My mom and I with Pinky!
    Lincy H.

Paint Nite is AWESOME. It'll be a perfect night out with your girlfriends or your significant other. TIP#1: There are almost always $25 groupon deals, so it is definitely worth the price. TIP#2: Pregame beforehand and/or buy some drinks inside the venue. (But drink responsibly and don't drink and drive!) The more tipsy you get, the more fantastic your painting gets. As Kevin Pride said to me, "The beer is working!" TIP#3: Arrive at least 15 minutes earlier to ensure that you can sit with the people you want to paint with! The event lasts about 2 hours. First time I went to Paint Nite with my 2 girlfriends and we had an amazing time. We painted the Love Birds and were laughing throughout the whole night. One of us even went up to participate in the mini dance competition. If you win, you get a prize! Second time I went to Paint Nite with my mommy. We painted the Spring Blossoms. It was nice because my mom doesn't usually go out. I'm not quite sure if it was her thing, but trying new things is always good! TIP#4: Have a positive attitude! Discouraged that your painting isn't turning out as nicely as you wanted it to? Ask for help and they'll help you with it!!! In Pinky's words, "Having faith in your abilities sets no boundaries for your talents!" As for the instructors, they are absolutely amazing!!! Both Kevin Pride and Nicole "Pinky" St. Denis are so much fun. They are just great at what they do. Vincent was very kind and helpful :) TIP#5: Paint Nite isn't just in Somervilla, MA. Check www.paintnite.com to see if they do it around your area! TIP#5: HAVE FUN!!!

BUYER BEWARE. ZERO view of instructor guaranteed so if you enjoy painting the back of your neighbor's head while his elbow is jammed into your neck, Paint Nite is for you. Cattle car seating while you paint - Paint Nite has this down to an art. Never mind whether Paint Nite is supposed to be instructional, must be more pleasant painting sitting on top of each other without seeing what you're supposed to be painting. Brilliant business of maximizing profitability per square inch - don't take up too much space or you'll ram into the lucky painting / painter next to you.

Have you heard of paint nite? Where you buy an admission ticket based on art/date/time/location (usually a restaurant) of your choosing, and you get to see a demo of how that painting is done and make one for yourself (or, get inspired to paint something completely different). supplies are included (canvas, paint). you can eat/drink prior/during/after at the restaurant, but my experience tells me drinking is more recommended than a full on meal (no space or time!) during the lesson. now they take that idea to making a terrarium instead of artwork. but i'm guessing due to the nature of the activity (ex. container, soil, gravel, decorative little rocks), many restaurants don't want to bother with that cleanup (only seen a couple steady locations so far), and/or there are too much to transport. so they actually have established a "headquarter" here (where we went), just a venue with tables and chairs, supplies storage, and a gigantic bar. drinks are like dance club prices (slightly better quality and much less slammed lol), and it's a much brighter room. really something anyone can do at home without much knowledge or talent LOL. but it's still a great time to have given the right company. and you get to eat the yummy food in the neighborhood! just note that parking can get a bit difficult so it's wise to arrive early and carpool. agreed with Jeannie D on the pricing as well. but given the materials provided being different (and more), the pricing differential is expected, just not thinking it should be $10/pax more than paint nite. though alternately, you should be able to obtain all the supplies from HD/Lowe's or local nursery and Michael's (Dollar Store/Xmas Tree Shop may have some for cheaper), and make one (or ten) yourself for less than the admission fee.

    Paint Nite @ Grafton Street

A few friends and I attended "Malbec and Monet" at Grafton Street tonight, and had an absolute blast. As grad students, my friend had inquired about a student discount, and they were happy to oblige with a 20% discount! Just a few minutes and a couple sips in - we had already decided it was worth it. Our master artist, Shannon Pan, was excellent. She was a super sweet, gave excellent instructions and helpful hints! We were all happy with our final products, despite minimal painting experience! Also, huge bonus - free drinks if you upload a picture to Facebook or write a Yelp review. Such a great way to spend an evening!

My friend and i had a nice time here today. We painted owls. I thought it was kind of odd thats its held in the back of a bar. The food looked amazing. Instructer was nice, till i was having an issue and was hoping for help but the response was "its only a 2 hour class".... Ok? What does that have to do with anything? By the time the class was over, it had only been 1 1/2 hours. So what was the big deal on 2 hours when you finished way early???? I did get my paint at home out and touched up stuff since she was in such a hurry to finish. Anyway, other than that, i had a nice time and love my painting.

Awesome date night! If your person is ok to get their hands dirty, this is a great date night idea. It's just like Paint Nite. Similarly, they partner with restaurants to host a night where you design a terrarium or plant pot. I chose to go with the "Succulent Terrarium in Double Wooden Drawers" event because it was the only Friday one in the city (too lazy to travel to Somerville after a work week). See their facebook page for events in Boston. What made it a no brainer was that Groupon was offering a 50% off option, too. Once your purchase the Plant Nite Groupon, you still have to go to the Plant Nite website to sign up for the specific event. To my dismay... there are still material fees. It ended up being $24.50/person with the Groupon and another $10/each for the materials. So not bad, though it doesn't include a meal/drinks. Make sure you browse around for promotion codes, there seemed to be a lot out there. I recommend the chrome extension, Honey, which will scan the web for you once you get to check out pages. We ate at home because the event started at 7pm, but usually the restaurants are pretty good. This one was hosted at Brandy Pete's, which is your typical sports bar. You can eat during the event, but it gets pretty messy (I mean, you're working with dirt here), so I'd recommend eating before and getting drinks once you get there. One last thing I'll mention - the instructor was awesome. She wasn't like chatting you ear up or giving a ton of instructions. She basically just put all the materials on the table and let us get creative!

i'm far from an artist but i can be when i'm drunk. :) Basically, an artist will walk you through the painting step by step. So you don't need to have any prior experience. If you can draw stick figures, you're much better than me. Even if you don't necessarily have a clue of what you're doing, you'll be fine. All paint supplies are provided so you don't need to bring anything. All paint nite events is located in a bar of some sort. So drink up!

Went to a paint night last night with my boyfriend and it was a great time. That was the first time we did something like a paint night. We are planning to go back and do other things with Yaymaker.

I suggest arriving 30 minutes early, so that you don't get stuck in the line waiting for paints and can focus on importing things like buying a glass of wine. It also helps to be seated near the small stage in front so that you can easily see the example completed painting on the wall. They rotate through a selection of different ones, which are specified on the website when you buy your tickets, so don't pick a class that will paint a lame one like the happy dolphin! Also, you need to see the instructor, who will demonstrate painting an additional example on the stage. The instructor was quite funny, and fairly clear in explaining the individual steps one by one, although she went pretty quickly. The full 2 hours are necessary to complete the painting, and if you fall behind, you will miss some of the tricks or paint combinations. If you bring a date, be sure to praise how much better his or her piece is than yours, over and over again. Artists are sensitive, and who knows, you might get lucky later. If you have talent, maybe your painting will end up in Somerville's Museum of Bad Art, and not in a garage sale!

A huge reason for that was Haley -- she is truly one of the kindest, friendliest people I've ever met. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel so welcome and excited to be there. Haley was caring, compassionate, attentive, and incredibly warm. She helped us with everything we needed and made the whole experience feel easy and fun. You can tell she genuinely cares about the people who come in and wants everyone to have a great time. She honestly made the whole experience so special -- we love her! I was so impressed by the huge variety of crafts they offer -- from tufting, to Cricut projects, to making small hot pots and so much more. There are so many creative things to try! I will definitely be coming back all the time to craft here. If you're thinking about going, DO IT -- you'll have an amazing time. The experience was somewhat fun, though, with a huge variety of beads to choose from -- almost too much, to the point where it felt like bead-induced stress. You're mostly paying for the experience since the bracelet itself wasn't very durable; my friend's bracelet broke a few days after, and mine did too. I felt disappointed since I wanted something my friend and I could hold on to for a long time (ESPECIALLY since we both spent so much time making it!). Would I splurge on another bracelet-making adventure at Crafts Zone? Probably not. I'd rather not pay top dollar for something that fragile.
