Downstairs is the bakery, where…read moreone can purchase a huge range of delicious cakes, buns, breads and sandwiches to take out. Their filled sodas are absolutely delicious - I have tried numerous times to make them myself at home, but they never taste as good as they do in Jeffers. Celebration cakes can also be made to order here, including platters of goddies such as sausage rolls and vol-au-vents. Upstairs is the cafe/tea shop - there is always a delicious range of food available to view on the hot plate, my favourite is the filled baked potato with bacon and cheese, closely followed by the quiche with salad or the vegetarian pizza slice. They can also make up cold meals such as salads or sandwiches to order.

The cafe upstairs offers a nice range of homemade lunches or which I actually love their salads. Mainly as they justify the cake I proceed to have after it! Plus it's fresh and delicious too. They also make cakes to order if you've a birthday or special occasion coming up and the prices across the board in here are fairly good! Jefferson's has a real traditional homely charm that makes a refreshing change from subway or Starbucks.

Just see the images below.. Prices are very reasonable and the staff are always friendly. The interior is very modern too which is refreshing in comparison to some of the other coffee shops Lisburn has to offer.

The Lisburn store has two floors- downstairs on entering you are suddenly hit with the beautiful aroma of freshly brewed coffee, then your eyes are drawn immediately to the various cakes, scones and tray bakes sitting on top of a counter with paninis, wraps, sandwiches and more tasty delights below. The menu here is on the wall and is always pretty hard to choose from as everything sounds so good. Each time I have been in there has been a small queue but this gives you time to browse the menu and decide which cake tempts you most. The staff are friendly and prices are average for a coffee shop. The interior is fresh and well designed with a lift for disabled access. Upstairs there is a large seated area and the wall display of old coffee distribution sacks are very eye-catching. I fully recommend their French toast which comes piled with crispy bacon and maple syrup washed down with an iced caramel coffee (healthy I know!!)

Visited the Speckled hen a few weeks back for a family members 30th on a Tuesday evening. Heard…read moregreat reports and read great reviews. The menu was just up my street. With an extensive wine and craft beer choice there is something for everyone! On arrival we were a little confused to where the dining area was as we came in what we knew later to be the back bar entrance. Leading us into a separate dining area which had no one about. The bar staff were busy and didn't catch on that we were a little lost. A member of our party tried a door which took us into the restaurant area. We had a good table and it was relatively busy for a Tuesday. It turns out Tuesdays are a night with steaks on offer also, a good deal but I knew what I wanted before I got there. I chose the local scallops, black pudding crumb, lobster & parmesan infused risotto this looked great on arrival however I quickly spotted there was no black pudding and an addition of chopped king prawn to the risotto. The dish was a little bland but with additional parmesan it improved. Another lady with my party did not enjoy the risotto at all and really only ate the small scallops on top. For main course I went for the flat iron steak having loved it at another restaurant. I was informed by the waitress it was served pink... My favourite way for a steak! When the food was delivered there was a little mix up and tooing and froing. What seemed like a little misunderstanding over surf with some turf, kinda felt like a big deal to one of the waitresses. Having tucked in I could see the steak was more medium-well and as i bit in realised it was very tough, chewy and over cooked. I tried another bit and it was the same. I brought this to the attention of another waitress who quickly took it away. She returned to assure me another was on the way and that they would speak to supplier as this was unusually tough cut. I got my replacement which was exactly how I had imagined however my whole party had finished their meal and I felt a little like I as holding them up. We had brought our own cake for dessert and organised for the obligatory candles, parade and song. However before taking the cake out the waitress didn't check our table and it was missed by the guys Mum and daughter who'd went to the bathroom. Id tried to make eye contact to kitchen door but Birthday spotted her and she had to continue. Ha what a palava! We got no plates or forks with the heavily iced bday cake which we had to chase. I don't know what to make of here. Nearly want to try it again due to food being quite nice, friendly but inconsistent service and the great reputation it has built. Maybe this was an off night?

Their steak night is every Tuesday and consists of 2 8oz steaks 2 sides and 2 sauces for £23, what a bargin. Steaks cooked to perfection and believe me I'm not shy at sending a steak back if it overcooked (if it's not rare it's not worth eating). They also do a great breakfast menu at weekends which is the perfect way to start your weekend. The bar has a great selection of beers, wines, spirits as well as a fantastic selection of craft beers including their very own.
