First off, thank you so much Yelp cincy for creating this event and giving us the opportunity to try out calligraphy! The event space was awesome, very open and welcoming. I've always wanted to try calligraphy so when I saw this event I was so excited. China was so helpful with every step of learning the basics. She provided tips and tricks of watercolor calligraphy and was very encouraging the whole time! Cindy was so fun and enthusiastic! I also liked that I didn't know a single person there which brought me out of my comfort zone and got to meet some awesome ladies! Can't wait to start practicing more and start creating beautiful pieces of artwork!

This was such a fun event! I loved China's approach and her willingness to walk around and answer one-on-one questions. She was so open and friendly, which really made for a great atmosphere! The set-up at each table was perfect and Instagram-worthy. The self-guided workbook that was provided was very helpful in learning how to form each letter. I really enjoyed chatting with the people around me as we worked in this small setting! The space itself (The Frock) would be great for any occasion. It is very versatile and unique. I would definitely rent it out for an event such as a bridal or baby shower, birthday dinner, etc! Thank you for such a great event, China! I had a fabulous time and it was everything I hoped it would be!

Tables are set for a night of creative fun awesomeness!

This was my first Yelp event and it was totally amazing! First of all, The Frock is a beautiful, simplistic event space-- open yet intimate with beautiful white walls, wood floors and bar, and glass windows. I would describe the vibe as "reclaimed modern". I could easily envision a bridal shower or birthday party in the Frock. Next, the amazing brush calligraphy lesson! China Frost of Olive Paper Co assembled a wonderful tutorial package which included practice sheets for brush strokes and the alphabet (remember those ruled sheets of paper for learning cursive in second grade-- yep, like that!). China showed us the basic brush holds and strokes and then we had freedom to work at our own pace; China was an amazing coach-- super approachable and very kind. The package also included a few sheets of card stock and a couple envelopes for practice-- as well as a print from China-- what a lovely gift! My calligraphy skills are far from Instagram-worthy, but with some practice, maybe I'll get there! A perfect girls-night out-- beautiful venue, fun girly chat time, some bubbles, and a new crafty skill with excellent instruction and take home practice to keep it going! If you see a Yelp event, give it a shot-- you won't regret it! Finally a huge THANK YOU to Cindy for organizing and hosting such a fun event!

    Work in progress!

Had a blast at the Calligraphy class taught by China from Olive Paper Co! I learned I am pretty bad at calligraphy (my work devolved into writing cursive with watercolor paint) but China provided awesome training materials and was patient, nice and clearly passionate about her work. (I do wish she would have shown us a little more of her work, but I'm now getting my fill from her Instagram.) The Frock was a cute space and perfect for the size of the group, and it was fun to meet new people. Overall, a great night where I was able to learn something new!

this class was everything I wanted and then some! Calligraphy is something I've always wanted to try and this Yelp event with China was the ideal scenario. It was low key, fun and a great atmosphere. The watercolor aspect added an additional layer of fun with the multiple colors. I appreciated the non traditional/rules oriented calligraphy approach, but the workbook was very helpful. China was clearly well prepared even though it was her first workshop. Everything was set up so beautifully and the space, The Frock, added to charm of the event! China's work is beautiful and she was a great teacher. Doing a workshop with a small group of friends would be a great social activity! This Yelp event was one of the most fun and social I've been too- everyone was so excited and engaged.

This was my first Yelp event and I LOVED IT. China was so great and kind teaching us skills to begin our future calligraphy careers! She provided such a helpful workbook for us to practice with and some extra take home papers!

Lovely event, and inspiring experience! Thank you Cindy, China, and all other team members for your time, effort, and invitation! Reawakened (is that the right tense) my appreciation for handwriting and cursive! I've been practicing everyday. I appreciated that China went around and gave mini demonstrations! Cindy was funny and entertaining! I only wish there was a bit of food and the event went on longer, I didn't want it to end. I met some cool girls and was really impressed with how quickly we all picked it up only after 2 hours, which shows how awesome China's teaching methods were! The Frock is defiantly a 180° turn around in the right direction. I use to see punk shows here in 2015! Now, it is cute, bright, and with a welcoming charm. I'd love to see how the space is used in the future as it is not very large, yet enough for private parties.

This is a small but MIGHTY stationery store! Every time I travel, I check for stationery stores…read more Let me tell you, it's hard to find stores that focus solely on stationery so I was ecstatic when I found one within 2 hours of me. They have a great collection of pens, pencils, notebooks, and some washi among other things. I love that they have a variety of pens you can test out, including fountain pens. The lady who was working at the counter was super friendly, and kindly pointed out I had picked up a fountain pen to buy rather than the rollerball that I wanted. I'm glad she pointed it out because I would've been sad when I got home.

Really fun, beautiful little store in Cincinnati. They're a stationery store; a dying breed! I…read moredidn't actually intend to buy anything when I entered, but I love stationery stores so I had to stop in since it was next door to the other shop I'd stopped in. Paper wings has writing paper; pencils and pens; greeting cards; erasers; so much more. You'll find paper clips--but in fun shapes like cats or bunnies; no standard paper clips here. Lots of washi to use decoratively in your projects. Fountain pens and ink (most of the ink I saw was Lamy, but they may have had other brands I didn't see). Wandering through here kind of made me wish I used pencils, because they had some really cool pencils and even fun pencil sharpeners that I wanted to use (unfortunately, I've hated pencils for just about my entire life; yet still, it was hard to talk myself out of buying those blacking pencils). I left with a bunch of little treasures, including the aforementioned cat-shaped paperclips and several unique greeting cards. I really love to send cards, and tend to go a little overboard when buying them (I have dozens of cards but not a ton of people to send them to), so that was dangerous as soon as I stepped in. But perhaps the item I'm most excited about is the wax sealing tools I bought--a seal that says "hello", pink and bronze colored winkles wax sticks, and a melting spoon. I've thought about buying wax and accessories for a while but I literally never send letters anymore... but then decided since I do love sending cards, it would be nice to add a special little flourish to make personal correspondence just that much more special.
