Everyone knows parking at the government buildings is a challenge. I discovered this first hand when I was interviewing for a position with the State of Oregon. I'd allowed myself 30 minutes time to find parking, get situated and properly prepare. Unfortunately, there was NO parking to be found.
As I circled the block a third time, watching the clock tick down, I started to go into panic mode. I wish I'd known how these lots worked at the time. It can be very intimidating for someone new to the city, with so many signs restricting you from parking anywhere close.
Long story short, I found a spot and walked about six blocks to my interview. I got the job.
My first few days, I was instructed to park in the Yellow Lot, as its the closest to my building. It was easy to find, a beautiful location, adjacent to the State Capital park lawn.
$6/day is pretty reasonable, and was well worth the convenience my first few days. I realize that most people has already started telecommuting when I started, making the choice parking spots easier to come by, and know I need to start thinking about my alternatives once the Stay at Home order is lifted. read more
