I visited once during the weekend - too busy for my liking - which has delayed my return to the Yard Bar. I did enjoy their food and drink menu as much as my pup enjoyed playing and running around. However, in the large play area, there were several aggressive dogs running together which kept chasing my dog into a corner. I kept a watchful eye on my dog as well as the bark rangers - some of which were more engaged in chatter than the well being of their fur guests. On top of some unruly pets, there was one particular dog that literally jumped onto several tables knocking over drinks. At no time did I see the bark rangers attempt to find the owner nor offer a free drink to the guests who lost their beverages. While the concept is great, in practice it's 50/50 - you don't know what you're in for. I'm certain I would have a better experience during off peak slots. read more

We took our puppy to Yard Bar last night after hearing recommendations from other dog owners. The little guy is only 11 weeks so he couldn't go into the dog park, but we still had a great time. It was nice being able to eat with our pup and let him socialize with other dogs and people. The staff is very friendly and everyone clearly loves dogs. Our food was decent although a little overpriced - my boyfriend got the yard burger which was $9 and didn't come with fries and I ordered the Hummingbird Salad with chicken which was $15 and there wasn't much chicken on the salad. We also ordered two beers on tap. Overall, it was a nice place to hang out. We will definitely go back to hang out and grab a beer, though probably not order food. read more

When this place first opened, the food was only okay. I determined it'd be a fun dog bar and nothing more. But somehow, since opening, the food has greatly improved. The fare here is simple and straightforward: what you'd expect from a counter service food place. My suggestion is to get the chicken tenders (buffalo!) and the brussels sprouts. Both are crispy, fresh, amazing. There is even a menu for your pup! My picky gal wasn't too thrilled with the options, but it was nice to get her some water and attach her to the seat while we ate. And of course, the bar and dog park itself is clearly why you go here. The Bark Rangers are on top of it and are quick to break up a tussle or pick up a poo. The sheer number of happy dogs can melt even the coldest of hearts. There's even a separate area for shy or small dogs to be away from the excitement. One of my favorite spots in Austin. I think the menu could be a little more unique, and the drinks are a little on the expensive side, but other than that it's a great place to spend an afternoon! read more

Well, their name says it all. It's just a yard with a bar. I really want to like this place but it's always been a bit of a hassle here. I've tried a few times over the years and it's always the same. I go hoping to relax, let the pup play, and share a beer with a friend but the tables aren't clean, there's always someone who isn't cleaning up after their dog and it just seems chaotic. I think I need to try when it's not as busy and give the staff an opportunity to make sure the place is clean. This might be great if you don't have a yard to just invite people over to. Fyi- even if you pay for food/drinks you still have to pay a fee for your dog to be in the park. Most dogs are friendly but don't expect them to be if their parents are irresponsible too. read more

My dog has a crazy amount of fun there. It's exactly what she needs since i don't have a yard myself. I'm happy they do not allow intact dogs there. Trained or not, shouldn't be allowed. (replying to ones bad review above). The people that hang out are awesome and are respectful. Having attendants help as well. Though I'm very aware of my pups whereabouts, I like the extra eyes so i can relax and have a drink on my day off, which i couldn't at a normal dog park. Everyone is so friendly with everyone's dogs and engages in play. My dog loves all the other dogs and all the new human friends she meets there. My wife and I have been here countless amount of times and in all have had a very good experience. Sometimes it can be a little bit of a hit and miss on the service you are getting. For example, half the time at the bar when I am getting a drink, the staff are incredibly rude and just seem like they don't want to be there, other times we have had better experience. Most of the actual rangers that are out with the dogs are pretty nice. We tend to focus on a few there when we need something since we know who the nice ones are. Drinks/Food: I haven't tried any of the food yet, so I cannot give any recommendations there, but I definitely have had a lot of beer here throughout the two years I have gone and can say they do a pretty good job of having a good selection of beer along with rotating it (not the largest selection as they have about 10 beer, but the ones they have are usually good). Ambiance: It is quite a bit crowdy and sometimes very hard for your dogs to play since they dont have a lot of room to go, but it definitely is a fun vibe with music playing, lights overhead, and it is a fun way to meet new people with something immediately in common. Came here with my dogs! Staff does enforce covid procedures with limited amount of people who come in. Social distancing is enforced. You need masks to enter, once you're sitting you can take off masks. You can reserve a table but it must be done at least 2 hours prior (which is free). There are lawn chairs if you have no reservation. Staff has masks.l and hand sanitizer is provided. Once inside, they do have dog park "guards" who make sure dogs do not fight. If it does happen, they escort dogs out. Everyone is properly Distanced and picking up after own dogs. You cannot have food inside but you can bring own drinks (or buy it here). Smart to keep the food patio and dog park sides separated though. I like the dog-friendly touches - water is easily available for dogs (or you) by the restaurant, and the metal latches attached to the tables keep your dog nearby while you eat. Ordered the Hummingbird Sandwich with the side salad. The food was tasty, but a bit on the pricier side. A downside was the crazy amount of flies, but that's not surprising since all the seating is outdoors. The people working were friendly, and explained how Yard Bar worked since it was our first time. My frustrations and why I come less and less frequently is their rule about bringing a reusable water bottle. YOU CAN'T BRING A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE. They've gotten more strict about this over the years and it drives me bonkers! It's hot in Austin - I want to stay hydrated. If a bark ranger sees you with one they ask you to not use it and/or leave it in the car. I get that they don't want ppl bringing in booze but there's a simple negotiation for this. A great locally owned business. They are always trying to improve. Management is open to hearing what I have to say. If I have every had a problem they try to address it. Many challenges in a business like this but they are working hard. I have enjoyed the various events they have held in the last year. Movie nights, SXYB and Derby days to name a few. It is a great place to meet other dog friendly people. Is it always perfect, no, but not many business are. I enjoy the effort and have a great time when I am there. Absolutely love Yard Bar! We have a monthly membership for our two pups and come almost every day. Wonderful to let the run around and play with pups. Love the bar with good drinks and even just sparkling water. What's a better combo then you, your dog and a bar?! They do have a parking lot and street parking for when the lots full. You pay $7.50 your dog but humans are free. They have a great system of going in and out in order to ensure safety for dogs as they transition off leash. Also, as you drink and/or enjoy time with others your dog(s) has lots of room to run around. Plus they have park rangers to help keep an eye out for dogs that are rough housing, humping, etc. Awesome concept!! I write this as i am currently in the park with my dog, i'm giving it two starts because although it is my first time coming to this bar/park i'm slightly frustrated that after i paid $7.50 only for my dog to play in the park (which is outrageous) just for them to tell me they need to feel up my dog before he goes in after i've already told them he's been neutered. they then proceed to say that he 'looks like he's still intact' because he has fluff where his balls are supposed to be. I told them my dog gets skittish when new people approach him and he says that then maybe he shouldn't go in the park as it'd be a problem AFTER i already paid almost $8 just so my dog can play, and honestly who wouldn't be slightly scared when there's random people trying to feel you up? Anyways, after that they ask if he's better around girls i say yes because it was a man trying to grope my dog, they let me in the park, i let him off leash and they proceed to follow my dog around for the next 10 plus minutes literally trying to feel if he has balls after i told them annoyed 10x that he was neutered as a pup. not only was it slightly rude and a bit much to assume i'm lying about my dog being neutered, maybe because he's kinda scary looking and big to some people, but he was being swarmed by workers and dogs and was really stressed when he first came in due to that problem. Next, i walk in, think to myself oh maybe i'll have a drink since it is a bar and then i turned around and sat down because it was $10 for a drink and i'm a college student so no thanks. I do give them props for having a nice park, my dog is enjoying himself and doesn't want to leave because he's made a lot of friends. the environment is really nice because of the customers and their dogs as well as it's fairly big with fans that mist water over the dogs and water bowls everywhere. I would love to come back again maybe if they don't insist on feeling up my dog. also it is quite pricey so it's another factor why i may not be back much or at all. also, i have to say my dog was probably one of the most calm but playful unproblematic dogs in the park today so the fact that they told me he shouldn't go in because he doesn't like being bombarded by new humans was harsh. if i ever come back i'll be sure to update. read more

I really like that there are employees inside the dog park with you to maintain a happy harmony of doggies playing and people enjoying the day. Dogs are dogs, so there is bound to be some territorial scuffles, however you feel so much more comfortable knowing the Yard Bar has employees placed all over to stop the shuffles and keep the calm. They seem to understand how dogs operate and how to end a potentially bad fight, but more importantly - they really love dogs. Oh, and it makes for a cleaner dog park that is regularly cleaned up, too. There's so much space for the dogs to frolic and tons of seating for humans to enjoy a beer, read a book, do some studying, and just enjoy a nice day without worrying about their dog running away. There's even fire pits to enjoy if temps drop. Though I've never had the pleasure to order from the bar, other patrons seemed to imbibing on a wide selection of cocktails and beer. The drop in rate is $5.50, which is not bad to let your dog run its energy out for an unlimited time. It's over priced, very rude staff (unnecessarily yelled at me to close the gate as I was entering) mediocre food and drinks (can't eat in the dog area). To top it off, I can't bring my baby with me into the park either. I always only have the most positive things to say about this place. The staff is so friendly and caring. They understand what being a dog parent is all about and they understand the different personalities of all dogs especially my grumpy old man and crazy young puppy! The prices are so reasonable I hope that is enough for the staff to support themselves! The are open 7 days a week!!! What this is the best news ever. We go before closing so my dogs are tired for bed, they don't kick you out and they work with you anyway they can. They all have helped me in so many ways and again can I just say how awesome the staff is. Beyond friendly you can tell they love their jobs. My boys are happy and so am I. When we first moved here in 2016 this was our number one place. Almost every weekend we were having a beer & watching our dogs play. But honestly things haven't been the same for awhile. First, they increased pricing. Which no biggie if it was worth it but my theory is if you are wanting more, give more. 6 dollars just to get your pup into a dog park seems a bit high maybe that's just me. Pools that our pup loved are no longer available even on a hot day, or at least when we are there they aren't. Literally went Friday which has led me to this review. Bark rangers seem to favorite some dogs over others, giving little to no attention to some. My dog used to be very excited when we would pull into yard bar but he doesn't even care anymore, makes me sad. Don't get me wrong we have had some great times here but for the price & service id rather go to a community or pool park for my pup. read more

I was informed after arriving (I even made a reservation for the park with no warning during the reservation) that because my dogs are neutered we weren't welcome to the park. I show my standard poodles in conformation dog shows and they have to stay intact. Being a regular anywhere leads to mishaps sometimes - as all restaurant and businesses have off days. This one was particularly bad and I really just can't shake the bad attitudes of the employees off this time. I came on a Sunday mid day (1:30pm) and had a positive experience in the park. One owner lied about his boy dog being neutered and was promptly kicked out (I mean... you can see a boy dogs balls?). I ordered the special cider cocktail and this is when it all went downhill: The cocktail was absolutely terrible. It was a mix of cider, titos and thyme and was a $5 special. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I felt like I was literally just drinking thyme and couldn't choke it back. I drink literally everyone- and this was just the worst cocktail I've ever received. No big deal I thought - I'll just go get a mimosa instead. I had taken maybe one or two sips and the drink was full, so I walked back up to the bar and ordered a mimosa and gave the full drink back to the bartender and indicated that it was not very good *politely*. We decided we were hungry and went out to the picnic table area to eat. There was 3 of us and we ordered a veggie burger, the humming bird sandwich, and the chicken fingers. After 45 minutes of waiting I checked with the waitress where our food was. She assured us it was coming and she apologized for the wait - but they had a bit of a lunch rush. I thought "ok makes sense". About 25 minutes later we were starving and fed up and hadn't seen our waitress at all, so I found another waitress and asked to cancel our order. The manager came up and handled it absolutely perfect. He informed us our order had been lost in the rush - and he offered us a gift card for the mishap which we politely accepted. 5 minutes later THE WAITRESS RETURNS and basically yells at us asking which one of us cancelled our meals. I told her all of us and she stormed off. Literally stormed off like a child. We got up and entered the park again so I could pay off the tab at the bar inside. I walked up and asked to see the bill and the bartender had not taken the disgusting drink (which I returned full) off the bill. At this point my patience is wearing thin I admit and I ask him to charge solely for the mimosas. He responds with something along the lines of "well if you order a drink there's nothing I can do about it. It's like if you order a beer and you don't like it *shrug*". At this point my patience is THIN and I responded back with "I'm sorry but I ordered a cocktail that was disgusting. I did not order a beer. I'm not sure how that is the same thing". He immediately took the special cocktail off of the bill and rudely took my payment. He didn't say another word to us- but I did thank him for taking it off the bill. TL DR: the manager did a fantastic job at handling the situation. The waitress was absent, didn't check on our food once asked, didn't discover our order had been lost, and then came back and yelled at us for making her look bad to her manager and canceling the order. The bartender gave some dumb excuse about how his horribly crafted cocktail was equivalent to me ordered a beer I didn't like. But hey - I'll at least return to use the gift cards we received and hope the staff gets better. Otherwise we might no longer be customers. read more

Awesome concept and way overdue in Austin proper IMO. They have the cutest events here, too! We know it's a fenced in park where people bring their dogs to play, right? And then on the other side of the fenced in play area is an un-fenced in food area with pretty tasty grub. (On the play side there is a very energetic big dog area complete with kiddie pool and a small dog area that is calmer.) On either side you can get great cocktails - well, most of the time. Occasionally the cocktails are inconsistent and often the lines to get a drink are way too long. Adding to irritation is seeing one or two employees casually leaning around inside kind of wiping down counters while one bartender is getting slammed by 10-20 people in line waiting for a drink. Alas - first world problems. Pretty legit place to kick back, feel the breeze, listen to the tunes, adore the pooches, and hopefully find more than one person actually bartending in the bar area! P.S. none of my inquiries about events through Facebook or email responses to Yard Bar's solicitations have ever been answered. Went to Yard Bar with my sister and my sister-in-law. It has a good size play area for the pups. They also have a small enclosed area for smaller dogs, there were no dogs in the small dog section but the main section had dogs of all sizes. Austin has received a lot of rain the last week or so so the play area was pretty muddy. The dogs didn't seem to mind. It would be nice to see mulch or some other groundcover that would help with the amount of mud. The nice thing is, they have an area for you to give your dog a bath or just hose them down before you depart. We didn't get any food or drinks, but they do have a nice area to sit and eat outside the dog play area. I love the concept and will definitely go back again. read more
