Unfortunately, the three times I've tried to utilize Yellow Cab over the past couple of years have all turned out to be an epic fail in some way. Let's just say you'll get much better service from the competition, and although Yellow Cab's phone number is easy to remember (777-7777), believe me, those 7s will bring you no good luck whatsoever.
My first experience with Yellow Cab occurred when I made a pickup appointment two days ahead of time, as my dog was injured and needed to get to the vet to have her stitches removed. My reason for calling so far ahead of time were due to the needs for a dog-friendly cab and a very specific pickup time. On the day and time of the scheduled departure, nobody showed up, with no prior phone call or warning, and upon calling the dispatcher, I was given a vague "Oh, we're still trying to locate a cab that can get to that area." That was it - not even an apology, much less a cab ride! So, if you can just visualize walking four miles in a snowstorm carrying a 60 pound German Shepherd in your arms to the vet because the cab company flaked, believe it - it happened to me!
The second experience occurred when I was trying to catch a ride home after work at about 3am from the bus depot, which happens to be in a not-so-nice part of Thornton. I called about 45 minutes ahead of time while still on the road to ensure there would be no lag time, as this particular area is pretty shady even in the middle of broad daylight, much less in the middle of the night. In addition, I was carrying a large sum of cash, so getting out of this not-so-nice area quickly was pretty crucial. Upon arrival to the bus depot, there was no cab waiting. Three or four calls to the dispatcher over the next hour again resulted in the same vague reply as my previous experience: "Oh, we're still trying to locate a cab that can get to that area." I wound up walking home that morning - a full 7+ miles. Two hours after I got home, and a total of almost five hours after the initial call was placed, I got a call from the dispatcher - "Hi, are you still looking for a cab?" Uh, no...
The third and final experience occurred when I was literally only about half a mile or so from their dispatch center on 41st Avenue and needed to get south of downtown. About an hour and 15 minutes passed, and still no cab. Meanwhile, I called the competition, who arrived in about 10 minutes.
Keep in mind that all three of these experiences occurred during normal weekday, non-holiday, non-weekend, non-busy periods, and I wasn't exactly asking for a ride to China, yet they still couldn't follow through, even with reservations and several hours of advance notice.
Many locals have told me that Yellow Cab, for some reason, has issues dealing with any destinations that are in the North Denver/Westminster/Thornton/Northglenn area - something about it being too far out of their coverage area. Not sure what the problem is, as the dispatch center for the competition is even further away from these areas than Yellow Cab is, and they provide awesome, timely service.
Avoid this company like the plague. Oh yeah, and their iPhone app is worthless. Call Metro Taxi instead! read more
