There are several branches of this store around Cincinnati, but we chose this location because it has the largest selection of Charley Harper art. For those unfamiliar with Charley Harper, he was a famous artist who trained and did a lot of his work in the Cincinnati area. A lot of his work focused on wildlife and was done in a modernist style. This location carried a wide variety of products in Charley Harper and the Harper Family art line. In addition to some beautiful prints, there were also items like puzzles, ornaments, stationary, and a lot more. We spent a lot of time just looking at everything. It wasn't hard to locate - as soon as you walk through the door, there are floor to ceiling framed prints to check out. In addition to Charley Harper's work, we also saw a number of Edie Harper (his wife)'s work too. This is a good place to go if you are a Charley Harper fan or if you are shopping for one. Service was satisfactory - the employees didn't hover but were available if you had questions or needed help.

Michael's also carries gifts, and holiday decorations. For being there not long after they opened, the store was not particularly clean. A number of products were on the floor. Not because they were intentionally put there to be restocked, but people dropped them there, or they got knocked off the shelf the day before, and they were waiting to be put back. Several products did not have prices. There were several buy one get one sales going on. I was passed by several employees. None of them greeted me or asked if I needed help finding anything. At one point I was standing next to two employees. One associate told the other "I'm going to walk around and look like I'm busy." The cashier on the other hand was friendly. She asked if I found everything I was looking for. She also inquired if I was a rewards member. She made sure to bag items with care.

About the norm. If…read moreyou've ever been to a Michaels before, or better yet if you've ever been to multiple Michaels before, you'll find that they're all about the same. On the positive side, they have a great framing department, and everything you can think of when it comes to crafting and DIY hobbying. They also have a lot of fun and different baking items and molds to work with for holidays or parties. On the downside though, understaffed. Almost always. Even at their busiest times, which is usually the Christmas holiday season, always understaffed. At times, I've waited in line for up to 25 to 30 minutes to check out. You have a store full of people, you have six to eight registers, and you have two registers open with a line of 20 people deep. Would I go back? Yes, I would. And I will go back. Michael's is its own thing. I'm not saying there aren't other craft or hobby stores like it, but Michael's has what I need. Unfortunately though, I dread having to go there. At least during times when I know it's going to be busy. Here's a tip: If you're going to go to Michaels, make it during a weekday or non-peak time like a weekend or during the holiday season.
