I was at the French…read moreQuarter and decided to just "walk to Kind Ice Cream" in the middle of summer in +30C weather, without water because it's "so close." I don't live in this area, so the walk was further than I had anticipated. So I got to Kind Ice Cream already feeling the effects of some heat stroke. And while ice cream isn't probably the best solution (drinking water would be better) it's not the worst, right? Ice cream is a good idea, or the dairy-free alternative is since I'm lactose-intolerant. Kind Ice Cream has three choices for me from their regular menu, and they usually have a dairy-free alternative in their rotating menu. I went for one of their standards Lemon and Jammy Raspberry. I'm a fan of anything Raspberry flavour and this was delicious. My first visit at Kind Ice Cream but not my last. 0 out of 5 for heat stroke. 5 out of 5 for the ice cream.

Lots of regular classics and a good choice of monthly new flavors too. This local shop is tucked in by the bookstore & liquor store stripmall and across from the restaurants, butcher and coffee on the 4 corners (as the locals call it in Ritchie). As it is a small shop (aka small bench inside), I usually grab a pint or if the weather is nice, a cup or cone to enjoy outside. There's some benches just at the corner and some sitting options if you cross the ave. Parks nearby, including a dog park and Millcreek Ravine. Both not far. Just depends on how active you want to be when you enjoy your ice cream. Price point is average for what is being charged in Edmonton. So this is still in a treat category.

Their whole menu does look amazing and while my tastebuds say yes to ice cream my stomach says no. At most ice cream shops I'll be lucky to find a sorbet to enjoy. Made By Marcus has three regular non-dairy options Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Snickerdoodle, and Prairie Fairie Sorbet. I'll be honest I haven't tried the sorbet, but the other two flavours are delicious. They also have four rotating seasonal flavours that change each month, and one of those will be vegan and so good for me. This month November 2025 the vegan flavour is Poached Pear and Brown Sugar Streusal. It is heavenly and I went to Made By Marcus two days in a row for this. You can get most of their flavours in to-go pints and I'm pretty tempted to pick this up. Downside to Made By Marcus is the line outside will be crazy in the summer. But no problem getting in at 6pm on a random Wednesday in November for some reason. They also are not across from my house and I really think my neighbors across the way should move out so Made By Marcus can move in. In my dreams I can try their Earl Grey Cassis Royale or the Sea Salt & Goat Milk Caramel ice creams and not be hurt. So give those a go cause they sound amazing.

We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 8:45pm). The worker was friendly and let us sample a couple flavours. There were 24 flavours of gelato and sorbet. I was shocked to see that the prices haven't changed; $4.90 (single), $5.90 (double) and $7.50 (triple). - Triple ($7.50) - pineapple, mango and passionfruit. Texture was luscious. Pineapple was light and airy. The mango was the perfect sweetness. The passionfruit was creamy but sadly didn't have any tartness. Perfect way to end our night. Love La Carraia.

Wish you could get smaller portions as 4 scoops is a lot of ice cream. We tried the Cherry/lemon, Tres Leches, Salted Caramel , and Match Mint chip. Match mint was 9/10 good. Overall texture of the ice creams was 10/10 - very creamy, rich, smooth. I also sampled the banana honeycomb and it was 10/10. They're not quite at a full 80 flavours just yet, but she assured me that she was bringing more in very soon. I was quite content with the choices that were available and had a hard time narrowing it down. I can't imagine if there had been more! They hope to be able to expand this year and open a second location (either a fixed location or a roving one for special events). The owner is really sweet and has all the details of her flavours packed in her brain. She answers all the questions quickly and offers great suggestions!! For my first visit I went with the "cheeky monkey" frozen yogurt which is a mixture of strawberry and banana with chocolate chunks. Delicious! I would definitely get it again, but not until I make it through the rest of the menu. There's obviously a great variety... but it's not just ice cream. They also offer frozen yogurt, sorbet, and sherbet. Prices are great... $4 for a single, $6 for a double, and an extra dollar for a waffle cone. The "single" fills an entire styro cup though, so you get a lot for your money.
