Yes, as it can't simply be the yummy, chocolaty fattening cakes! Mackey's is no exception to good home cooking! The breads, scones, cakes, pastries and tarts on offer here are vast and delicious! It's hard not to walk out with a box full of stuff. just to try! And everything I have tried had been so great and fresh that I can't help coming back for more! The fried bacon and sausage looked rather nice so I had that with their fresh soda bread and tea which was served up quickly and was as good as it looked. There were also things chicken and broccoli bake, lasagne and chips along with scones. A great spot for a straightforward refuel with no pretensions to anything other than coming up with the goods.

Upstairs is the cafe/tea shop - there is always a delicious range of food available to view on the hot plate, my favourite is the filled baked potato with bacon and cheese, closely followed by the quiche with salad or the vegetarian pizza slice. Jefferson's has a real traditional homely charm that makes a refreshing change from subway or Starbucks.

I particularly enjoy the large vol-au-vents they do, and I often pop in to see if they have any in, but unfurtunately one of the problems with Hedley's is, they don't have a great range, so I imagine you have to be in quite early to get a decent selection. I also tried one of their pre-packaged sanwiches, which was ham and cheese on brown bread, and it was not far off being inedible, the bread was dry and the ham and cheese were of poor quality, but I was pretty hungry and it did the job.
