When we heard they reopened after the fire and were temporarily operating out of the Flagship Food Hall, we made sure to stop by with friends. Unfortunately, when we arrived during the posted business hours (both on Google and at the location), the booth was closed. We weren't the only ones -- at least seven other patrons were waiting and left disappointed as well. It was frustrating to see so many people looking forward to enjoying Enrique's, only to find it closed without notice. This kind of inconsistency feels like poor business practice, and it left us very let down. We truly hope Enrique's can improve communication with customers, because the food has always been worth the trip -- but experiences like this make it hard to recommend right now.

I ordered a brisket taco and pulled pork taco with a side of guac. The brisket taco was by far my favorite. The meat was flavorful and the additional toppings complemented it well. The waitress was kinda rude, who said "the menu doesn't always match the dish." Earlier, when I asked her what kind of meat was in Birria taco, she said "beef and pork". I've never had Birria that's a mix of beef and pork. I don't think she knows what she was saying. The manager eventually came out to apologize, which was nice. But as we were paying, the waitress came out and said "sorry about your experience but it's not my fault", which was really unnecessary. Obviously she's partially responsible if she told me in my face that "menu doesn't always match the dish".

Haven't been served yet, but I'll return to rate the food. I'm back. The food was a bit bland for Mexican food. However, it wasn't terrible, but mostly a bowl of rice with a few shrimp and grilled vegetable. At $12 or so it was reasonably priced. Now, to get back to the sound level of the TV - part of the problem was the employees had their own music playing behind the counter. I'm an engineer, so I have a db meter on my phone. While we ate I recorded the sound level in the room. It was between 70db and peaked at 90db. I've included a screenshot of the peak sound - you can see the equivalent level on the chart. I don't think I was out of line asking to turn it down (it was louder). A little cultural background music creates a pleasant ambiance. Loud music is just annoying - I won't return.

We waited so long to be asked for our order. Besides asking for our order and bringing us the food and check, the waitress didn't come back. No refills or anything. She could hardly speak English, which I truly don't blame her for, but it doesn't excuse not serving us. The price was terrible. Entirely too expensive for food that lacks quality. The chips and salsa were not good. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars and not 1 is because the food was good enough. It was not quality but I had no major problems with it. We will not be back.

Of course, that's a shame, but lets hope that the presence of Ernies leads to more people taking the time to get the permits, figure out the logistics, and take this risk. Located on weekdays during work hours at Perry Square, Ernies is a small, locally-owned food truck that offers up Erie's own Smith hot dogs, Italian sausages, hamburgers, turkey burgers, cheesesteaks, steak wraps, BLTs, pulled pork sandwiches, and more. It's a safe menu, sure, but Ernies makes every meal fresh and made-to-order. This means that it takes a little longer (my Italian sausage with onions and peppers took probably 6-7 minutes), but being so fresh and at an extremely reasonable price of $4, it was well worth the wait - especially considering the guys behind the counter were personable and more than willing to chat with me while they were cooking, as it wasn't too busy. From out of town and need to get a fresh Smith's hot dog (aka the best hot dog on the planet)? Here's your chance. As much as I love Sara's for what it is, I've never liked that their dogs sit on the burners for way too long. Here, you don't have to worry about that. Support these guys. They're local... and if they do well, who knows? We could very well see some more of these pop up downtown (how about an El Canelo taco truck, a place with Lake Erie perch fish tacos, Erie pierogies and pepperoni balls, etc.?).

We had been…read morelooking for a brewery in Erie to visit after the Erie Marathon whenever Lavery Brewing popped up on Yelp. This place is large and has both outdoor seating on the side as well as plenty of indoor seating. The inside looked like a mix of cozy and industrial, with a long wooden bar stretching the length of the room, warm pendant lights hanging overhead, colorful beer boards on the wall, and shelves lined with bottles and glassware behind the bar. It had a relaxed but lively feel to it. After looking around to figure out where we wanted to sit, we ultimately chose the bar. For lunch on this day I chose to go with the pimento smash deluxxxe while my wife went with the pesto pizza. The menu described my meal as two smash patties, bacon, American cheese, pimento cheese, and onion rings on a brioche bun while my wife's was described as parsley basil pesto, triple cheese blend, fire roasted tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. I thought that the burger here was delicious as the patties were seasoned nicely and I appreciated the onion rings. While there was plenty of cheese and it was flavorful, I almost could have used more of the pimento. Then my wife liked her pizza here especially the pesto combined with the fire roasted tomatoes. Then for drinks, as I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Lavery Brewing, a flight consists of 6 beers and I chose the Active Recovery, Seeking Clarity, Lime n Cuke, Throwing Tropical Shade, Sound Mild, and Divine Intervention for my flight. I first started with the Active Recovery which was light and hoppy and very drinkable. Up second was the Seeking Clarity which had a clean start before a heavy dose of hops in the middle which surprisingly didn't linger. Third was the Lime n Cuke which has a strong cucumber smell and the drink itself is dry like most goses with a mild lime and stronger cucumber flavor. Fourth was Throwing Tropical Shade and you could really taste the orange and other tropical flavors with a finish flavor of coconut. For me this was a really delicious beer. Up fifth was the Sound Mild which was light but you got the nice flavor of those toasted malts at the finish. Last but certainly not least was the Divine Intervention which had a strong coconut flavor on the finish. Out of the bunch my favorite ended up being the Throwing Tropical Shade. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed the beverages and the food and we left both happy and stuffed.
