So we walked in and was a little concerned that restauraient was empty but the pub was full. Our fears were quickly squashed. It appears that they only want to sell the beer to the smokers outside and while every pub can appear to look like that, there are pubs where you don't feel that it's their main goal. Mayfair is one of the most exclusive and expensive area's in London. On that basis it should have some of the nicest pubs ? I worked in Mayfair for ten years and found very few pubs that I would call "nice". Now I am not saying that this one is nice but I did tend to go there quite a lot. Dark, dirty feeling, old and need of a good clean / tidy up with unhelpful bar staff is what I would say about this place. It does however seem to be the meeting point for all the workers in the area after work and especially on a Friday night. Maybe I am right in saying that that there are very few pubs in the area that are good and this for some strange reason is the pub of choice. Being in Mayfair it is expensive, if you have reason to be there, then maybe you will be attracted by whatever power it has. If you have no reason to be there, go somewhere else. read more

Nice dark atmospheric pub in the heart of Mayfair's Shepherds Market, well known for its history as London's centre for prostitution in victorian times. Shepherd's Market offers a different type of relief these days as a secluded part of Mayfair full of boutique shops and quality restaurants. The pub has recently gone through a refurbishment, although has kept all the character from its past. High ceilings, cosy little drinking corners, dark wood panelled walls and quite a few stuffed animals and angry looking trouts in glass cases. There's a good selection of drinks available.The best time to go is during a good summers day, where people gravitate outside making it feel like a trendy village of sorts. It's also one of the only places in Mayfair to open its door on the weekend. It can get very busy here so the staff can seem a little unfriendly as they get rushed off their feet! A good cosy winter drink indoors or a vibrant summer drinking hole. It's one of those places that you'll either love or hate. read more

Looking for food on New Years Eve night is hard. But their roast and sides for £11.95 was too good to pass up. I had the beef, which was moist, delicious, and pulled apart with a fork. It came with mash, parsnips, yorkshire pudding, mixed veg and gravy. The jasmine tea was just the thing. My boyfriend had the lamb with the same sides and a pint. He was equally as pleased. The bill came to about £31. Pricy, but worth it for good food and a nice atmosphere. read more

We spent a few nights at the Hilton around the corner from this pub, so we stopped by a couple of times, both for drinks and for food. The downstairs pub is cozy, with a great drink selection and excellent bartenders. I got my only Pimm's of the trip here, and it was delicious. Beer and mixed drink prices were both reasonable. The Thai food upstairs is an odd addition, but it works! We had a great lunch here at a decent price. My husband's green curry wasn't as hot as he hoped, but my red gaeng phed curry was excellent. He enjoyed the chicken satay appetizer and my spring rolls were yummy as well. Don't be scared by the pub/Thai combo; this is a nice little spot for both food and drinks. read more

Woah, woah, woah! I'm in shock! This place is freaking AMAZING. I am American, but I don't consider myself a tourist - especially in Mayfair - as I'm here quite often for work. In the years and years I've been staying at the Dorchester, I've never been into Ye Grapes until just this week. I usually see a huge crowd outside and inside on weekdays after work hours, and a decent crowd on weekends. The other evening when we stopped in, there really weren't too many people in at all. The pub has incredibly high ceilings and a lot of decor going on - flags, animal heads, signs - crazy. There are a few TV's in the corners of the interior, but they weren't turned on when we were there. We ordered our drinks and decided to sit by the sweet little fireplace since it was FREEZING outside. After deciding on the steak and mushroom pie and two thai dishes, we placed our order. It came out fairly quick, and I've got to say - the pad thai was some of the best I've had as of recent. The pie - also insanely good (it was served as a bowl of steak/mushroom/gravy with a slice of pie crust laying on top). I found the seating to be plentiful (with bar table and regular seating options), and everything was clean. The restroom was very clean. It's a pub. It's not fine dining. And I'm sure it can get annoyingly crowded, especially on week nights in the summer. But for all intents and purposes, my visit was great and I will be eating/drinking there again. read more

It alarms me that this is a British pub that serves Thai food, but the British pub bit of the operation is pretty good. On a Friday after work, we were able to get a table and it wasn't so packed or so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. I noticed a couple of tourists, but the crowd was mostly the business/government after work set. The bar staff were friendly and my wine was good. I'll go back to this place if I'm in the area again. This little pub always seems to have a happy/enthusiastic atmosphere and nearly always has an empty table or two. It is in an uber-touristy area behind Green Park station...but is normally filled with office workers rather than tourists. Things I like: * Not too pricey * Lovely friendly staff * Loooads of space to drink outside if you come with a very large group (I've led hundreds of people to this little courtyard after events at the Japanese Embassy!!) * Once I came here at the weekend, and the place was full of country dancers! They were hilarious!! Things I'm less keen on: * The loos really, really stink. They must have a sewage problem as it is always smelly despite all the air fresheners they use to attempt to mask the smell. Hold your nose before descending into the stench! * I've only had bar snacks like the spicy chicken wings or chips... it's not terrible, but i certainly wouldn't come here looking for a bite to eat!! read more

A decent pub just off of Piccadilly, this place was chosen for it's distance to Hyde Park, seating, and availability of alcohol. As it was, this turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. We got a place to sit, drinks and, surprisingly, Thai food. Now I would never ordinarily order thai food in a pub, but they had a completely separate menu for ordering it, and it smelled really good! I went for the favourite, Pad Thai and it was delivered a short while later, still steaming and glistening on the plate. The prawns were plump and juicy and the noodles had a nice bit to them, supplied chili sauce went down well. Drinks were... typical pub drinks, pints of beer and cider available. Apparently the house red was quite good too. Monopoly Pub Crawl - Stop #11 - Mayfair (Dark Blue) To knock off another colour group, we stopped by Ye Grapes to get our Mayfair space signed. This is a small pub, but the bar staff have truly excellent banter and that alone makes it worth a stop. As with many pubs, it had the usual stuff and a few seasonal offerings. We tried one of the Xmas options with was a dark bitter ale - not my usual stuff but actually fairly good. When I say small, our group of 8 (plus 3 tag-a-longs) pretty much filled up the standing room section. It seems to be popular with locals given the number of middle aged men sitting around the pub sipping their pint and I guess the location (slightly off the beaten path) keeps it away from too many tourists. A quick half pint down and we were off so I sadly can't tell you much more than that but I hear they do have Thai food somewhere in here! read more

'Ye Grapes' - Sounding like the exclamation of an English baron from the middle ages with a particularly bad case of 'roids - the pub is an altogether more charming vision! But after finding myself herded into the restricted outside area, under the eye of security with a pint of Marstons Vinegar (oh wait Marston Pedigree you say? For beers this pub is in a great location and has a good selection. My beers were not as cold as I would have liked, but I like beer so I drank it and enjoyed the company. For food I would go to one of the close by restaurants. The thai food was the downfall. It's not that I was put off by a pub serving thai food. I have no problem with that, but the food was not that good. Some of it was decent, some was not. My dish was very bland and not enjoyable. It would have been nice to be able to add a little spice to it, but when we asked the only thing they could offer was soy sauce. read more

This is a good old 'traditional' pub. It's not hugely spacious, but it's certainly not small either, and everyone seems to squeeze in amiably enough. There's a reasonable selection of quite palatable ales, and service is fast and efficient (although possibly somewhat disengaged). Drinks prices are a bit steep (£3.50 for a pint of real ale?), but not quite extortionate. If you're looking for a decent pint in Mayfair, you could do much worse than here. read more

If Shepherd Market is like a little village nestled within Mayfair, then Ye Grapes is the village pub. It's got dark green walls, lots of stuffed deer heads and birds of prey, and a selection of ales. Some of the tables are in little nooks, or separated by half-walls, so you can seclude yourself away from the larger crowd if you want. It can be a bit gloomy, though. And the prices aren't cheap. Stop by if you're in the area and it's a nice day, but not worth a special trip. read more

After a couple of festive drinks at The Dorchester, we decided to down scale a bit (and mainly because we'd just spent a lot of cash on two rounds at The Dorchester). The plus about this pub is the staff were really nice and they had a fire going. Perfect for a winters day. It wasn't too busy, but this was on a Saturday and this area is usually busier weekdays (have passed by many times during the week and this pub is overflowing). Drinks were reasonably priced and one of our friends commented on the good selection of ales. The minus points, it was quite bright in here and they had on the TVs even though no one was watching them. Please turne the TVs off when there is no reason to have them on (it was on the news not something you want to see in a pub). read more

Excellent Thai food, Excellent selections of libations. Stopped here a year ago and had an awesome meal with a selection of fine cask ales. This pub feels very traditional inside, and is well suited to the quaint surroundings of Shepherd's Market. Signs advertise the serving of Thai food, which always strikes me as an oddity in pubs in which you would expect to find more traditional fare. The service I experienced was friendly and fast, with tea being brought over to the table with a smile. A large glass of wine was not up to much, and came in just over £5. This may be a good pub to show-off to foreign visitors, as it is quite quintessentially English. read more

Nice old Victorian building from the outside, a bit weathered on the inside - but lively atmosphere downstairs. However, the few times I've been has been for the Thai restaurant upstairs. It is definitely a bit shabby in terms of decor, but the food is good, fairly quick and inexpensive. Good Pad Thai, curries, stir fries, etc. for £6.50 or so each. Easy dinner option when you're in the neighbourhood. read more

Good example of a well priced english pub in an expensive area of london. They have a selection of Thai and english food, the dishes we had were all well cooked and delicious. It's not a gastro pub but it's a grade above the normal crank the wheel pub grub that's so common in london. Also loved the real ales and friendly staff. Definitely worth popping in to see shepherds market if you're looking for somewhere not too expensive to while away a couple of liquid hours in Mayfair or Green park. read more

A traditional pub which could be great but is let down by poor service. Yes, it does get busy, but the staff have often seemed disinterested even when I've been only one of two people waiting to be served. Shepherd Market really comes into its own during good weather when people spill out onto the pavement, drink in hand, and the area has a really buzzy atmosphere. My advice is, if you're drinking here get your most patient or conspicuous-looking mate to go in for the drinks, failing that go to one of the other pubs in the area for friendlier more efficient service and the same outdoor experience. read more
