen Gate still brings something new to the table. I went in with high expectations and was impressed. Their chicken mandi is great but chicken haneeth is simply amazing; honorable mention to charcoal bbq chicken that is just what it should be, with acceptable degree of char and all. Applicable to all the above three: soft, fall off the bone meat, aromatic rice, just the right amount of spice in the accompanying sauce. For sides, I've found that large rashoush bread with saltah (hot vegetable soup) with their slightly unique twist on the hummus makes the experience fulfilling and unmistakably Yemeni. Covid-19 caused the restaurant to temporarily close for a few weeks (seemed longer) but I'm glad they're back up and going strong. Bonus points for their characteristic Yemeni generosity and friendly service. read more

Unfortunately I must give a poor review to Yemen Gate. I purchased a $25 Restaurant.com voucher, and the same day, spent a hefty $72 for two lunch entrees with coffee and dessert. The food, while expensive, was authentic and tasty. However, when it was time to pay, the owner refused to honor the voucher, sending the young waitress out front, rather than talking to me directly. If he does not intend to honor the Restaurant.com voucher, he needs to contact Restaurant.com to remove the restaurant from it's portfolio. So sadly, although the food was good, I felt the owner did not act in good faith and I will not be returning. read more

One of my go-to places when I need comfort food. I dream of the saltah, a bright, flavorful concoction of root veggies and lamb broth. It's perfection with the hubcap-size rashoosh flatbread. Don't order the chicken kabsa unless you enjoy choking on minuscule chicken bones hidden in rice! I spent 20 minutes trying to pick bones out of my rice and eventually got aggravated to the point I just threw it in the garbage they could've had it in the description to be careful and look for bones.
