Dr. Fukuda was my children's MD until we had to change doctors due to insurance. I choose her because she took over Dr. Kiyasu's practice who was my pediatrician and she was the smartest person in our class. I was very satisfied with her care for my children especially when I drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco because I was not satisfied with the care the doctors at Children's Hospital provided for my son. She was diligent in trying to resolve his illness. I will never forget her care for him at that time. I often wonder if we got extra care from her because we were classmates but its good to know that she provides the same care to others. I was not able to give her five stars because I thought one of her office staff was less than welcoming and at times, when I called regarding my children she attempted to provide care over the phone. Upon change in insurance, I tried to return but the office staff effectively dissuaded our return. This is a shame since we wanted her to resume his care. read more

Dr. Fukuda has been my daughters' primary care physician for about 4 years now and she's the most conscientious and thorough doctor I've ever met. She really cares about my daughters and gets to the bottom of any issue they have. I wish she could be my primary care physician! I can't recommend her highly enough. The office staff are also very nice and helpful. They always go the extra mile to find a time that fits in my schedule. read more

Receptionist here was exceptionally rude. I understand that you may not have any space but telling me to "take us off your list" is a horrible way to deal with people. No chance to evaluate Fukuda, but she really could use a new secretary. read more

Dr. Fukuda has been our family's pediatrician for almost 18 years. We would not trust anyone else. She is a diligent, caring, thoughtful and hardworking doctor who cares about all of her patients and their families. She has diagnosed medical and developmental issues early for us which has allowed us to be proactive and to make smart choices and has taken wonderful care of our kids (and our family) in times of need. She answers all of our questions, whether important or silly, and she will call us after hours to follow up, when we know that it has been such a long day for her, not only after having seen her patients in her office but also doing rounds at the hospital to check in on her newborn patients. My husband and I wish that she were our primary care provider! read more

Just called to schedule a new patient appointment and the receptionist was so rude and put off that she needed to do her job, that I just do not feel comfortable becoming a patient and knowing I would have to continue to deal with someone who has such a poor attitude in the course of my baby's care. It's too bad as well, as this doctor has come recommended by other physicians in the city. read more

I was referred to this doctor by my OB because she was supposed to be one of the best around. Unfortunately, I don't agree. She is extremely busy and has very little time for her patients. When she comes into the room, she is so rushed that you hardly have a chance to ask any questions or find out how your child is doing. Also, even though you have an appointment, be prepared to wait at least an hour past. The staff is not always friendly and are not very private with your child's medical history or financial issues. Don't ever forget your copay here, or everyone in the office will hear about it! I was very happy to switch my daughter over to Bay Area Pediatrics, where they always have time for my questions, always take interest in her issues, and make her feel comfortable enough to relate her feelings to them. read more

Dr. Fukuda was my doctor for a good 5 or 6 years after Dr. Tsumori retired. I love her, she is fantastic. She always took the time to chat and really was concerned with my personal well being and health. I was constantly sick and she never without fail would do everything it took to help me or have my school notes signed, forms filled out. etc. She's friendly, smart, warm, and very energetic and happy. If you want a pediatrician who will do everything they can to make you and/or your child happy and healthy, please see Dr. Fukuda at CPMC. read more

We are lucky enough to have the best pediatrician in the world in this city. She is not close but I cannot tell you how amazing she is. Here are a couple of instances: when my son was first born he had some health issues, no of them truly life-threatening, but worrisome and scary for me. Dr. Fukuda called me almost every night at around 9:00 to check in with me and to go over everything that was happening, never skipping to the end, always making me feel suppported and comforted. last fall, as a five y.o., he came down with a fever which lasted 12 days. he had no other symptoms at all. he happened to reach the apex of the fever at about day 6 which happened to fall on a holiday weekend. not only did Dr. Fukuda personally check in with me every day to see how he was doing, she made sure she contacted the doctor at the urgent-care clinic she sent us in to see while we were there. She followed up a week after to be sure he was o.k. and that I was too. yesterday my son hit his head on a shelf at school and it was bleeding rather badly. the school felt a doctor should look at it and since i hadn't actually seen the collision, i followed their advice in case there was a concussion. i called the doctor's office to see if we could come in and the receptionist explained that since there was blood, an ER visit was in order. 3 minutes later, Dr. Fukuda herself called to say she'd heard what was going on & to definitely bring him to the office so that they could help assess whether an ER visit was really necessary. I cannot tell you how reassured and backed-up I felt. She also made a point to stop in the examining room as Dr. Sullivan, the doctor whom we see routinely, was treating my son's noggin. Dr. Fukuda is the head of the practice. She is not even our routine doctor, we normally see Dr. Sullivan, but all of the doc are great. Dr. Fukuda has 3 amazing women working for her and every one of them is as competent and kind and thorough as she is but she does seem to personally oversee every case in the practice. They have called up a few days after any health issues have come up to follow up even in instances when we've not actually had to go in, but just called for advice. They have always found an appointment for us on the day of any call when I felt he needed to be seen quickly. When I've needed to speak with a doctor, they have always called back within a couple of hours. Their responsiveness, their capability, their kindness and their support have truly made a difference in our lives and in the overall well-being of my son. read more

Dr Fukuda has been my child's pediatrician for 11yrs. She is very professional, friendly, smart, and she stays on top of all the latest info for children. She is very efficient, warm, and popular. I say all that to say: she has grown so popular she is sometimes too busy to spend as much time as she did before discussing your child's care with you. But over all, she is an excellent doctor. On another note, the office staff: is something to be desired. I know when you call the doctor's office, you must speak to the staff & they relay the information to the doctor. This office staff, relays the information to the office manager, who decides if & what should be done. I know like the other yelp'er: I think the staff needs to take some customer service training classes. ********Is it too much to ask a great doctor & Office staff?****** read more

But, Dr. Fukuda does not take any new patient currently. I have tried to enroll my daughter to her one year ago but was told that her practice was too full and she would not take new patient, even newborn. Too bad. I was referred by my ob and my friend to Dr. Fukuda. There's one time I took my daughter to after-hour emergency appointment and Dr. Fukuda was on duty there that day. She's really caring and good at explaining all possibilities and reasons for my daughter's fever to us. We were glad to meet her but we wished that we would have her to be our pedi. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Fukuda enough. She has seen both my children (one currently age four, the other age five months) since they were born. Dr. Fukuda is ALWAYS there for her patients. Even if I feel like my question/concern is ridiculous, she always makes time in her busy schedule to see us. Not only that, but she is one of the few doctors I've ever met who consistently follows up with us over the weekend (or week) to check in and see how we're doing since our last appointment. Most importantly, I never feel rushed in our appointment. At times, when needed, Dr. Fukuda has given me an ample amount of time to answer any questions I might have. My children always feel comfortable and happy in her presence (not to mention that the staff at her office delivers shots and vaccines in a loving, caring matter, so that my kids don't bat an eye). A few years ago, I moved across town from where the office is currently located and still continue to see Dr. Fukuda, knowing I would probably never get as good as pediatrician as she is. I also feel like everyone who works at her office really cares about their patients: they always are supportive (and so friendly) when I call to make an appointment. I also want to point out that Dr. Fukuda takes time to explain why something is happening to your kid (allergic reaction, what causes asthma, etc) so that you, as the parent, understand what's going on and feel as informed as possible. For the past few months my son has had terrible allergies and Dr. Fukuda has been nothing but kind, patient and supportive as we get to the root of WHAT exactly he is allergic to. I cannot recommend Dr. Fukuda and her practice enough. I have written only one other Yelp review in my life, and I write this one now to stress what an amazing doctor she is, and how grateful I am to have her taking care of my kids. read more

Dr Fukuda has been our child's pediatrician for over 15 years. She is so connected with her patients and their families and truly cares. We have had a number of times where she has even called us personally after hours to discuss test results and to check in. We have never had any issues getting school forms or appointments. We recommend her and her practice very highly. read more

My sister-in-law loves Dr. Fukuda because she is dedicated, smart, energetic and speaks Japanese. Parking available on California Street. Delivering healthy babies are also her concern in working with the mother's health specifics too. HAAAAPPPYY MOTHERS' DAY!!!!! The office staff isn't helpful and is very disrespectful to the client. It is impossible to get a annual physical appointment. Make sure you book your school physicals requirements at least 6-8 months in advance. Staff brings docs rating down to a one. read more

The docs at Dr. Fukuda's are absolutely wonderful. My pediatrician was Dr. McMahan and she was absolutely wonderful! Dr. Edwards is great also! They always return phone calls and are very warm to all their clients. And most importantly, the docs really know their stuff. However, the reception staff is yet to be desired. I needed some school forms completed for my kids school and the young lady I spoke to on the phone never indicated their office policy of a minimum 5 days for the forms to be completed. Nor did she indicate that the kids needed to be seen prior to the forms being completed. So, I walk in one morning the week after and a heavy set receptionist I've never seen before informs me of the 5 day policy and told me I wouldn't have them on time for my kids to start school. So, I told her I needed the forms by that Friday and I would contact and talk to the doctor myself. Needless to say, well beyond the issue of the forms, she calls me with a complete attitude and speaks to me in a manner, as if I was some second class citizen. Regardless of the issues, this woman needs to get off her high horse and learn how treat people with respect and not speak to them as if they were second class citizens. The rest of the staff are very nice and easy to work with. Otherwise, you're getting a great set of docs and I can't seem to recommend them enough! You can't go wrong with the docs at this office. The docs are great, but the woman who sits at the reception needs training in customer service and an attitude adjustment. Luckily, I found a pediatrician closer to my new home. read more

i was in dr. fukuda's office recently and nothing has changed - 1. you couldn't ask for more in a pediatrician. dr. fukuda is warm, professional, kind and efficient. 2. the receptionist could not be more rude and unpleasant. i'm sure she has her strengths. dealing with people isn't one of them. read more

I had twin girls in 2003 and then another girl in 2006 and we love Dr. Fukuda so much that even though we've moved to Berkeley (3 years ago) we still see her twice a year! My twins were preemies and she was the first Dr. in the NICU to see them every day for a month! And she was incredibly attentive to their needs as seperate babies. Beyond that she is ahead of the game when it comes to drugs and vaccinations. She knows exactly where the vaccines come from and is prepared for the flu season. She also seems ahead of the news, when there was a recall on cough medicine, she was already warning us of that in 2003! Her office is growing and now there are two other female Doctors who are equally as attentive and great! read more

Dr. Fukuda has been our pediatrician for almost 6 years. She was referred to us just a week before my son was born at CPMC. I was ready to go with another pediatrician, but my OB/GYN (Dr. Arjomand - no longer with CPMC) said to go with Dr. Fukuda because she is excellent. And Dr. Fukuda IS excellent. She speaks Japanese (we don't, but I thought I'd just throw that in), she's accurate with everything. We took our son and daughter there due to high fevers and asthma-like breathing. She saw us that same afternoon, suggested some medications and our kids were fine within a week. Our family even moved out of state for about a year and a half and she took us back into her office and was excited to see us again. Dr Fukuda is warm & friendly with both children and parents and knows her stuff. Though she is very popular (b/c she's a great pediatrician), she gets booked for months in advance and sometimes does not take new patients. If you & your kids ever get to see her, make sure you book and keep the appointment. In addition, she also follows-up on the status of the kids & returns your phone calls, way after business hours are over to make sure everything is OK. read more

We use to be a Dr. McMahon patient, and we loved her! Now we prefer Dr. Edwards, she's more kind and gentle. Dr. Fukuda is very rough, and when she's in a bad mood you can tell and she takes it out on you. Also the front staff is very rude, unless you're one of their favorites you can hear them talk badly about everyone else. And they have a huge attitude when you ask them for and help with forms or info or anything. read more

Dr. Fukuda and her whole office are the best! She makes you feel like your child is her only patient and the most important visit of her day. She takes the time to answer all your questions and make you feel confident in your care. Also, she speaks Japanese fluently, so she has a large Japanese-speaking population. We travel from the East Bay to take our cjo;d to her -- she is totally worth the drive. read more

This review is not about Dr. Fukuda. She was my kids' pediatrician until they reached 18. She's great! Very knowledgeable, attentive, and my kids liked her. This review is about her receptionist. She was usually rude so i was glad we wouldn't have to deal with her anymore once we changed doctors. I called the office to ask about getting their medical files transferred. Was told to send a letter and a check... the new doctor's appt was 2 months away, so i thought i had given them enough time to process my request. Two months passed, i called the new doctor to double check before the appt and they said no, they haven't received the files. Called Dr. Fukuda's office and receptionist had no record of the request, and asked when i sent it. I told her my check was cashed two months ago, so she dug around and made some excuse that their office was very busy. I asked her nicely to please send the files to the new doctor per my request because there was a scheduled appt. She said ok. It wasn't for another 2 weeks before the new doctor's office received the medical files... read more

Dr. Fukuda took care of my first child. She is now 24 years old and my son who is now 16 years old. I am thankful that she took care of both my children. I think she's professional and efficient. However, in retrospect, I must say that I never developed any kind of connection with her. I always think that she's always detached. Tonight, I wrote a letter to let her know that my child has a new doctor. A big part of this decision is their office staff. One is very argumentative and disrespectful. I have read previous comments about the office staff and it seems that there's a pattern regarding their lack of good customer service. I would like to go to a doctor's office with friendly and helpful staff. My doctor's office is a good example. There's probably a race factor in there, too. Most doctors are fine, but the front desks for many doctors are not as nice. Are they stressed out? Are they racist? Are they not paid well? Or, are they just power hungry? Oh well, that's life... conditions we are exposed to... and we just need to move on. read more
