Located on weekdays during work hours at Perry Square, Ernies is a small, locally-owned food truck that offers up Erie's own Smith hot dogs, Italian sausages, hamburgers, turkey burgers, cheesesteaks, steak wraps, BLTs, pulled pork sandwiches, and more. It's a safe menu, sure, but Ernies makes every meal fresh and made-to-order. This means that it takes a little longer (my Italian sausage with onions and peppers took probably 6-7 minutes), but being so fresh and at an extremely reasonable price of $4, it was well worth the wait - especially considering the guys behind the counter were personable and more than willing to chat with me while they were cooking, as it wasn't too busy. From out of town and need to get a fresh Smith's hot dog (aka the best hot dog on the planet)? Here's your chance. As much as I love Sara's for what it is, I've never liked that their dogs sit on the burners for way too long. Here, you don't have to worry about that. Support these guys. They're local... and if they do well, who knows? I'd say there is plenty of room for all three. The owner served me the pulled pork sandwich, which she said they smoke themselves and make fresh every day. For $6, it was a good portion (with a side of mac salad) and indeed, it was super tender and really tasty pork, complemented by a soft, fresh, white roll. They are running on a generator currently, which I found odd, until I read on GoErie that the city is no longer letting food trucks pay fees to access city electric--which is complete bullshit if you ask me (but that's an argument for another place and day). We decided to order the Rita (Margherita pizza) and Pepperoni squared (double pepperoni pizza) and a large garlic bread. We took a seat next to the bar right before the live music started. The order came out within 10 minutes. This might be some of the best pizza I've ever had I could taste the fresh ingredients, the garlic, spices cheese all of out was absolutely outstanding. Now, to get back to the sound level of the TV - part of the problem was the employees had their own music playing behind the counter. I'm an engineer, so I have a db meter on my phone. While we ate I recorded the sound level in the room. It was between 70db and peaked at 90db. I've included a screenshot of the peak sound - you can see the equivalent level on the chart. I don't think I was out of line asking to turn it down (it was louder). A little cultural background music creates a pleasant ambiance. Loud music is just annoying - I won't return.
